'Brazilian Stonehenge' discovered Tropical Stonehenge may have been found Did ancient Amazonians build a 'Stonehenge'? Long story wiki-short "In May 2006, archeologists announced they had found a pre-colonial astronomical observatory possibly 500 to 2,000 years old near Calçoene, which is in the Amazon River basin near French Guiana. Archaeologist Mariana Petry Cabral of the Amapa Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (IEPA) said that the observatory is a circle built of 127 blocks of granite, each 3 meters (10 feet) high." So with it what you will.

Wasn't someone looking for a copy of Trail of the Gold Spike recently? There is one up for grabs on eBay but you've got pretty limited time to bid.

Heres a question for both the main researcher(ie Steve) as well as the others out there. when/what are the breaks between Western Hero, Victorianna Hero and Pulp Hero? I know they are probably in that order but what sort of general dates are we looking at? (like 1860-1890 WH, 1890-1920 VH, 1920-1930 PH) or should WWI break that up? if ya don't get me give me a week and ill rephrase.....

Hello all, Thanks again to everyone who helped with the Cthulu stuff a bit back. Since then I have formulated an outline for the openign game. My players (my wife and her sister) have decided they wanted to play a sort of Old West Pulp Horror setting. The characters are both female, and interesting set of problems in such a setting in itself. One of them is a sort of con-artist who maquerades as a soiled dove. The other is a lady cowboy, a sort of rough and tumble "I'm as good as the the boys" sort. Anyhow, my idea for the first adventure and how to get them into the mythos is to use the old "mysterious gift" idea with a bit of a twist. The game opens …

Greetings pulpsters, Has anyone GM'd a game or games where the players gained/used a group pool for their experience to pay for group items, such as bases, hirelings, or to purchase things such as group abilities or skills? I'm looking for some advice or maybe some groundrules for offering this up to a group. Jak

I just stumbled across a delightful webcomic set in the 1920's called "The Rainbow Orchid". Here's the description from the website: The artwork is excellent; deliberately reminiscent of Herge's TinTin (which I enjoyed as a kid). This one looks to be a great source of inspiration for Pulp Era adventures as well as entertaining in its own right. Here's the URL: http://www.garenewing.co.uk/rainboworchid/webcomic/stripIndex.php

In the Pulparize It! thread, JakSpade and others came up with the notion of making a Pulp scenario based on the show Friends. It sounded like a fun, light-hearted convention game, so I ran with it. The scenario practically writes itself, and I’ve got the characters maybe 90% done… but I could use a little help with the last 10%. I confess I wasn’t a big fan of the show (I’m not really a sitcom guy), so I was hoping some folks with more familiarity could give me a few ideas. I’m not terribly worried about staying “canon†– just giving them all decent combat skills has obviously required a fair amount of reinvisioning -- but I would like the characters to …

I ran over the Memorial Day weekend which lead to the following moments that stick out in my mind: The party's toughest character, a former Olympic boxer and big game hunter is bailed out of jail by his wife (amazingly, he was not guilty of the crime of beating the four men to death and stuffing them into a closet he was accused of). Once they get home the following conversation ensues: Wife: "Oh! I almost forgot! One of your friends came to see you today - a polite German man, very tall - he waited a little bit, and had some tea, but had to leave. He wanted me to tell you that he'd try and catch back up with you later." Player: "Did he leave a name?" …

There are some seriously strange people at Toy Vault (http://www.toyvault.com) but I think this time they've gone too far. I give you, Cthulhu the superhero: Definately the scariest cross-genre idea (and image) I've ever seen. Still, that's not the most horrifying picture they've got, overall. I'm not talking about Santa Cthulhu: I'm talking about Elvisthulhu! Oh dear sweet god NO! Don't let it be real! Don't let it get me! Above all, DON'T LET IT START SINGING!!

I think it was time for that thread a long time ago. So finally, here ist is: TOPIC - Lost Worlds A,B,C: a) Nobody really missed them. You are the sucker for the lost map, paying hundreds of $ for it to the half-mad Spaniard. c) When you get there you are LOST in no time! d) The Nazis are already there. e) The vulcano is getting active as soon as you get there (was okay for the last couple of 1000 years). f) Everywhere else evolution took care of the REALLY BIG TOOTHY CRITTERS - but not here ... g) All are flesh-eaters. h)Your flesh is the sweetest. j) Where is Doc Savage, The Shadow, The Spider or Indiana Jones when you need them to save your day…

Hey all Thanks to no home internet and new firewalls at work, it\\\\\\\'s been over a year since I was on the boards. And I\\\\\\\'m only here because I\\\\\\\'m using an anonymous surf client to get through! I feel like Tom Cruise in MI and keep expecting to hear the heavy tread of security guards outside my office before I finish typing! So, before I get dragged away, I\\\\\\\'ve been running a Pulp game for about 8 months or so irregularly - well, actually I started running it for one group every month then when they were about 5 adventures in, started running it for a second group every week. I got twice the mileage from the material and it made for some int…

Hi, I am looking for some help and need a bit of a brainstorm to develop a good plot. I am soon going to be running a series of serials based in the early 1800, first year of the campaign is 1812. I have the campaign set out and it starts with them trying to protect and American diplomat. My stumbling block is the 2nd scenario. It has to involve a scientist, professor or Dr who is working on a new design of balloon, but this design will fall into French hands. I need some ideas on how they find out, what is happening and how they resolve it. Ideas so far.. Series of scientist working on same thing are being kidnapped, so players watch the next likely victim…

With the last chapter of his Urban Arcana game wrapped up, a friend of mine in the group is planning to use his freshly-acquired Pulp Hero game for his next GMming outing. Unfortunately, the only kind of pulp I'm really familiar with is the kind that comes in country style orange juice. He mentioned several movies and the like that fit the genre, of which I had (predictably) seen only one (the Shadow), which makes for, shall we say, a small representative sampling of the genre at hand. From what I gather, anything resembling 'powers' tend to be subtle (if not strictly kept to mental abilities, a la mesmerism and the Shadow's 'clouding the minds of men'), though…

Who wants to be a supervillain? On the surface, it sounds like it's looking for regular supervillains, but apparently the goal is to sound pulpish, so I put it here. I'm sure a lot of you have some pretty good ideas to submit.

For a look at materials dating back to the age of the pulps and a bit later, either for reading pleasure of idea mining, take a look at: http://durendal.org:8080/books.html Durendal has a large collection of public domain works (cleared by Project Gurenberg) that includes a growing set of the original Tom Swift series from 1910 through the mid 1930's, updated as the works come into public domain. Other highlights are some early sci-fi by writers like E.E. 'Doc' Smith, John W. Campbell, and more. They have a minimum of page images for all of the works they archive, and provide links to Project Gutenberg e-texts and the few items still in print where ava…
