I think the STR levels are high, even if just 13. A score of 10 would seem more likely, which would show them as being in shape. They weren't really physical sorts.

In a number of recent interviews with the remaining actors the weight of the packs was mentioned. All three actors said they were around 40 lbs. and very difficult to wear on a long term basis or when running.

One thought that crossed my mind was why learn a new system when you can recreate the GI Joe universe with the HERO rules.

I’m as loyal as an old hound dog to the HERO System and the Liberty and Justice for which it stands.  But some folks haven’t been instructed in the ways of our one true religion. *coughcultcough* 😜

OMG this is probably a facet of when I picked up RPGS - Tjack - you must be possibly the only person I know who got into an RPG because they were chasing a girl! My gaming has been resolutely male and, while there was lots of interest in women/girls, it was a matter of finding other ways of meeting them.  🙂 Kudos...

I think it was a statistical thing because the gaming group I started with was the M.I.T. Strategic Games Society.  I had a high school GED and one year of night school college, but there I was. The S.G.S. had around 25 to 30 (If one of the two other members of that group on this board could please check my memory) members so there were occasional female players. Funny thing, the two most consistent women playing were both named Debbie and had the last initial S.

  4.    I got into Champions because a girl asked me to.  I was chasing after her and she was in a game and knew I was into comic books in a big way. I loved the game and stayed with it long after she and I were no more.
So you’ll have to ask her what game she would have been playing ‘cause she could have asked me to try laying down in traffic and I would have said OK.

A sure sign, if one were ever needed, that answers to prayer are almost never what you expect them to be.

Wasn’t he asking the spirit of his father for help in finding the man in black (Wesley) and the sword acted as a divining rod to hidden entrance to the dungeon?   He got exactly what he asked for.  I’m embarrassed about how long it’s been since I’ve seen the movie.

Sammy Davis Junior doing Mr Bojangles live in Germany 1985

While I believe that the original version by the Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band has more pathos and works better musically, Sammy Davis Jr. has paid the dues and made the sacrifices during his long career and life to do the bloody song any way he sees fit.  Anyone interested in his fascinating life should check out the American Masters special done for PBS.

  7. The real world inspiration for the artwork for the design of Avengers Mansion back in the ‘60’s was a museum in Manhattan. I don’t remember the name off the top of my head but with some research we could find it.  It’s probably still there if you want photographs.

My opinion for years is that computer/console RPGs are not actually RPG's.  They are closed event games with lots o pretty eye candy.  You can do nothing in a "CRPG" that hasn't already been thought of and specifically programmed in.  Even the "open world sand box" CRPG's are limited.

An RPG needs a human to be actively running the game and human players to be actively playing the PC's.

I do find it amusing that they are calling it an Arena Game because it is long on combat and short on non-combat Role Playing because that is exactly what Hero is.

Lots of guidance on combat and power usage in combat.  Very little to nothing on out of combat role play.  There some great guidance on building campaigns, but not much on non-combat run of play.

Unfortunately for us, the World & creativity in general, that seems to be what this era of potential players wants.  It’s easier to stare at a screen than it is to read and easier to consume than to create. How to use one’s imagination is a skill and it’s no longer being taught or learned.  New thoughts and ideas stimulate the brain into creating new neural pathways.  The act of thinking pumps blood and oxygen to the brain making it a more efficient thinking machine.  The mind is a muscle and theirs are not being exercised.

How much of what sells in Hollywood is either adapted from other media, a continuation of an ongoing franchise or an remake of something that’s been seen before.  This regurgitation of the familiar is easier for minds uncomplicated with individual thoughts to assimilate.

  9.    If you don’t agree with the particular style of Govt. as written in the source material......Change it.
It’s your campaign, it’s there to make you and your players happy.  You are not there to recreate a faithful view of the sourcebook.
Make the campaign as light or dark as you and your players desire.  Don’t sweat how to make the situation bearable.

To paraphrase Lord Vader “You can alter the terms of the agreement...And the source material should pray you do not alter them any further.”

    From our old friend bunneh:

Two Russians are talking about the "Special Military Operation" in Ukraine. "So what is this all about?" asks the first.

"Well, basically it's a proxy war between Russia and NATO," says the other.

"Wow," says the first. "How's it going?"

"So far we've lost a flagship, 15,000 troops, 8 generals, 500 tanks, and 100 planes."

"Geez, that's a lot," says the first guy. "How about NATO?"

The second guy shakes his head. "They haven't shown up yet."

“God help us if the Ukrainian people start getting proper weapons and training.”

“ I don’t think we’re allowed to believe in God.”

         “Oh......Then we’re screwed.”

  11.     I always go back to the comics for inspiration.  Didn’t the Hulk work with and later lead an organization like this during the Peter David “Professor Hulk” run?

Also as an organization I like the Blood.  It’s a nice bit of backround for a campaign. It introduces Heroes, Villians and NPC’s with interesting history’s and motivations. And if you’re running for newish players a good low impact mysterious situation to unravel. They require very little updating and with the MCU’s version of the Inhumans and Eternals there’s already a precedent for that kind of thing in the players minds.

If you believe V’Han to be a heroine, a shining light bringing about her benevolent rule over the masses who will just get into trouble if they make their own choices, then her foes can be easily portrayed as criminals by her supporters. Either misguided and just needing of re-education or genuinely evil and so should be eradicated.

If you work for her, you’re part of a candy-coated version of the SS, eagerly rooting out all subversives to her rule. If you don’t, you’re not part of the grand society she is building and are instead a potential threat to it.

I’d never heard of V’han before this thread. I’ve been speaking generally about Superheroing in a Sci-Fi setting.  But if this Empire is so Evil, why would you want to set a campaign there?   It seems to me like pitching a campaign to your players where they’re heroes in Germany in the ‘30’s.  It might be an interesting comic or novel but I wouldn’t want to spend my Saturday nights there.
