Moving Violation

Either via TV news, police radio, etc. your character hears of a wild police chase in progress. For the better part of 30 minutes, the suspect vehicle tore through city streets at speeds in excess of 90 MPH, sideswiped several innocent motorists, and nearly ran over a dozen pedestrians. The chase ended shortly after the car smashed through the doors of a crowded shopping mall, sending shoppers scrabbling to get out of the way as it finally crashed into the fountain. The weird part: the pursuing officers open the driver's side door to find the car has no driver! The vehicle shows no signs of being anything other than an ordinary car, and doesn't appear to have been rigged to be controlled by AI or remote control. The car was, incidently, reported stolen about a week ago. WWYCD?

Re: Moving Violation

Skadi would do a crude investigation of the car to see if there was anyting unusual about it. Unfortnately, her specialty is in biology and chemistry; if that turns up nopthing, she'd likely wait for another one to show up. When it does, she'll attempt to catch it (STR 60. She can catch a car) and see what happens.

Knight Watch would thorughly scan it for his wife (and systems expert, and builder of his battlesuit) to analyse, looking for any signs of remote control or AI systems or implanted comuters or the like. From there, he'd use what she found to track down the source of this unmanned car. Of course, if its not scientific in nature, he's lost.

Arsenal: First, check the car for an Autobot or Decepticon insignia. Assuming that came up blank (and it would), she'd want to take a really close look at the video footage of the chase to see if there was anybody trailing the car who might have been manipulating it telekinetically or cyberkinetically. She'd likely disregard the concept of the car being 'haunted'.

Bioshock: Would probably try to scratch a bit of everything and taste it to find DNA. So basicallly he would be licking the vehicule all by himself... and after a good 30 seconds he would see something shiny run after it and remember he was in the shopping center to get a burrito.

Lord Ravenscroft/The Werewolf

As a Technomancer, Ravenscroft would scan the vehicle with infra red sensors. Barring the detection of heat signatures indicating that anyone had been in the drivers seat for the last 30 minutes He would attempt to use his clairsentience to view into the past to witness the actual crash. If nothing useful was found He would return to his home before nightfall to lock himself up before the moon rose and turned him into The Werewolf.

Re: Moving Violation

Volt, Black Tiger and Leadman would just watch for more incidents and suggest Tk or invisible driver. Black Tiger would investigate owner for possible clues (Deduction roll)

Olorin would do magic investigation. If there was magic, he'd know fast. He'd be able (eventually - but could take months of spending at least half his time researching - very limited retrocognition) find out exactly what happened. In effect, unless it happened a lot he'd find out fast or not at all.

Futurian - "Whooa! Fragic!" Then either "You want the techo babble or should I just say it's technology? " if it is some sort of tech trick (remote control, high tech car, etc.) Otherwise..."I have no clue. I'm a tech expert, not magic or super power expert."

Soulbarb: Tech really isn't her subject of expertise. If there's magic involved, she'll be able to determine that in short order; otherwise it's time see if any of her contacts knows anything that mould make for a lead to investigate, and to do some research to see if she can find anything on the net or in the news about it that seems worth following up on.

Sylph: Check with UNTIL, since they often get called in on paranormal threats in the city, and once they've had a chance to look into the matter, offer a hand with following up on it. She's not much of an investigator, and tech is not her specialty either. Alternatively, she could commune with the plants of the city and try to pick up on any impressions they might have regarding this, but that's something of a crapshoot.

I think I saw this scene in the original TERMINATOR. (Cops catch up to Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese, and open the door of the cop car which had been chasing them--to find no driver.)

Iron Maiden, Black Knight, Black Mask, Hell's Angel and pretty much all my other characters don't do much about it. They can't be everywhere, and they know it. The police handled this and nobody was killed. If any of my PCs stumble across a similar situation, they'll try to intervene, but othewise, they're not going to worry overmuch about this.

Badger: Would have gone and incapacatated the car. Let the police deal with it.

Frosty Bob: Be glad, he snuck out of the car after the crash at the mall. What a Friday night! Ok, I kid. He too would have gone and stopped it by shooting out the tires.......and the windshield......and the..........

Re: Moving Violation

30 minutes? That would give both my usual characters time to get involved. Zero might not be able to stop the car with his TK - it's not strong enough yet - but he could certainly tell is any mentalist powers were in use or if their actually was anybody on board.

Vitus would just disintegrate half the car. True, this would leave the hypothetical driver tumbling down the street at 100kph along with the twisted remains of any non-metal elements, the contents of the petrol tank, engine oil, and the scaldingly hot contents of the radiator, but people are always saying Vitus needs to smile more

Re: Moving Violation

Bolo: Being a teleporter, would investigate the possibility that the driver teleported out of the vehicle (maybe to the shopping center's roof) just before the car crashed into the building. Assuming that the person would retain existing velocity unless the teleport compensated, begin investigating known teleporters who can cancel relative velocity. Or else someone like him with gliding ability, to safely bleed off the velocity after teleporting. Or look for a bloody splat on the A/C unit on the shopping center's roof, indicating the driver was a doofus who didn't think the situation through.

My first inclination was invisibility, but this would require the driver to be okay from the crash. Were airbags deployed? If so, is there evidence that someone was in the driver's seat (perhaps the bag pushed out of the way when the driver got out)? If no airbags, any damage to the steering wheel (indicating someone was in the seat and smashed into it)?
