The good Dr. is referring to the businesses with their buildings fully lit. I'd mentioned that one explanation for them having power might be proximity to a hospital, which is how hospitals came up.

Nope.  As you're traveling along the track, you encounter a woman tied to the tracks.  Another mile or so away is a train coming this way.  You untie the woman and get her off the tracks just in time; the train passes by without harming her.  You continue in the direction from where the train came, and in another mile or so, there's another woman tied to the tracks, and another train coming.

As long as you keep moving with the tracks, this happens.  And if you turn around and go the other way, exactly the same thing happens.  The train is always coming from the direction you're moving toward, and even though you might be passing by a section you've already passed by and rescued a woman from, there's another living woman tied there, with another train coming.  And there's only one track; it's not double-lanes where trains can pass by either direction.

I've heard a lot of people making a case that those in northern states accustomed to severe winter weather shouldn't criticize Texas for their handling of this emergency.

So y'all sit back and let me do it from here in Arkansas, right next to Texas at the same latitude and with the same weather. While there are the expected outages caused by power lines being down and such, we're largely doing okay despite getting more than double our average annual snowfall in the last 3 days. What we don't have are millions of people without power due to a completely isolated power grid, utility companies shutting down power entirely (and suspiciously in minority and low-income neighborhoods) rather than enacting rolling blackouts, and an overly influential Oil industry that demonizes all other forms of power production.

Oh, we also don't have a US Senator infamous for opposing federal aid to other states during natural disasters skipping off to sunny Cancun on vacation in the middle of such in his own state.

Dr.Device reacted to archer in car flipped
She's battered and bruised but didn't hit her head or hurt her joints that we can tell.

The roads were a sheet of ice. She was going very slowly and just turning into the parking lot on her way to work.

She turned the steering wheel but the car didn't turn at all. She tried straightening out her steering wheel then the car started to slightly turn. It missed most of the entrance and her front wheel ran up on a large decorative rock. Since there wasn't any detectable coefficient of friction under any of the other wheels, the car flipped as the other wheels just slipped out from underneath.

The site manager came out to see why the main entrance of the parking lot was blocked and see if there was anything he could do to help so even though no one was able to get through on the phone to her place of work, they were eventually filled in on why she wasn't there. Whatever emergency personnel responded to the accident had to break the windshield to get her out.

My wife didn't call an ambulance since they're swarmed over with emergency calls from around the city. And since she wasn't sure she could drive safely to an emergency room either to drop off or pick up a patient (not to mention the COVID risk of trying to deal with an emergency room), she just came on home with everyone.

The car is safely at a body shop sans windshield and the paperwork there filled out. The insurance company has been called.

I've got a migraine, no sense of balance, and a lightly sprained ankle and I wasn't even in the accident. On the other hand, I can form entire spoken sentences now and managed to feed and water the cats without assistance.

Anyway, everyone was home and asleep by the time I woke up again so I don't have any news more than what I got from a phone call earlier.

This wasn't the kind of paperwork nightmare and expense that we needed but apparently, at least, things could have been much, much worse. Five people were killed in a single vehicle accident near here on the icy roads yesterday morning.

Most of the rest of your comments go to your intent for the powers, so I won't address those, opinions are opinions and equally valid.

But no, just because something is available to be bought in Hero Designer does not make it legal or valid. 6e1, 303 / FREd 235:

So the power you built originally would be more like: (unless you are talking time travel as well, then start at 77 CP)

EDM: Any physical location in any dimension [45 CP]; Area Of Effect: 2m Radius (+1/4), Usable Simultaneous: 16 others (+1 1/4); Real Cost: 112

You would be a lot better off saying you needed to research each dimension and just building a spell for each one. More like:

EDM: Any physical location in one defined dimension [22 CP]; Area Of Effect: 2m Radius (+1/4), Usable Simultaneous: 16 others (+1 1/4); Real Cost: 55

If it's just a plot device, then the GM probably would not even need to see the point structures, because no matter what they will provide a way for it to happen.

So I had an in-person Cincy VA medical appt today and they were doing 70 and over Covid vaccinations.  Due to the massive amount of snow that got dumped on SW Ohio last night, they were several no-shows.  As they now had extra vaccines leftover for the day, someone stopped me as I was going out and asked if I wanted vaccinated.  Long story short, I got my first dose of Moderna vaccine today and my return appt. is March 10th.  To quote the famous philosopher Ice Cube, "I guess it was a good day."

Late to the party, but I wanted to throw out some more little numbers for anyone still interested.

    2: Impeachments
8: Cabinet members convicted of felonies
    5: War criminals pardoned
62: Lawsuits filed to overturn the 2020 election
    61: Defeats in those lawsuits
519,000,000: Taxpayer dollars spent on those lawsuits (so far)
    0: Trump tax returns released
2: Drunken rapists and completely unqualified theocrats appointed to the Supreme Court
    2: Self-coup attempts
    5: Fatalities in those attempts

    I'm sure I missed some.

450,000 US Covid deaths - 1/5 of the Global deaths thanks to a non-existent national plan, constant mixed messages, flip-flopping strategies, and embracing pseudo-science.  The Trump Covid response alone is a numbers based reason that almost anyone is better than Trump and that he's one of the worst Presidents ever.

Honestly, no one has linked to the news story, that I've seen, and I have no idea what details of the story have been made public or not.

But from what others have said in this thread, the police pepper sprayed a kid who was already in the back of a police cruiser.

If that's what happened, I don't care if the kid slit the throat of the pope: that was completely inappropriate behavior from the police.

I have every confidence that a nine year old kid could flat out kill me if she tried because I'm not exactly in robust health. But even I could control a nine year old kid who's already in the back of a police cruiser without resorting to using a weapon.

If the police actually used a weapon on a kid after she was safely in custody, the police were solidly in the wrong.

    Period.

    What are you currently playing/GMing?
Sadly, nothing currently. I've mostly just played Hero stuff (and variants) since the early nineties. I've mostly GMed the past twenty years or so.

    Campaigns I've run:
The Knack: A group of people with "Knacks" (minor supernormal or paranormal abilities) are on the run from a billionaire who wants to explout them.
Needle: A not particularly successful game set in the world of "The Peace War" by Vernor Vinge. The only game I ever ran that was based on a world not of my own creation, and it showed.
The Void: Same world as the Knack, but a physics experiment gone wrong unleashes full-fledged superpowers on the world. Some of the same characters, as the Void.
Arcane Invasion: The USA is invaded by an evil wizard and his armies from a D&D like world.
Gale Force: Same world as the Void, but things have gotten weirder, and now there are frequent incursions from other universes. Gale Force is Chicago's local response team.
Arcane America: Set in a USA where the Arcane Invasion happened right after WWII, instead of in the 2000s. The PCs are a private security/investigations firm.
Ejecta: There are weird objects that defy the laws of physics (and logic, for that matter). The PCs get caught up in a plot around them.

Well whether or not that concept made it to 6th edition, its... wrong.  In any campaign I run, that rule doesn't exist.

By definition, area effect powers apply equally to all creatures in the area. Drain, Flash, Blast, it doesn't matter.  Just because "this will be hella effective!" doesn't mean you ignore that basic Hero rule.  If you feel too uncomfortable with that, you could treat the AE as a "special" attack like the way autofire works, so it takes an extra +1 advantage but "we're gonna break the rules because some dude in my campaign bought this and I didn't like it" does not wash.

I have read all Thor's myths, and you're right. Thor wasn't a grinning frat boy, he was a rather simple-minded, rash, short-tempered, violent lummox, good for killing the enemies of the gods but not a lot besides. A good hero for Vikings, not so much for the sensibilities of the modern world. The comic character himself differs radically from mythic Thor, as he had to for his comic to sell.

I'm afraid I have to strongly disagree. As a character, after his first film appearance Thor was in a rut. Every action he took was only in reaction to someone else: his brother, his father, his foes like Malekith and Ultron. Thor wasn't changing or growing. That's why Hemsworth said he was getting bored; and that's why he and Kevin Feige and Taika Waititi agreed to blow up all the constants in Thor's life.

Feige and Hemsworth understand very well that a hero is defined by the challenges they face. There's no heroism in always standing tall if you're never at risk of falling short. It's a fall that makes the subsequent rise so inspiring. No one has had more reason to fall as far and hard as Thor, but when it really mattered he stood up again. That's a hero.

(And all this is coming from a guy who HATES that entire story line. But I can see why they did it, and it makes both dramatic and economic sense.)
