  1. Re: Daily Art Findings QFT. I think Skeletor comes off even better than He-man, though. Scary psycho-skeleton-man!
  2. Re: Flash (DC character, not the power) Actually, in the modern JSA Jay Garrick has stolen Black Adam's speed, twice (Black Adam was cooperating, though). But otherwise he's (merely) lunaticly fast. In JLA Elite Wally also managed to be in two places at once, but it KO'd him to do it. He also does instant swaps (people for fake bodies, for instance).
  3. Re: Mythos of the Werewolf Only if it's raining! So what if a werewolf in human form is slain, the moon comes up, and it's still daytime? does he become a vampire and instantly explode in the sunlight?
  4. Re: Anime for HERO: A new Wiki Way cool! I don't have any characters to post right now, but I did go ahead and clean up the characteristic section of Pretty Sammy, making it into a wiki table.
  5. Re: Alternate Star Wars Chronology.... LOL. Now, now, Lando isn't a main character--so of course he can't take credit. Han & Leia can have their fat pulled out the fire by a bunch of stone age aboriginal teddy bears, and get credit for a successful op. Luke can get microwaved by the emperor like a bag of cheap popcorn, and get credit for bringing down the empire. Them's the breaks!
  6. Re: Star Hero fictional settings we haven't seen I'll put in a nod for Crest/Banner of the Stars; good, pretty hard SF anime show (well, it's also a novel series, but it's written in Japanese).
  7. Re: Robotics in the Marvel Universe How about Arcade? he tended to come up with robotic duplicates of X-men easily enough. Not having read Marvel in years though I don't know if he's alive or dead.
  8. Re: "Tag Along" movement power How about Extra Limbs, IPE, Usable by Others + STR, No END, IPE, Usable By Others, all with 'only so I can deadhead' as a limitation? After all, if they had a free limb and sufficient strength, they could just schlep you along anyway. So give them an extra limb and sufficient STR! Note: this doesn't work for Teleport, of course. EDIT: it also occurred to me that you could buy the other character as a vehicle and ride them to the destination. But figuring out how to do that made my head hurt, so I gave up on it.
  9. Re: Chainmail Bikini Effects
  10. Re: Who knows physics? This is pretty hard science, actually: the white gunk inside a flourescent tube does exactly this, except that the output's pretty blue (and you want it reddish). If there is not a singular substance that will reradiate UV->red light, you could probably find a 2-layer coating that does UV->bluish->reddish. For another way to do this, see this slashdot (from Today!): http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/10/22/1633256&tid=14 Also, if they can get UV->whiteish light, they could then filter the blue end. You won't get a lot of red light this way, but it'll still look red to the observer.
  11. Re: Dukes of Hazzard Hero IIRC, every single jump destroyed one of the cars. Of course, most of the jump footage was recycled, so I don't know how many cars were actually destroyed. And I think I'd make the Dukes Followers of the General Lee. I mean, whose the hero of this show, really? (and I think Flash was probably built on more points than Roscoe)
  12. Re: A Knockback houserule idea I'm putting the choice up to the player. That can certainly lead to meta-gaming--but it could also allow some dramatizing, too. I do think that being knocked back can be a benefit some of the time; for instance, if you're getting worn down too much. Note that you aren't taking any more damage for being knocked back, so allowing a creature to pound you back might give you a chance at recovering. On the other side, I suspect this rule would tend to reduce KB occurrances: it would mostly occurr when the target got Stunned rather than (potentially) on every blow. This is fine with me, but I'd like to see what others think. Mostly, I'm thinking out digitally and hoping I made some sense
  13. This is basically a house rule I was thinking of to streamline Knockback, and make it a bit more like comic book style (I don't perceive knockback being a source of massive damage in comic books at all--it does inconvenience and reposition people, but I don't really see it hurting people in most cases). Also, it'd be nice to speed KB up a bit. Anyway, the idea is like this: KB doesn't do damage. Instead, if a character takes a hit the player may elect to knockback or stand tough. If they knockback, they roll dice as normal to determine the distance and fall prone as usual. They must choose before rolling the dice (if they don't roll enough KB, they stay anyway--and they can end up just falling prone on a 0" roll). Also, if they are stunned by the attack the attacker's player chooses! The purpose of this is to allow the players to make a metagame dramatic choice out of KB. Nighthawk's player can choose whether to suck it up and keep fighting, or that a hit is massive and blows him back. Along the same lines, Mechanon can choose to swat aside puny meat-bags--or Bulldozer could decide to 'teach that Night-chicken a lesson!' Anyway, that's my thought. Any comments?
  14. Re: what to do with a psychic gorilla some intertwined ideas: His powers could grow, in that he can apply them to large numbers of other gorillas at once. So, he can see and hear from any of them, and psychically attack from any of them. This makes him rather tough to defeat. He could also be revealed to not be an ape at all, but rather a psychic entity that was trapped (as a mistake during the experiments) into an ape's body. As he slowly becomes aware of this, he becomes capable of freely body-hopping into any ape (similar in effect to the above). What he actually is, and what he'll do once he becomes aware of it is anyone's guess. Moreover, he may find that the experiment actually damaged him in some way so he *must* be in an ape body rather than a free-floating psychic thingy. He could also become an ape-borg thing: all the apes combine their (individually-limited) minds, become smart but not independent. These ape-borg then seek to take over (or build a safe haven).
  15. Re: Liefeld's Titans Word. When I saw the art, I wondered if this was being marketed as 'When She-males attack!' DC is paying him for this? why?
  16. Re: How to Ka-Girl your friends (and foes) I think it's pretty obvious that her transform spell is a triple Body/Mind/Soul transform--and she doesn't actually know that. Or have the ability to completely supress the Mind/Soul side. In any case, it's a huge power. Something like 3 linked 6d6 transforms, no END (it so far has effected everyone in one shot effortlessly). With AoE selective. So, approximately 270 (!) active points for each of 3 transforms. From what I can see, she has gestures and incantations, but no other obvious limitations--she *can't* have RSR, because she isn't highly skill yet and the penalty on that spell would be what, -80? Good comic though, thanks for bringing it to my attention!
  17. Re: If you hate Killing Attacks, how would you replace them? I recall someone (Derek?) using a +1/2 Killing Advantage on EBs--but it also adds +1 BODY/die. So, 15 pts. gets you 4 BODY, 7 STUN on average. This seemed to be one of the best options IMO.
  18. Re: Feuermacher Puzzler... The Ladies better hope he's a minute man, then...
  19. Re: Stardrive Engines, how would you do it? That sounds like Megascale Teleport, requires extra time (5 days) to me. The recovery time could either be with an END reserve tuned to get back the END needed in 5 days, or just a second extra time limitation on the power (I'd do the latter). For the Faster Recharge and Extra Jump Distance, I'd just require them to make an Engineering roll with a penalty to see if they can accelerate/overclock the system. Starfall Detectors would just be a (Mega)ranged detect/sense in a giant focus. From your description, it sounds like they always detect the ship, but only during the 11 hours after arrival (funky!). So, I'd probably make it N-ray as well (so it can't be blocked) and use megascale to make the entire range of the sense into 1 giant hex (so it has no range penalties). Communications would be similar (The High-range radio power) with megascale and extra time. DriveWave sounds like it works the same, just with shorter extra time. BTW, given that it takes 1 engine 5 days to recharge, could you mount two engines and recharge 1 while the other is moving you? Or was that not allowed in the Alternity setting? (Never played it, just curious...)
  20. Re: Mystical Hero Team Archetypes
  21. Re: Blowing up a mountain Well that would work! But I was going to suggest giving everything vulnerabilities to Super-Saiyan powers. Normals: x2, Everyday objects x3-4, Scenery x5. That way, you just build the characters with the typical 60 active points or so and everything breaks easily (except other characters, of course). Of course, I'm really fond of doing this kind of things in pretty much all genres (with different things getting different multiples in different genres, of course).
  22. Re: Superpowers that haven't been thought out... Actually, the comic book version didn't have any explaination AFAIK. He just stuck to stuff. And he could climb/walk on basically any surface, even if that surface was not capable of bearing that kind of weight (he's been known to walk on drywall in houses/apartments for instance--no way that would work!) I think the movie did 'little hairs' which have the problems you describe. Spidey 2099 had short retractable claws--and he had all the problems you might expect with such (accidentally tearing things up, leaving marks in walls and such). He also seemed to be limited to stuff that could actually bear his weight, too. And Spidey's danger sense is practically the model of ill-thought-out powers; how the heck did it work? And how did it relate to spiders, anyway?
  23. Re: Are limited defenses to expensive? I agree, mostly. But I think that the value of limited power should be game-dependent, too. If you have a fanatasy world that has numerous fire-breathing monters and cults of flame sorcerers 'only v. fire' should be worth a lot less than 'only v. lightning'. Whereas a superhero campaign they should probably be the same limitation value. But -1/2 for 'only v. fire' in most campaigns is too small of a limitation. To be honest, I've noticed before that virtually all limited power limitations in published products tend to be mapped into the -1 to -1/4 range, rather than into the -2 to -1/4 range. Maybe it's out of fear of appearing to point-greedy?
