  1. Re: Rail gun damage? Thai, have you tried using the alternate/optional rules that let you add the Size of the vehicle to the body damage done but the attack to simulate larger class weapons on the bigger vehicles? Also, 3d6 seems a bit low for a vehicle weapon unless the above rule is used. a .50 sniper rifle from Dark Champions does 3d6. (I happen to agree with Thai on this as well. I don't think Hero damage scales well). This also depends, as has been discussed, on where you're Defenses are.
  2. Re: Entangle I believe it's additional str/ego so you'd be getting the latter.
  3. Re: Entangle Actually, I believe the Ultimate Mentalist stats that if you're the unlucky schlep caught in a Mental Entangle, and you happen to be lucky enough to have Mdef. you can use it as STR/EGO to break out of the Entangle. PS: Thanks Thai . . Love you too.
  4. Re: Entangle You can't Haymaker a Martial Art's Maneuver. (Which really depressed me at one point in time. Was looking forward to laying a whole lot of smack down on the bad guy).
  5. Re: Walking the fire The problem with doing it that away is that, like in our current game, the players with insanely high OCV's compared to the insanely low DVC's of the opponents result in "walking the fire" to head locations 99.0% of the time. I mean, how often have you said Ty has like an 18- to hit his target? and then you roll like a 5. You could walk the fire from a Loc hit of 18 all the way to the center of the face (Loc 4).
  6. Re: What rule don't people know? When I first started playing I didn't realize that when the Maneuvers section said "STR Damage" it meant divide your STR by 5 and roll the result in dice. So I ended up doing a 64 dice move through on an area where I thought a character was standing. Dang near killed my self.
  7. Re: Vehicles, halving already negative DCVs? What we do is use relative size when comparing vehicles and using them in battles. If, for example, you have a Viper and a Raider dog-fighting, since they're nearly the same size they don't suffer the DCV modifiers for size. That gets us around having to have gobs and gobs of Skill Levels and outrageous levels of Dexes for both the Fighters and the Pilots.
  8. Re: First-aid kit, physicians bag You're probably finding an annoying lack of write-ups because they're not really needed. As stated before, most of what you want to do can be done with just +'s to skills and/or using the modifiers in the Ultimate Skill for proper equipment and such. Another thing is that in Hero most "mundane" stuff doesn't get written up. It's just assumed to function the way it's suppose to and that's that. About the only time someone takes the time to write something up is when it's no longer mundane and is now "special".
  9. Re: resist being stunned by EGO attack with EGO not CON? Don't know if this has been pointed out but about the only thing you'd do with this rule is make Mentalists unStunnable while pretty much pasting just about everyone else.
  10. Re: Rules to ignore, or replace Actually, I think they mean it's easier to knock out a Superheroic character then it is to Stun one. In our Avant Garde super-hero game, the PC's were knocked out 9/10 before they were stunned. And the hardly ever took body. In our GateCrasher/Dragonstar Heroic level games, our characters get Stunned almost as much as they get knocked out. When thinking about Stunning/Killing, I believe it's all in the Genre type that the players/GM are playing in. PS: Sorry for the thread derail.
  11. Re: Dragonstar Campaign Suggestions ?
  12. I was reading over your response to the other thread of the same name and had to confirm something. If my character has 5 Body Regeneration and then takes starvation damage, you're saying my Regeneration wouldn't heal the Body taken?
  13. Re: Surviving fall from orbit Oh . . good point there Bloodstone. I forgot all about that.
  14. Re: Surviving fall from orbit It's normal or killing damage depending on surface that you land on. I would make it Killing damage, no matter what surface you fell on if you're talking about falling from orbit. Adding to what Edsel said, I'd also have to find a decent amount of damage for the heat/fire that you would encounter on reentry. I'd have to assume that you would be at the most ill favored reentry angle since you are, for the most part, falling. So off the top of my head, I'd give you a 30D6 KA upon impact with the ground. While suffering reentry I'd say maybe another 10D6 AP/Penetrating, Continuous attack (can't find damage levels for the sun at the moment) for as long as you were suffering the heat of Reentry. So you'd need pretty uber defenses to survive something like that.
  15. Re: Looking for House rule suggestion Honestly, we only really keep track of End in our Gatecrasher and Dragonstar games when it concerns special abilities like Magic or other things. For things like Running and using Str (unless it's a herculean effort or some such thing like that) we just don't bother. Oh and Pushing of course . . Thanks Edsel.
  16. Re: Communicator Two ways: HRRP with the Concealed Adder so that it's hard to detect the signal. RPT (Radio Perception/Transmission) with the Concealed Adder. Basically, both sets use the worlds satellites for the signals so they'd be able to reach anywhere on the planet. That's how I'd do it . . . but the neat thing about Hero is you can do one thing many different ways and they're all right. And Rapier . . why do you want to stat out all the "normal" stuff anyway? I've never run into a GM that has made me by normal equipment for points. If I want a cell phone, I have a cell phone. If I need a flashlight, I go to the local circle K and buy one. And why do you think that Resource Points have no business in any other Genre? RP's are perfect for ANY heroic level type game. OF course, this is my opinion so take it as such.
  17. Re: Dumbest thing... And just why is this lame? Is it because they didn't stick with the original "barely non-psycho" part or that they later developed him into a samurai trained super spy? Honestly folks I'm getting sick of people bashing on Wolvie just because he happens to be a popular character. Yes, they've some done some REALLY dumb things with him (his "Origin" specifically is the one that I don't like) but that can be said for just about every comic book character out there. Question for ya Liaden, are you upset about the whole "Lobo vs Wolvie" thing because Wolvie won of because they didn't actually show the fight? Ok, enough ranting about Wolvie . . . sorry guys. My personal fav is the Punisher that is now "The soldier of God with access to God's arsenal". (Oh and he can't kill people either)
  18. Re: Terran Empire Starships: Game Play Ya know beast, I didn't think of that. The high Def/Shield ratings on those ships would lead to the "Everyone concentrate fire on that super stardestroyer" type scenarios. However it does make fighters pretty much useless against the capital ships because there wouldn't be any way for them to punch through the defenses. Unless, again, you have one or two other capital ships take down on of the shields and then the fighters dart in and lay about with the carpet bombing.
  19. Re: Terran Empire Starships: Game Play I haven't every used any of the Star Hero ships. I looked at the amount of damage the weapons can do compared to the defenses and pretty much figured that only a maximum damage hit even had a hope to penetrate the defenses and score some damage. Now, the defenses of the ships, if I remember correctly, are layered so sometimes you might get the full defensive value and sometimes you might not. But still, like was pointed out, it would be a long drawn out affair that would be boring as heck. The fighters are just as bad as the capital class starships. However, I did come across an optional rule that *might* tip the scales a bit. You have the option of comparing the Size values and using that as extra body added to the damage roll. So if you have a fighter that is size 4 against a Cap ship size 14, when the cap ship hits the fighter you can add 10 Body to whatever you roll. That works well for Cap ship vs fighter but Cap ship vs Cap ship is still going to be just pounding away on each others shields. The space combats I have done have been with custom made craft who's defenses and armament ratings are no where close to what the TE/AW ships are. Hopefully there was a point to all that . . if not thanks for at least reading through it.
  20. This came up in a conversation the other day and I thought I'd go directly to the source for the answer. If you have a multipower with say a 60 point pool in it and then you have 2 ultra slots that are 30 pnts, could you use both slots at the same time? One of my friends says that no, you can't because they're ultra slots so they take up all the points in the multipower. The other friend says you can because each slots, regardless of what power level you use the individual powers at, only take 30 points. Both the above friends have been playing since Champs 1 so I don't know if this is an individual interpretation of the rules or if something changed during the various editions until we evolved with what we have now. Friend #1 also mentioned something about your multipower only able to have a pool equal to the biggest AP Slot power. Hopefully that makes some sense. Thanks for your time Steve
