Re: How do I introduce HERO to a potential new player? Your answer is here. Take his favorite sci-fi show and write up the most important characters. Write up character loosely based upon your friend, a scholar type. His character is a supporting cast member for a few episodes (sessions). This will give him some experience in a fun sort of way.

Re: What is HERO about? I find the 'free form' style very attractive. Consensus is nice and often safe, but perhaps isn't what everyone can follow faithfully and truthfully.

Re: Reality TV For Superheroes In my old D20 Campaign, the characters were followed as they went through The World's Largest Dungeon. The idea can be easily converted over to Champions...I converted it over to my Dark Champions campaign...

Re: What is HERO about? HERO is like a recipe book. Tons of great foods, yet everyone will want to alter them to fit their own tastes. They'll find others who like what they made and others who don't. The system is like food for the mind. Some game recipes are well received, others are not.

Re: Captain Average!!! I'd vote Alfred. He's more of a sidekick, though it would take a fairly remarkable person to manage Batman's mansion. I guess Robin might qualify as well.

Re: "24" Challenge Though I have yet to see '24'...I am most certainly going to use the character IMC.

Re: Background skills As I work on 'PS' possibilities, I am finding that a PS can replace some of the existing skills on the list. Examples: 'I like working with people'. PS-Customer Service-12-. Conversation, High Society, Oratory, Persuasion could be covered at times. 'I like working for people'. PS-Public Servant-12- Acting, Bureaucratics, Cramming could be covered at times. Etc. The possibilities are endless. I guess you could call them 'Package Deal-lites'. My favorite is: 'I like to know a little about a lot'. PS-Polymath-12-. Here, the player tells the game master which other skills he would like to emulate. He could pick say, 3-5 other skills. It is kinds of like the skill enhancer 'Expert' in someways....
