Pattern Ghost Posted May 28 Report Posted May 28 I think since Texas doesn't want to follow federal laws, they should perhaps be de-funded federally. Just yoink all of their Federal money and see how long their nonsense lasts. Quote

Just yoink all of their Federal money and see how long their nonsense lasts. Can't do that...simply, anyway. Not if that would include Social Security. But you could move every military base out of Texas. Cuz that also strikes to the heart of the Texas ego. And we're talking 160,000 jobs, and the office of the Texas governor gives an economic impact of $100B. Quote

It's mostly wishful thinking, I know. I wasn't thinking of social security, just all the copious federal subsidy money every state gets: schools, roads, infrastructure, etc. Edited May 29 by Pattern Ghost Quote

But as a matter of strategy, one has to make one's threats credible. Schools would be almost as bad as social security; they'd set up state schools with state-dictated curricula, and establish limited admissions criteria. Kids of registered Democrats? Need not bother. Pattern Ghost Posted May 29 Report Posted May 29 The main point is that money is the only thing the federal government has to bring them to heel. Ignoring Supreme Court judgments, federal laws, and the constitution all needs to stop. They're part of the country, whether they like it or not. Quote

One thing they care very much about, though, is operational readiness. If female servicepeople or families of servicepeople posted in a particular state can't get access to adequate health care, that affects their readiness. For over a year military spokespersons have been dropping hints that the restrictive laws in some states will affect decisions on which facilities they'll expand, transfer, or close. It's also worth noting that many bases are in rural areas, and servicing them is usually that area's main employment. Quote
Lord Liaden Posted May 29 Report Posted May 29 (edited) Nikki Haley writes ‘finish them’ on IDF artillery shells during Israel visit The image below will resonate across the Middle East for years to come. P.S. I read ex-military asserting that the markings on the shells next to the ones Haley signed identify them as white phosphorus. Edited May 29 by Lord Liaden Dr. MID-Nite 1 Quote
Pattern Ghost Posted May 29 Report Posted May 29 (edited) They're marked M795, so likely these (high explosive): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M795_projectile Edit: Can we get a facepalm emoji added to the reaction emojis? Edited May 29 by Pattern Ghost Quote
Lord Liaden Posted May 29 Report Posted May 29 (edited) Yes, the one Haley signed was one of the HE shells it was stacked with. The white phosphorus shells are the greenish-white ones with the yellow and purple bands, next to the HE rounds. That's what I was referring to, my apologies for not being clearer.
