Hi, I am looking for some help and need a bit of a brainstorm to develop a good plot. I am soon going to be running a series of serials based in the early 1800, first year of the campaign is 1812. I have the campaign set out and it starts with them trying to protect and American diplomat. My stumbling block is the 2nd scenario. It has to involve a scientist, professor or Dr who is working on a new design of balloon, but this design will fall into French hands. I need some ideas on how they find out, what is happening and how they resolve it. Ideas so far.. Series of scientist working on same thing are being kidnapped, so players watch the next likely victim…

With the last chapter of his Urban Arcana game wrapped up, a friend of mine in the group is planning to use his freshly-acquired Pulp Hero game for his next GMming outing. Unfortunately, the only kind of pulp I'm really familiar with is the kind that comes in country style orange juice. He mentioned several movies and the like that fit the genre, of which I had (predictably) seen only one (the Shadow), which makes for, shall we say, a small representative sampling of the genre at hand. From what I gather, anything resembling 'powers' tend to be subtle (if not strictly kept to mental abilities, a la mesmerism and the Shadow's 'clouding the minds of men'), though…

Who wants to be a supervillain? On the surface, it sounds like it's looking for regular supervillains, but apparently the goal is to sound pulpish, so I put it here. I'm sure a lot of you have some pretty good ideas to submit.

For a look at materials dating back to the age of the pulps and a bit later, either for reading pleasure of idea mining, take a look at: http://durendal.org:8080/books.html Durendal has a large collection of public domain works (cleared by Project Gurenberg) that includes a growing set of the original Tom Swift series from 1910 through the mid 1930's, updated as the works come into public domain. Other highlights are some early sci-fi by writers like E.E. 'Doc' Smith, John W. Campbell, and more. They have a minimum of page images for all of the works they archive, and provide links to Project Gutenberg e-texts and the few items still in print where ava…

This one comes to you guys with a dual nod to BigJackBrass and my wife, Mary Ann, for making it possible. She located it off a link on the the NAGS society website BigJackBrass provide a link to in his "I feel like a Pneu man... " post. http://www.stangrist.com/library.htm He's got articles on subterranean tunnels in the Andes, lost cities in the Amazon, giant monkeys in the South American jungles, and more. I don't know that I'd reccommend dropping 50.00 for his 'treasure hunting system as the frequent advertisements want you to, but the ideas were worth ignoring them.

For those of you not checking the wonderful Terra Incognita website at http://www.nagssociety.com I thought I'd pass along the following link: http://www.capsu.org is a site all about the wonders of capsule pipelines, from the small tubes still seen in some shops and banks (and the subject of a nifty sequence in The Shadow movie, if memory serves) right up to the sadly failed plans to make a subway based on the same principle. Access the original information superhighway... and don't forget to duck.

Anyone can tell me about this module? My friend claims he'd played it for a Justice Inc. campaign over ten years ago. It involved a gold mine and some villain called the Condor. That's all i know about it i'm afraid. My friend had moved to Ohio so until i can get in touch with him, you guys are my only hope. What can anybody tell me about the adventure and where i can find a copy?

I'm looking for suggestions as to which Pulp adventure PDF to pick up to run for my crew as a one-shot, just to give the genre a spin. The group will be a rather eclectic bunch of archtypal characters, including a scrappy kid, a fed, a pilot, a gadgeteer, a mage, and a reporter.

Just wanted to ask -- am I wrong, or was there a Japanese jujutsu master teaching martial arts in London from the late Victorian through the Pulp/WW2era? I'm certain I read something somewhere to that effect, but I've lost the details. All I can remember is that the guy was famous and skilled, supposedly gave some lessons in HtH combat to British commandoes in WW2, and was brought to England by the guy who developed Baritsu.

EN World has posted the release of a gaming supplement for what is basically King Kong and all of the extras (natives, etc.). Here is the link: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=162876 Bad news: the stats are in d20 But I would imagine converting it to Hero system would not be too difficult. -ME

Incompetent when facing the heroes, and often assumed to be low in points, these NPC's are the cannon fodder of any pulp game. But are they truly weak, or merely hampered by a bad selection of powers coupled with a truly horrid selection of Disadvantages? I invite you to join me in giving these minions as high a point value as we reasonably can, using only traditional genre behaviors. In a blatant and unforgiveable attempt to cash in on the appeal of the apparently popular "What I've learned playing a . . . " threads, I also ask that you limit your suggestions to no more than one of each per post.

You know, writers can't write without cliches, and GMs can't run NPCs without them either... So, I propose a new thread, one based on cliches, to help those GMs out there who are in need of ideas. So, without further ado, I post a couple links to some cliche lists and helpful docs I've found... The Movie Cliche List http://www.moviecliches.com/ The Grand List Of Console Role Playing Game Clichés http://project-apollo.net/text/rpg.html Have fun! Jak

One or two people have recommended to me an early 80s TV series set in 1938, Tales Of The Gold Monkey. Unfortunately it only seems to be available in bootleg DVD form from http://www.goldmonkey.com as far as I can tell from a simple search. Before I search harder I thought I'd ask for further input on whether (a) it's fun to watch, and ( it's good Pulp stuff.

Ayup, I have some nifty new photos of some Boeing designs from the mid 1930's. Forget about flying around in the China Clipper my friends, fly in style in one of these bad boys!!! I'll be breaking this up into a couple of posts for some attempt at brevity, divided by Fighters, Bombers, then Transports. First up, the latest in high speed, low drag fighters! Single seat and ready to rock! And now in formation flight with our twin engined variant: And our twin engined pursuit plane in all her glory:

Hi all, I'm new to the board and generally new to this posting thing. but I found this thread and thought: "hey! exactly what I need!" You see, I am also rather new at being the GM. My regular HERO group's regular referee needed a break,so dumb me, I said, "I've been kicking around a pulp kind of idea set in the 30s" Well they all wanted in. So I threw together (with the help of my husband) a few adventures that went over moderately well. Then "my turn" was supposed to be over for awhile (regular GM ready to roll again, ha ha). but life kicked that game's *** and now I am in the spotlight with far less time to "mull through" my various plot lines. So, I am asking for sugg…

I got this book the same week as my copy of The Encyclopedia of Fantastic Victoriana. Between these two works, I may never want for pulp inspiration again. Folks have covered Fantastic Victoriana previously, so I'll wax poetic about The Wide World. It's a volume of reprints from a British men's magazine that printed story of true-life adventures. To quote it's key-note introduction (from the late 19th century): The stories run a remarkable gamut of tales of human achievement and failure, spanning the magazine's nearly seventy year publication history and are accompanied by the original illustrations, occasional color plates of covers, short articles, and …

I am so impressed with the History Channel. They had a show on adventuring archeologists. One guy (Morley? Marlow?) was an archeologist in Mexico/Yucatan peninsula who volunteered his services to the country during WWI. Apparently, the Germans were considering putting U-boat resupply posts on the coast of Mexico. Over the course of a year or so, he was able to allay US fears...none of the sites were really suitable. Apparently, he was charming (drinking buddies with the husbands of the women he seduced), able to associate with governors and laborers, and had a super capacity to imbibe tequila. They had other stories about the british archeologist who helped …
