  1. Re: Just to prove I'm not a complete Comeliness Grognard I apologize if I came off as belittling your feelings. That was certainly not my intent. 'Fear of change' was not meant to dismiss or invalidate how you feel. Change is a very real and very powerful motivator. I also think that people that post here are invested in this game, otherwise, they would not bother to post here. Just as strongly as you feel that COM is a defining part of the Hero System, I am sure there is at least one other person, who, just as strongly feels it is not. Since there is still a mechanic within the game to represent how attractive a character can be, my own concerns are lessoned. In all of the games I have played in, I have been the only one to bother to put points into Comeliness. Now, when I use to play G.U.R.P.S. with a different group, there was another player that would pay to be Very Handsome. So I can see valid reasons for it to be relegated to an optional talent. Obviously, Comeliness plays a very vibrant role in your games. I can not deny that. However, it seems it does not play such an important role in Steve's game. This should, in no way, infer that Steve is saying or even thinking you are doing it wrong. This should also not be viewed as a snap decision or just change for change's sake.
  2. Role Playing Tips When was the last time I pimped Role Playing Tips? 4 Tips On Encouraging Roleplay 6 Ideas To Encourage Roleplaying Use "In-Character" Feedback To Encourage Roleplaying
  3. Re: Warehouse Plans Will the The Ultimate Base cover warehouses?
  4. Re: Just to prove I'm not a complete Comeliness Grognard Resistance to change is human nature. Everyone has things they love about Hero and things they dislike. Any one person's preferences is never going to align perfectly with everyone else's. Why do you think pretty much every role playing game out there is house ruled by someone?
  5. Good night, sweet Comeliness I will miss Comeliness, but I understand. Incidentally, Comeliness was one of the things that finally brought me over to Hero from G.U.R.P.S. I was tired of only being Very Handsome.
  6. World Works I believe World Works has a warehouse paper model. Their site is blocked here at work, so I can not verify. edit: Mayhem Industrial
  7. Re: Hero System Good Idea/Bad Idea... Depends. How much BODY wood do you need and how much END do sheep cost?
  8. Leaving Hero?! I have started running Mutants & Masterminds. With the material from Agents of Freedom and Warriors and Warlocks, I think M&M handles the types of games I want to run. It is not as flexible as Hero but it also does not have the learning curve and is faster to stat up opponents. So I am kind of on the fence about leaving the Hero fold.
  9. Gimmie KillPoints! At the risk of loosing my Hero Card, I am still not sold on 6th. I think someone stole my killpoints.
  10. Re: Western Hero (Price of goods and hit location) I am not a big fan of Hit Locations because finishing blows to the big toe always kind of ruined my immersion. Have you reviewed the Special Hit Locations? A Body shot is only a -1 with the average hitting the chest. You could even do away with the -1 penalty and assume this is everyone aiming at center mass.
  11. High Speed Low Drag I have not heard the thread title phrase in years. Thanks for the memories.
  12. Short attention span I will loose interest and wander off by then.
  13. Re: Would you allow the white knight defense? Mind Control followed by "Attack your team mates" ... I'm sorry, what was the question again?
  14. Munchkin, I Really? I love Overall Skill Levels.
  15. Re: How to encourage RP? Browbeating them is full of fail. It will only piss them off and frustrate you. If they do not want to role play, they are not going to. +1 As Wolflaughing suggests, Look over their Disadvantages. These are the hooks the players want to see come into play. Of course, this assumes they took some Disadvantages. If the characters sprung, fully formed from beneath a rock without friends, family or any semblance of background, feel free to make one up. Uncle Joe Bob shows up because he lost his job and he figured Super Guy is…well…super, surely he could put him up for a night or two. Players want their characters to be awesome. Use this to get them involved. When Mary Sue goes up to Smart Girl and tells her how smart her plan was to take out Dr. Evil and can she have Smart Girl's autograph, the player is likely to get engaged. Also, if Dr. Evil starts telling Smart Girl how non-smart she is, the player is likely to develop a real hate-on for Dr. Evil.

  20. Re: Kill the Dude with the Thing The Thing was given to me by His Noodly Goodness. Only a pirate can kill me and take it. Ramen.
  21. Re: Stealth and Perception If you decide to just have one roll and the players complain, ask them how they will feel next time they try to sneak past the barracks.
  22. Re: Kill the Dude with the Thing *raising hand* What if…say…for argument’s sake…you were buddist…and believed all Dudes (self included) were part of the Thing?
  23. Re: Problem Player (?) …or at least grateful that his own GM does not beat him with a stick.
  24. Re: "Outsider" perspective on Hero System I believe this argument to be academic. The original point was that Hero can not model everything, correct? Obviously this is debatable. No system can model everything perfectly subjected to enough scrutiny. I believe what this really comes down to is that Hero failed to meet an individual’s expectations which were largely set by previous experiences. Trying to prove that Hero is The System Which Shall Not Be Named is futile. You are debating opinion.
  25. Re: Problem Player (?) I think you need to take your friend aside and have a chat with him. Ask him how you and the others might feel if he constantly interrupts the game to argue rules. You are all there to have fun and you certainly want to hear his concerns but disrupting the game constantly will only add to your frustration until you end the campaign. It is in his own best interest to work with you here, unless of course he really wants to kill the campaign. If that is the case, you have an entirely different issue to deal with. I have yet to figure out the best way to demonstrate to powergamers/munchkins/min-maxers/whatever you want to call them that while they may enjoy 'outsmarting' the GM and/or everyone else at the table, it is to the determent of the game. They may think they are being clever, but how clever will they be when no one wants to game with them anymore? I believe it falls on the GM to give everyone an opportunity to shine. I further believe it falls to all of the players not to step in anyone else's limelight. That means that each character should have a niche or niches in which they excel and other areas where they do not. I also think combat makes for a very poor niche. Also, characters without weaknesses are two dimensional. Why do you think no one wants to read about someone else's Mary Sue?
