Kara Loft: Lost In The Sands Of Egypt

Kara Loft, self-styled "Tomb Explorer" (and shameless Lara Croft rip-off), is missing after traveling to Egypt in search of yet another lost tomb. Somehow, your character got roped into going to Egypt to take part in the search for Kara, and while out in the desert came across her Jeep, partially buried by a sand storm. A search of the immediate area uncovers a heavy stone door and beyond it, stairs leading down into a secret underground tomb (very likely the one Ms. Loft was looking for when she went missing). Sure enough, there are footprints going down into tomb which match the type of boots Kara usually wears. The tomb seems to consist of a single chamber with only one sarcophagus in the center of the room. Looking around, your character notices two other things about this chamber: 1) Paintings and hieroglyphs on the walls, which seem to have been recently painted no less, appear to tell the story of Kara Loft's life right up until the moment she came down into this chamber. 2) Kara's boots, gun belt, and clothes are in a pile in a corner of the room.

 

WWYCD?

 

 

For those of you who haven't already put two and two together, Kara Loft is in the sarcophagus, wrapped up like a mummy. She's still very much alive, but magical charms woven into her wrappings are maintaining her in a state of "Eternal Slumber". It appears whoever it was that did this to her is already long gone, though.

Anyway, if this was Justice, Inc., The Indian Rubber Kid With No Name would be going through the paintings looking for blackmail material. My other characters would likely do the standard rescue, though Diabolus would probably put on her clothes and gear first.

Well, I couldn't figure out how to get the uzis the same price as the ones in the book, and I'm very unfamiliar with things, but here is my character. I don't even know if I got the formatting correct.

 

Ms. Loft would be just getting out of the sarcophagus when the heroes arrive, figure they are tied to the villains who did this and a Misunderstanding would ensue! Then a team-up adventure!

Pretty Much All My Characters: Get the lid off that sarcophagus, unwrap her enough that she can get up and move around on her own, and hand her her stuff. Then do the gentlemanly thing and turn around while she gets the rest to the bandages off and gets dressed.

 

Hardware: Since the OP says we only see Kara's footprints going down the stairs, he gets out one of his sensor devices and checks the walls for hidden doors and checks the room for energy signatures consistent with the most common forms of Teleportation.

 

Tiger Shark: When you've been mutated into a man-shark creature, going out into the middle of a desert isn't such a great idea, so it's unlikely he'd be present for this one.

Well, I couldn't figure out how to get the uzis the same price as the ones in the book, and I'm very unfamiliar with things, but here is my character. I don't even know if I got the formatting correct.

 

Ms. Loft would be just getting out of the sarcophagus when the heroes arrive, figure they are tied to the villains who did this and a Misunderstanding would ensue! Then a team-up adventure!

Definitely an interesting writeup here, but there is one thing that seems off to me, and that's her

choice of hardware. Lara Croft-type characters strike me as being more inclined to use handguns

rather than full-bore submachine guns; in this day and age, making use of such a weapon -- when

most people don't really have the need to -- runs the risk of its owner being tagged as a potential

terrorist.

 

On top of that, there's the fact that the Uzi itself is a fairly hefty piece of metal, weighing in at just

over 8 pounds (about the same weight as a high-school shotput ball); that's an awful lot of weight

to be lugging around for any length of time, much less two of them. If you want to have Kara use

a pair of Uzis, then might I suggest that you switch out the full-bore Uzis for a pair of Micro-Uzis

instead? Not only do they do the same amount of damage, but at 4.28 pounds each, the two SMGs

together only weigh a little bit more than their parent design. Going with the smaller size SMGs

would also let her carry some extra magazines (a good idea in any event, since the Micro-Uzi only

has a 15-round capacity).

 

If you were to have her use handguns like Lara Croft, however, you could always have her use paired

Desert Eagle autopistols in either .357 Magnum caliber (3.9 lbs., 9-round magazine, and 1 1/2d6 dam-

age per shot), or .44 Magnum caliber (4.28 lbs., 8-round magazine, and 2d6 damage per shot); these

weapons are pretty much what the picture you included with the writeup shows the heroine using.

 

These are just suggestions, though; I just wanted to toss in my slightly more than 2 cents into this

discussion.

Personally, I would give Lara, um sorry Kara, an 18 INT. She is very smart and thinks fast which is what Hero INT really measures. Also, since you bought up all of her INT based skills, it would save points. You could use those saved points to buy up her Presence. Lara, um Kara, has a high presence judging by her ability to face the most fearsome of opponents and make jokes.

Thanks for posting this list; when I made my post, I was going by the movies (and what few TR

gameplay clips that I've seen on YouTube), as I've never played any of the games myself.

Given that Vitus is currently in Egypt, and has been poking around various tombs, this is almost plausible. Of course, since he's doing so in the Call of Cthulhu universe, the moment he discovers the murals, and the vanished tomb-robber, alarm bells will start ringing. He might even suspect a few White Apes of Truth to be involved. Either way, the sarcophagus is probably going to get nuked.
