  1. Thanks I'm just surprised with all the buzz and hoopla about podcasts, just how little there is out there. I just tried listening to a podcast put out by a gaming company, and no kidding. After an initial couple minutes of disjointed babble they started discussing cauliflower recipes. WTF? Anyway, I'm still looking for a game related podcast and I appreciate the response.
  2. You could approach the saves by intent. Damage saves are intended to make the PC tougher vs certain attacks or attackers. Instead of a "roll", give the PC a def limited to the attack. D&D does situational defense with a SR. Hero does it with limited defenses. Save vs Petrification = Def vs Transform. Save vs Fire = Def vs Fire or Dam Reduction vs Fire. And so on.
  3. Excellent series, I bought all the dvds when they came out. It did begin to go downhill in the later seasons. I am still surprised at 10 seasons. It's been a while since I watched them. Time to revisit.
  4. The Suicide Squad is the next one right? The existing SS movies set such low standards they skipped using a bar. Unless TSS is astronomically better than previous versions, tying Peacemaker to the same team doesn't actually inspire confidence.
  5. So, the other day I saw Darren Watts post about his podcast Explain This Comics Guys. Up till this point every podcast I ever tried have been horrifically bad. If they managed to touch on anything actually interesting, usually by accident, it is usually quickly buried under pathetic attempts at humor. But ETCG was a pleasant surprise. It covered an actual topic with the information delivered in a concise and intelligent manner. Any commentary actuality applied and reinforced the presentation. So here I am. This is posted in the General Roleplaying forum because that is what I'm looking for. A good informative podcast about the various RPG systems or settings out there. With a major emphasis on non-D&D (or effectively D&D clones like Pathfinder, 13th Age, etc.). I have wasted a lot of time trying to "search" various podcast sources, if they use subjects no one appears to validate them. It appears there is no interest in connecting with interested listeners. So my question is this. Does anyone know of a podcast out there that intelligently discusses various RPGs? Rules, settings, genres? Compares various systems based on actually having played it or at least having read the book. Tips on GMing and so on. All presented in a concise and prepared manner minus idiotic unfunny in jokes. I have discovered that a podcast can actually be worth listening and can really make my commute pleasent. I have also discovered that I am apparently incapable of actually locating additional ones. Any assistance would be fantastic. Thank you in advance..
  6. But I want to see the suit automatically deploy the step stool every time there is a shot with Cruise and woman in the same pic.
  7. Incorrect interpretation on both assumptions. First there was no assumption of infinite free energy. The Federation was extremely efficient with energy, but repeated episodes revolved around the need to acquire or protect energy resources. One example is the pergium in "Devil in the Dark". There are others involving Dilithuim which was rare can could not be replicated. The second assumption of an infinite source of free goods. You could replicate things as long as you had the requisite raw materials. This came up several times in Voyager and I remember the grumbling of having to eat "ration packs" because the replicator material packs were exhausted. For a civilization having infinite free energy and infinite free goods, Starfleet spent an awful lot of time and energy responding to emergency needs for critical materials on Federation planets, colonies and outposts. No, Starfleet ships, stations and outposts enjoy a highly localized apparent infinite free energy and goods due to their design and mission. Starfleet warfare relies extensively on energy based weapons and defense systems. Having the power generation systems to meet the insanely high requirements means the availability of "effectively infinite" for normal day to day uses. Starfleet ships are also the first responding search & rescue plus the major actors for disaster relief all in one package. Their resources and material stores are always stocked. But the Federation as a whole? Their various worlds/outposts constantly need assistance and relief. Not to mention the not inconsiderable number of independent traders and freighters operating in the Federation. In DS9 Sisco's romantic interest was a freighter captain that was emphatically "not Starfleet" who worried about meeting schedules and delivering cargoes. Ignoring the idea of freighters and cargoes for a civilization that can simply replicate anything, no one would run cargo in a war-zone without pressing needs, like a paycheck to keep the freighter operating and crew paid. Roddenberry vision may have been a money-less universe of plenty. But the actual one that appears on screen is not that. Starfleet may be that, but the Federation is not.
  8. OK, seriously how did you pull this off? Are you "converting" 5e characters?
  9. Some might say too much. I remember playing it when it was new. I still think FASA going with Battletech instead of Centurion was a mistake. But we lost interest when the game shifted and added the clans. But back to BT. I was never able to get back into it because of the way the material is organized (or not organized).
  10. So, I never was able to like podcasts because every single one I tried was a disjointed, rambling unplanned mess. The host/speakers too fond of their own voices and telling unexplained in jokes and other garbage to a degree that they were torture rather than entertaining or informative. I noticed this thread a few days ago and when I didn't have a book to listen to on my commute I decided to give it a try. You may have single-handedly brought podcasts into my view as something useful and enjoyable. There are only two episodes left and I will have listened to them all. Only Captains Marvel and Siegel and Shuster remain. As for the content. I really appreciate the way it was presented and how well it flowed. Thank you very much for an outstanding series.
  11. I voted the third option, but I would lean toward a setting that happens after WW3. Earth has slowly climbed away from extinction on a ravaged planet. The population will no longer tolerate even the appearance of large government bodies so currently Earth is a very loose confederation of small independent villages, towns and small cities. Both on earth as well as in the rest of the system. 500 years before now on one of the early post war expeditions to the moon in an attempt to recover technology from one of the old lunar bases, they instead discovered a crashed alien vessel. The technology gleaned from that ship was directly responsible for the survival of humanity and there ability to establish outposts and colonies off planet. Even now the majority of humanity and the food production is not on Earth. The use of everything from Frames to Mecha has become common. But there is no large standing military since that would establish a larger centralized government to control it. Instead each local maintains its own security force of varying effectiveness. Most are some form of law enforcement, Sheriffs, Marshals and Police are the most common. Overall laws and regulations that affect the entire solar system are loosely enacted by the Grand Conclave which meets once every 10 years and includes voting representatives from every polity that has over 10000 inhabitants. With smaller outposts designating one representative per combined 10000. The number was established when there were few locals that came near to 10k. While the larger colonies have argued and tried to raise that number or allow larger colonies to have more than one vote, they can't muster enough support to pass the change. The only two organizations that are independent and have jurisdiction throughout the solar system are the Support and Rescue Service and the Solar Marshall Service. While they do have jurisdiction, their influence is muted by their numbers being spread out across the system. Overall, mankind has become very independent and self-reliant with an innate distrust of anything "big government". In this environment a few small prospectors operating on the outer edge of the solar system have failed to check in. And more concerning, the S&R ship dispatched to investigate has gone dark.
  12. In this case, she doesn't need a costume. Just activating her powers will activate a "costume".
  13. Too bad. The new storylines are meh at best. And..There's a new Netflix Hawkeye show??? I thought Disney had pulled back all their titles in house.
  14. I wouldn't say backwards, rather approaching from the traditional everything is pre-built RPG direction. Traditional RPGs try to be pre-balanced and present the players with all the choices canned and ready to use. Since your options to build a PC are pre-defined, most people flip through the rulebook selecting "cool options" and then tack on as many as they can using them to "define" the character. HERO is different. I always advise new players to write up their character concept and abilities in plain language. Don't look at the book during this process. Once the character concept is established you can begin building. The thing is there are so many different ways to build things focusing in on the "name" of the power can actually be wrong. I never pick up the rulebook until I have a solid concept. Also, try to look at the characters powers collectively, not individually. That will also impact how you construct things. A final thought. HERO has few in stone rules. Read the toolkit paragraphs. It is like the killing attack multiple. I haven't gamed with anyone that uses the 1d3 multiple. it is great for accountants that like everything tidy and boring.
  15. Thanks, but I'm not ready for another pay-stream site. I'll have to wait until I can find it either on media or one one of the sites I am already a member. There is a ton of Rugby. I just deleted over 40 matches because my DVR was overwhelmed. Two Australian Leagues (Super League and Premiership) plus the UK league. They were playing before soccer restarted.
  16. Aarrggghhhh.....the one place I cannot go.
  17. Small thinking. It is the spirit world and there are such things as spirit guides and such. A spirit guide in the form of a great panther with just enough CGI to add a fleeting glimpse of the human face of T'challa, and you're good. After all, this is Shuri's new path, not the old one. I have enough faith in Marvel Studios to believe they can do something in a tasteful manner.
  18. And it was an excellent wiki.
