Are those like salted caramels, but crunchier?

“You are NOT of the body!”  “Landru, save us!”   The salt vampire was the hideous monster that could put an illusion of someone else into its victims mind from the first season of Star Trek “Man Trap”.

The salt vampire freaked me out as a kid. I was convinced that Star Trek was a horror show after that.

That first season of TOS had other pretty frightening things: Ruk the giant android, the Horta, Balok (at least his "Hyde" form). Charlie X was the one that freaked me out the most. For years I couldn't watch that episode again.

?? I don't remember anything like that device shown in the panel labeled 1973 actually in 1973.  That was end of junior year/start of senior year of high school.

Flip phones came around in 1996, with the Motorola StarTAC. The first demonstration of cellular technology was in 1973 by Motorola, but it wasn't really rolled out until almost a decade later, with these phones:

If those girls had gone through that stuff today, can you imagine their therapy bills?

There was a book about that.  A halfway house for teenage girls who were screwed up by spending time in supernatural realms.  Can't remember the title.

What the hell, lady.  I know you're playing chest, not chess but...

Likewise. Just thinking what must have been in her mind is horrifying. And with no mouth or nose, was she suffocating? :angst:

The Horta?  Really?  That was just about the coolest concept that entire season.  Loved that episode.

As do I. But loving something and being frightened by it aren't mutually exclusive. The whole horror genre of entertainment is built on that premise.

Ah yes, I remember those. You could use them to drive nails in a pinch.
