  1. Re: Legion of Super-Pets Yep. Indonesian and South American Myth, Cats are major wampum bad dudes. As for Beppo, moderen literature has a whole slew of intelligent apes, from the tarzan stories onwards, King Kong and Son of kong included. Not mentioning DC's Gorilla Grodd, Golden Ape and Titano etc. Hmmm, African Ape. South American Cat, American Dog, European Horse and then Proty becomes some sort of Asian Snake shape changer? It's a regular UN here.

    Fading Suns

Re: Fading Suns About the time I ditched D&D and took up Champions (well, Superhero 2004 to Villains & Vigilantes to Champions 1st Ed) I ran a final adventure for my D&D players. Set 30 years after their adventures They were older, fatter, greyer and not the youngsters they once were. The banded together to once again fight an evil threat against the Royal Family they had restored to the throne. My players looked upon it as "one last ride to glory" and all of them, in a bunch, went out with a bang. Draw a line in the sand, no retreat, no surrender kind of thing. Heck of an end to 6 years of D&D campaign. Beware of this happening here. The Characters can get into a mindset that the only way for a hero to go down is to go down fighting. And thus they'll start to do stuff that a young character wouldn't consider. Sort like the Captain America line "You free the prisoner, I'll hold off the army". They'll do one brick vs Godzilla if it gives them a heroic end and a good story to tell over the post game beer
  3. Re: The Legacy Champions Lives On! As to Archer Jr. It's time to bring out the Batman and JLA unlimited cartoons. Or 'Ultimate Avengers: The Movie". It's cruel, but it's the only way man!
  4. Re: Legion of Super-Pets Do you remember when Marvelman was resurrected in the UK back in the 1980's? he had to change his name to Miracleman due to DC's legal eagles?. Well, there was a shape changing beast created by Miracle mans enemy Dr... Sivana? (I forget and i've not got access to my comics). It went from cute fuzzy pup to 500kg steel chewing hell beast at the word of command. The word being 'SteppenWolf'. If you want to see a nasty dog based animal, check that out. Science based form change. Comet, a flying super horse who, under the influence of a comet, can change back into the form of a man from whence he came. Abilities are magic based. Hmmm, then there's Sleipnir, Wotan/Wodin/Odin's 8 legged horse which travels between the 9 worlds of reality and is superspeed flying brick. An alien. Lots of potential here.
  5. Re: How to get ideas across (GM's) Yep, new players fall into the usual 2 groups. Instant addicts and "whaa duhhh huh?". She may be nice and a great person, but do not let her join the group. "Uneccessary conversations?" sounds like a Borg. Was she educated or programmed?
  6. Re: The Funny Villains I built a villain based upon Fred Astaire - called him the Dancing Bandit. His weaponry was silver age gimmicks like those of the Top, or the Penguin. he'd dance in, steal a few thousand and dance off. Played strictly for laughs and the "I cannot believe that just happened!" effect. Built with 75 points under 2nd Edition, I just keep updating him. Never grows in pointage though.
  7. Re: Legion of Super-Pets Surely (and stop calling me Shirley) the Krypto analog would be more of a Dire wolf / Fenris Wolf of legend - The Wolf that destroys reality at Armagedon? He's supposed to be tougher than Beppo or Streaky after all. Which makes Proty (he was a morphing blob belonging to Chameleon Boy) a sot of Proto-Kuthulu Shoggoth???
  8. Re: Legion of Super-Pets And why, may I ask, did you not mention Proty? Hmmmmmm? Just because Proty II destroyed the idea of the LoSP??
  9. Re: The cranky thread But he walks away with pizzazz and style!
  10. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I fully, completely and totally agree with that statement. I do not want to play games on my phone. I do not want to recieve email on my phone. I do not want live updates of sports on my phone. I do not want the current top 20 rubbish to cycle through as my 'ring' tone. I don not want adverts on money saving offers on my phone. I do not want Smurfs on my phone. I want a phone. That's it.
  11. Re: Trading up with Skill Levels I agree with prior comments. combat skill levels are always upgradable, like going up in colour belts for karate/judo etc. Consequently so are other skill types, Knowledge Areas/skills and perks. One character I knew saved some points and bought a 'got money' perk. This he traded up for a "Loadsamoney" perk, he said he won the lottery. Then he upgraded it to "Playboyfilthyrichyoubetcha!". This was put down to successfull trades on the stock exchange. Took time, but it was fun. Note that this also works in reverse! I also had a millionaire playboy who lost his cash (same game oddly enough. many dark looks were traded 'in game'). Went from "Playboyfilthyrichyoubetcha!" to "struggling gutterscum". The points saved went on a couple of combat skill levels. His justification was that he'd spent so much time with the crime fighting shtick he'd let others take control of his fortune. The brilliant thing about the system is that everything can grow... or shrink.
  12. Re: Complicate the Person Above The sad part of that story is that the 'play pants' were made of orange and black striped spandex.
  13. Re: Answers & Questions Q: The body of John Paul II has been cryogenically preserved. What is it called? A: But the menu said "fresh today".
  14. Re: A Thread for Random Musings So I speak to the head of OmskEnergia about supplying power to our proposed construction base at Bel Yar. No problem, some forestry outfit went broke, I can get a 1mW supply. He then gives me the contact info of OmskEnergia's preferred subcontractor. For speed of work, approvals, expertising, commissioning etc, I should use them. Of course, he forgot to mention that his son is the general manager of this company. Corruption? Siberia leads the way, others just follow!
  15. Re: Answers & Questions Q: What are you going bribe the Norwegian prime Minster with? A: It made me look fat.
  16. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Rhiannon - Fleetwood mac
  17. Re: Complicate the Person Above Of course, Cancer is far too modest to mention his video credit as the Lyrics writer for all of Min-Mays songs in the English version of Robotech. What a guy!
  18. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? One Inch Rock - T.Rex (Enforcer84 made me do it.)
  19. Re: Character: Lance Ryan Lots of story matter hidden away there. Secretive union organisers facing off against big business, the local Veterans Association being called out to support the businesses as strike breakers... Who are the good guys in that broohah? Ooh, nice! Thanks Von D-man.
  20. Re: Char: Max "The Mechanic" Edison I liked the "Look what I can make" 100 pt robot. I can see something made from a bucket, a Victrola Radio, two fire extinguishers, some plumbing valves and a childs trycycle. The machine has only one ability (apart from movement)at that pointage and is very fragile. That is so cool and very much 1930's. Repped!
  21. Re: Character: Lance Dulak, Private Eye No shaving? A small piece of character colour, costs nothing in points yet adds some possibilities for character dialog. I like it. (This is always one of those questions about Superman that gets explained, re-explained, revised and explained away, over and over by new generations of comic readers, writers and artists.)
  22. Re: escalating side effects rule Oooh yeah! That's the way to do it! Work it Gm... WORK IT! After all, too much rules lawyering is bad for you soul (or so I've been told).
  23. Re: escalating side effects rule Agreed, but for a player to have slowly spent his hard earned experience on buying skill levels to buy that one down does, as you say, take time. I'd, being sneaky, allow his a character re-write after all that time and odds are he'd re-arrange those pts into something else. If he does indeed keep it, with skill levels out of the wazoo, how about, still being sneaky, you change your narration while in play? Drop hints that the power in question isn't acting quite right? Whether it is or not. Do a lot of frowning while consulting notes and generally hinting that the over use of this ability "may not bode well for the future of mankind". Make the player wonder what's going on that he/she cannot see or is not noticing? Paranoia is good for character building after all.
