I posted the first couple of sessions of my Pulp Supers game (Hudson City 1938) to the Champions forum, and it was suggested I mention it here. Check it out. I'd link to the thread but I don't know how.

Okay, the obvious choice is Weta Workshop's THE WORLD OF KONG: A NATURAL HISTORY OF SKULL ISLAND, however, there are a number of other sources I'd like to recommend: A LIVING DINOSAUR -- Roy Mackal The search for the mokele-mbembe, the sauropod of the Congo, also lists other dinosaurs of Africa. SEARCHING FOR HIDDEN ANIMALS -- Roy Mackal Contains the buru, a 15' lizard from India, and Pulp-era stories of the man-eating tree of Madagascar. AFTER MAN -- Dougal Dixon THE NEW DINOSAURS -- Dougal Dixon Both books detail life on Earth after an extended period of evolution. After Man presumes it is 50 million years after man has vanished from the Ear…

Over at the Pulp E-Zine list we have a writing contest starting this week. http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/pulp_ezine/ Pulp E-zine Adventure writers Contest Submit a Mini adventure suitable for use in a Pulp oriented game. This may be a Role-playing or a Miniatures styled adventure. The adventure should be no more than 3000 words. Maps and map legends are not included in the word count. try to be as generic as possible in regard to Stats etc. the less system specific the better that way everyone can mold the adventures to their system of choice (GURPS, Hero system, .45 adventure, Two-fisted tales, Top Secret/SI, Dime Heroes, Thrilling tales, Etc.) …

I had a chance to play a demo of this at Gen Con. Basically, it's 1936 and the Earth is, well, hollow. I'm still reading the rulebook, so I haven't gotten to the worldbook section (working on combat right now), but I like the source material -- it makes for a good framework for long-term weird science pulp game. There are digging machines, Nazis, dinosaurs, mad scientists, Atlantis, and who knows what all (my idea for a demo scenario will use a Land of the Lost map I found and Sleestaks!), and seems open to endless possibilities. The system itself is fast and quick, albeit a little clunky (there's some interesting HERO system touches -- at least, what looks like…

I played this character years ago: Lance is an actor, but much more physical than most. He learned swordfare to work with Erol Flynn, and likes to brawl his way around swashbuckler style. He was a football player in college. He's also hiding a secret: his parents are Russians of the Bolshevik movement. They moved to the US before Lance was born, but have kept quiet about this fact for fear that other Americans would see seeds of distrust with the Rynovik family.

http://news.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=2434192005 Stalin's half-man, half-ape super-warriors CHRIS STEPHEN AND ALLAN HALL The Soviet dictator Josef Stalin ordered the creation of Planet of the Apes-style warriors by crossing humans with apes, according to recently uncovered secret documents. Moscow archives show that in the mid-1920s Russia's top animal breeding scientist, Ilya Ivanov, was ordered to turn his skills from horse and animal work to the quest for a super-warrior. According to Moscow newspapers, Stalin told the scientist: "I want a new invincible human being, insensitive to pain, resistant and indifferent about the quality of food they eat.…

Mousechief has a game comming out set in the 1920's. It's about teenage girls and their quest for adventure. It looks to me like a cross between The Maltese Falcon and Scooby Doo. http://www.mousechief.com/ I found these guys on Craigslist, looking for beta testers. Might be a fun gig if you live in the Bay Area and can get a few days off: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cpg/195925931.html

There's a real lack of Pulp Hero characters in the Hero Designer archives. This needs to change. I've posted another three characters tonight, and I hope other people will do the same. I know finding PD photos or artwork is a real pain, however it'd be nice to make it easier for people to use Hero Designer to quickly pick up a Pulp Hero PC, and for that we need to fill the archive.

When a man's partner's killed, he's supposed to do something about it. It doesn't make any difference what you thought of him, he was your partner, and you're supposed to do something about it. And it happens we're in the detective business. Well, when one of your organization gets killed, it's - it's bad business to let the killer get away with it. Bad all around. Bad for every detective everywhere. From Sam Spade, in The Maltese Falcon. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary wonders about soft-boiled detectives.
