  1. Wow. Talk about throwing money at the problem. Seriously, I know a lot of people hate this being brought up; but this sounds a lot like the Glitter Boy Boom Gun from Rifts. If the government is working on such a device, or soomething similar, wouldn't it be more akin to a gauss needler? Something firing ultra high velocity needles that wouldn't flatten out as fast? Come to think of it, the govt already has caseless ammunition automatic rifles. Adding needles to the repetoire of bullet types would end up giving you a gauss gun, would it not? If my concept of the physics is wrong, pleez excuse my ignorance.
  2. Personally, I think L'exploit Rouge works the best. As a superhero, he'll be performing incerdible feats, the morality of which will often be tainted by the blood of his enemies. The pun still works, but you really have to look at the deeper meaning (as most Americans have oft complained about French films)
  3. I was always under the impression that the Zentraedi (is that what they were really called in Macross-not-Robotech?) held the belief that 'The Protculture' was some form of Precursor/Progenitor Culture that existed during the reign of some ancient humanoid race from which all other humanoids were descended. this makes sense as this is a common theme in sci-fi...
  4. Re: Re: Re: HTH Rapid Fire, Auto Fire, etc. Hey thanx...... STILL waiting though,...... D@#% "FLGS"......
  5. I have but one thing to say to this guy; Plonk.
  6. Re: Re: Re: HTH Rapid Fire, Auto Fire, etc. Ahhh....can't wait to get my copy. (still tyrin to catch up)
  7. Oh, I can see it now....... Picard gets wisked away by Section 31, never to be seen again for at least a month or three. Then, upon his return, the Enterprise is asked to escort an experimental ship from the Utopia Planitia Shipyards; The Folicle Class (Defiant Variant) It seems to be armed with a new technological breakthrough...... The 'DOME' generator.
  8. Personally, as a GM I'd say no. Too many complications and STR is too cheap already. As a Player, I'd say "Sure, why not?". In the end, ask your GM, see what he says. I'm sorry I can't be of more help but IDHFIFOM.
  9. I use this method when coming up with fantasy sounding names. The problem is not really making them fantasy-sounding, it's picking from the commonly used sounds to form something that works. Try this; When stuck for a name, check out the letters of any nearby car's license plate. Example; KVY-#### possible name ideas; Kovay Komin Navay Navius Koliv Eire et cetera. And, of course, each combination and name idea can be used to generate new ideas. Hope this helps.
  10. My vote for that goes to 3e DnD. "MY ThacO Is a three. Let's go play some D n D......" :D
  11. "Queen City Knights" is my vigilante, Dark Champs campaign based out of Charlotte, NC. "Twin Galaxies" is a SH campaign starting out at the tail end of the Sagitarian Arm of the Milky Way.
  12. Re: HTH Rapid Fire, Auto Fire, etc. Just buy Autofire with the maneuver. Give the number of shots (punches) to determine the adjustment. Apply the advantage cost to the points of the maneuver. example... Killing Strike, Autofire (5 shots; +1/2) Base cost: 4 points Active cost: 6 points Remember that Martial Arts are nothing more than a collection of maneuvers that a character learns under a certain style. Essentially, the maneuver is just a power to which the advantage is applied. However, some GMs would only allow this to be built as a Hand Attack, or HKA. Also, I believe there's more on this in Ultimate Martial Artist, but I'm still waiting on my copy, so I'm not sure.
  13. If StarFleet has such wonderful technology, how come they can't build a decent sheild that isn't blown away after a couple of shots? Let alone cure baldness?
  14. thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you......... I just checked out the software, and I LOVED it. What used to take me a week or two now only takes me about 1 minute or less. Too bad I'm out of ink... After all my efforts in keeping my FLGS on the ball to order my copy of SH, the only thing really keeping me from getting my game up and running was sector design. Any chance the updated version has an adjustment for Hard SF versus Space Opera/ Rubber Science settings?
  15. I have the same problem. My wife, at last, finished her first character ever. Or, rather, I finshed it for her. Having never created a character, let alone having never played a RPG, I didn't want to scare her off with long discussions and lectures of base-points-times-one-plus-the-total-of-power-advantages-equals-active-cost-et cetera.... So I built the powers for her, and just discussed with her what she wants the powers to do. I figure, she'll see the character sheet, get familiar with the terms, and eventually ask 'what does THIS mean?' and go looking it up. The biggest problem, however, was writing up her disadvantages. Since these IMO seem to be the most fluid part of the character (nobody ever really plays them up ALL the time), and they have a tendancy to change as hunteds are killed, the PC has a change of heart, whatever,.... I decided to just give her character the points, and let her play the character however she wants. As she displays certain psychological traits, or social problems are introduced/brought to light, I'll write them in. That way, she can play in character with the least amount of effort, because that's how she'd have always played it anyway.
  16. Re: Mega-Intelligence characters Not really sure how I would handle the mega-intelligent PC per se, but the game itself should be pretty easy. Just be sure to focus on the 'un'-mega-intelligence of the other characters. Also, be careful. This maay be a character concept prompted by the popularity of the show John Doe. Such a character would be interesting to play, I admit, but it wouldnt leave much to do for the other players. He'd just be too darn smart. These types of characters, IMHO are normally requested as allowed by two types of players. 1) players who, although they're your friends, just don't have the mental capacity to convincingly pull off this character. AND; 2) players who are 'smart' enough to pull it off, but have a tendency to be rules lawyers that try to take over the game.
  17. Re: Re: source materials for alien construction I own and have read all three several times. Card's book is great and some of his other writer's guides have helped me immenseley in the past with my own fiction. However for SH help, specifically, of the three books mentioned thus far, I'd recommened The Writer's Guide To Creating A Science Fiction Universe for the setting. Aliens and Alien Societies for, uh, well.... And, World Building (Ben Bova??)(also part of the same series by Writer's Digest) for creating plausible worlds (but only if you wanna get really technical.
  18. Re: Help me Naval Architects... you're our only hope... Is there a particular type of ship from either movies or Tv you're trying to emulate? If starting entirely from scatch, I would try to design a generic fighter ship so as to establish a baseline. Now, you could use the Fighter from SH, but perhaps you wanna have the satisfaction/agony of doing it yourself. Okay,... so once you have your fighter, you can base other designs on that. Just don't go too far from the specs. By this, I mean to go from a fighter to a stealth fighter to a destroyer, to a frigate, etc...... Not from a civilian tramp freighter straight to a warship. This will help continuity and lower any disparity between ship classifications. One last thing, never EVER equip your ship with 'star trek' shield generators. Those things NEVER hold up.
  19. Life Support: all poisons and viral agents, Usable On Others (+1/4), 1 continuing Charge lasting 1 Day (+1/4), OAF spell components (difficult to obtain new focus, -1 1/4) base cost: 10 points active cost: 15 points real cost: 6 points
  20. Personally, I think the fact that (If I understood you correctly), most of the villains go desolid, is Cheez enough. I wouldn't worry too much about the cheez factor.
  21. To quote the Mr. Horse from 'Ren and Stimpy'...... "No Sir, I didn't like it." Hero Games needs to get together with Chessex (or whoever) and make solid, jet-black-with-green dice. Perhaps even the kind with digits instead of pips? I've personally always found those easier to count....
  22. Re: House Rules? Typical point totals? Newbie questions. Lemme ask you this, so as to answer your questions better.... (as Choasleige already alluded to) What type of campaign are you going to run? I'm not asking about point totals, etc, just will it be high fantasy, low fantasy, LOTS of mega-powerful-uber-spells? Or will it be something more 'down to earth' like, say, Ladyhawke ?
  23. Picture?!?!... what Picture?.......
