Re: Heroes from All Fifty States

Did someone mention the US Virgin Islands?

Danish settlements in the Virgin Is. date back to the late 17th century, and Denmark controlled the islands by the mid 18th century. Although Denmark sold the islands to the US in the early 20th century, there are still strong traces of Danish influence to this day. Actually, some people can trace their ancestry back to Danes.

Including this young lady, who uses (what she claims is) Old Norse magic to give her powers. Powers she uses to defend the islands and help the people living there. Here she is pictured with her "wings spell" active, her spirit companion (called "Ghost Raven") on her shoulder.

She's taken the name "Gul Ørn" though many call her "Águila Amarilla." In either case, the English is "Yellow Eagle," from the device on the USVI's flag.

Re: Heroes from All Fifty States

I actually have, in the past, used a character named Kittyhawk -- she started as a villain, who later reformed and became an NPC hero. I've even used her in my graphic novel script/story. She's actually from Scotland, though; she gets her name from the fact that, early in her mother's pregnancy, she was infused with genes from a Cooper's hawk and a panther. (For reasons unexplained other than to satisfy my own perverse sense of aesthetics, her skin is milky white, but her feathers, fur, and hair are cobalt blue.)

Re: Heroes from All Fifty States

the inspiration for the twins comes from me spending a rather wet and miserable sunday morning in both Kansas city Kansas and Kansas city Missouri whilst gray-hounding around the states after uni.

seemed like a perfect place for two twins to set up and still be in separate states(being English the whole state rivalry thing escaped me).

if it helps they are both from Kansas and flipped a Kansas quarter to decide who got to stay but they where already well regarded in both states for disaster relief (those petty rivalry go away when someone comes and helps you dig your neighbour out of the ruins of their house one would think.)

As a descendant of the Danes, I approve.

Re: Heroes from All Fifty States

We have our 50 decided, thanks again, it will be posted soon.

and then we can chat about STAGE 2 of this colossal thread.

BUT: if any one has any more submissions, or is toiling away slowly

on a mastapeace, don't hesitate to submit.

Don't think of it as a deadline, more of an undeadline,

cause it still moves at night, like Captain Albemarle.

======================================================

Not to brag, because its a definite good group effort,

but when you sort the threads in Champions by # Views,

50 Heroes USA is 15th, which is awesome for such a young thread.

Well we have a quorum on the Senate floor,

I have enough votes, and I did not vote,

but I would have broken a tie, but there was none.

Hopefully I read back through every voting post

in this thread correctly.

the Winners are:

NC: Kitty Hawk by a landslide with 7 votes,

Pirate 1, and Tarheel 2 votes.

MO: Gateway Girl wins by a hemline with 4 votes,

Turbo 3, and Bagnell CF. only 2 :(

IL: Chicago Chief 3 votes

SuperC 2, CaptainI 2

But Remember, just because your favorite "lost" this vote,

doesnt mean squat, they will live on in our hearts

and on the Historical Page! :celebrate

Heroes from All Fifty States; Stage Two

I'm going on Vacation for a week, probably can't post much then.

but your homework, for stage two of this project: this is open to anyone

Start some basic stats for these people. :hex:

Notice I did not say "entire finished character sheets"

Just some basics:

Secret Id name, if any; make it clever.

top 3 or 4 Disads, they are the most interesting part of the character sheet.

and this is for 4-Color Champions, or DC:The Animated style, not Dark Champions

top 3 or 4 Stats: are they a Dex-monster, Tough, or Presence filled

five or six skills, not just the everyman stuff, and include what they do/did for a living.

top 5 or 6 Powers: Interesting Main powers, not just armor and energy blast.

5 or 6 lines of back-story and origin.

And again, this is open to anyone, you don't have to do the

info for the art you submitted, necessarily.

plus especially, people may have interesting ideas that are sparked from

looking at the artwork on the page

this is open to anyone, submit ideas and stories.

if two people put up good theories on why Miss Wyoming

has a Buffalo based Elemental Control, we'll vote on whose the best.

Welcome to Stage Two, thanks for all the help,

and all the rep , and all the interesting input so far.

It has been, and will be a pleasure being your host.

now go listen to your muses, and please write in . . .

Re: Heroes from All Fifty States

Hmm I'm kind of tempted to give Kansas turbo a black armband for his lost brother and let him absorb his twins power. then he can have a love/hate relationship with gateway after all shes replaced over from his brother but she is pretty cute.

That could actually work. I say do it!

Re: Heroes from All Fifty States

I've already covered most of this for Evergreen:

Secret Id name' date=' if any; make it clever.[/quote']

No secret ID; she looks like she's made of wood, so how could there be one?

top 3 or 4 Disads' date=' they are the most interesting part of the character sheet.[/quote']

Subject to Orders (I'd think that's automatic with being an Official Hero), Public ID, Protects the Environment.

top 3 or 4 Stats: are they a Dex-monster' date=' Tough, or Presence filled[/quote']

STR is pretty high, DEX and SPD moderately high.

top 5 or 6 Powers: Interesting Main powers' date=' not just armor and energy blast.[/quote']

As mentioned, TK with a curious SFX, EB that looks like electricity but the effect is dissimilar.

5 or 6 lines of back-story and origin.

Done already.

And again, this is open to anyone, you don't have to do the

info for the art you submitted, necessarily.

However, I'd think it only polite to ask the person who did the art before posting one's own version of the character. :)

Re: Heroes from All Fifty States

I would assume the lovely gal from South Carolina would

have all the soldier prerequisites on an 18 or less.

PS: Soldier

KS: Military Procedures

Martial Arts: Commando Style

Tracking

Stealth

Concealment

Combat Skill Levels 3+

Weapon Familiarities

Hvy.Mil.Vehicle Familiarities

Demolitions

Mechanics

Survival

Simulate Death

and all the Everyman skills polished to a fine degree.

But I apologize, I know nothing of the fine gentleman's

plans for her background, story and disadvantages.

However, Social Lim: sbject to orders,

and Social: Public ID seem to leap off the page.

Re: Heroes from All Fifty States

Secret ID: the legendary Giant Catfish of Bagnell Dam, the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri

(The Bagnell Catfish was originally Jude Ezekiah Marlon, a Missouri soldier in the American Civil War, but it's not a name he ever uses these days. Nor will he say which side he fought for back then, blue or gray.)

4 Most Interesting Disads:

DISTINCTIVE FEATURES - Enormous scaly piscine-human blend, with a very potent fishy odor

(15) Not Concealable (the odor, at least, can't be hidden)

(5) Always Noticed, Causes Major Reaction

(-0) Detectable By Commonly Used Senses

HUNTED (in Secret ID as the Giant Catfish of Bagnell Dam)

I] Sport Fisherman and Trophy Seekers

(10) As Powerful

(0) Appear Occasionally [8-]

(0) Hunters Desire to Kill the PC for the trophy value and bragging rights

II] Tourists and Monster Hunters

(5) Less Powerful

(5) Appear Frequently [11-]

(-5) Hunters Desire to Mildly Punish PC; seek to find, trap, investigate or discover the Giant Catfish, and cause great annoyance and inconvenience to Bagnell Catfish (BC) while so doing

PSYCHOLOGICAL DISADVANTAGE: Protective of "the rivers that're this country's lifeblood, and everythin' that swims in 'em or on 'em. 'Cept for you folks."

Common, Strong (15)

SUSCEPTIBILITY: "Noodling"

(5) "Attack" Is Uncommon

(10) Damage (equivalent) [3d6]

I wasn't sure how to write up a Susceptibility where the "damage" is immobilization. Any help available out there?

When BC's dangling whiskers, scaly throat or belly are rubbed/scratched with a bare hand, he becomes "stupefied," completely passive, taking no action for as long as the "noodling" continues.

On BC's first active phase after the noodling has stopped, he's bewildered, [-2] to all Actions

On the second Active Phase after the noodling has stopped, he's groggy, [-1] to all Actions.

On the third Active Phase after the noodling has stopped, he's ENRAGED (Uncommon [5], Becomes Enraged 14- [10], Recovers 11- [5])

Top 3 Stats:

Tough (high CON), Strong (high STR) and very, very FAST...in water. (extra SPD, only in water)

Main Skills:

Navigation (U.S. lakes and rivers)

American History [11-]/Missouri History [12-] (Civil War to the Present)

American Folklore [11-]/Missouri Folklore [12-]

Swimming

PS: Soldier

SS: Hydrology

Throwing, unbalanced objects

WF: Blades

WF: Shotguns, Rifles, Muskets, Cannon

Watery MA

Interesting Powers

-Slimy fish: Damage Reduction, thick slime layer over entire body

-Bottom-feeding fish: Immunity to all terrestrial diseases (and parasites)

-Whitewater Lightning: +4" SPD (only in water deep enough to swim in)

-River Racer: Extra Swimming: +10"

-Immortality

-The Big Spit Multipower: various EBs

SFX: BC fires watery blasts from his mouth

--Torrent: regular EB

--Death Rain: EB KA

--Drown on Dry Land: EB NND

Back Story

In 1862, 19-year-old Jude Ezekiah Marlon, a Confederate soldier and faithful son of Missouri, had a fateful meeting with the Niúachi, the American Indians who would later be called the Missouria. As the result of either a blessing or a curse by the Niúachi, Jude was magically transformed into one of the Itcex'hi, the Horned Water Panthers...though despite the name, the creatures were actually nothing like panthers (except in their ferocity). Jude's new form was a monstrous blend of fish and human, strong, tough and practically immortal, with huge unblinking eyes and trailing whiskers that would eventually lead him to nickname himself "The Catfish," and later, "The Bagnell Catfish."

Basic Back-Story and Origin -

Apparently born to Wealthy Parents, the boy was raised in a boarding Orphanage,

with all his expense paid, and a trust fund that paid off when he was 18.

He was dropped off at the orphanage by an aged second cousin, but that person

died before Gary was ever old enough to talk to him. The cousin muttered something

about the child being raised by bald eagles in the Wyandotte state forest,

but this was dismissed by the nurses as crazy talk. However, the lad grew

to have an affinity with avians, so who knows.

The closest friend and mentor Gary had at the school nearby the orphanage

(IUM Childrens Home) was the science teacher, Mr. Broaderick. Gary keeps

to this day a model he built of the B58 Hustler from Grissom Air Force base,

which he built when he was seven.

At puberty his mental prowess accelerated, and he found his mental powers

and comprehension of machines growing.

He used his money to fund his way through IU Journalism school,

keeping his powers a secret. He and Doc Broaderick worked on

his super suit in secret.

Someday he hopes the truth about his parentage will be revealed,

how his mom gave him up at childbirth, the eagle story is false,

and probably that his real father was spying on the Russians in 82.

Vermont: - - - - sorry, my mind freezes up at the idea of ultra-tech combined with Vermont. I can't get past that bizarre juxtaposition.

IBM is a large employer in Vermont. that's where the gadgeteer idea sprouted from. Like I said, This hoosier boy only did Vermont cuz none others had stepped up to the plate yet.
