Can I get an amen from the congregation????

Hopefully the text spammers are next...........

I had two calls from the same number in rapid succession yesterday, the first was automatically blocked by my cell phone, while the second one less than a minute later changed its caller ID to a name, which actually rang my phone using the default ringtone (my contact list is in a group with a different ringtone to let me know). It tripped into voice mail, and I had about 12 seconds of message explaining that I hadn't responded to the (non-existent) email about my warranty yet.

My cell phone service has a free blocker that usually works pretty well, but it will generate a notification for each blocked call. Some robocallers are attempting to flood the system, and I've had one attempt that had over 40 calls placed to my number in less than a minute.

Regal in this area made some very questionable decisions in the last 5 years, including an expensive remodel of several theaters so that they would match the design aesthetic of their European operations. During one of the remodels, a manager took me to a theater that had just finished its remodel, and sat me down in a very stylish seat that the company had imported from Italy. While the seat was beautiful, it was also designed for someone who was much smaller than me. The seat tray was too short, the headrest hit me between the shoulder blades, and there was no lumbar support. His comment was, "Yeah. Just imagine trying to sit for a 2 hour movie." They also cost more than seats sourced locally.

The lobby and the hallways were remodeled with black walls and floors and blue lighted accent stripes at about eye level, and lots of display screens showing movie posters. A video wall greets you as you enter the lobby, and a ribbon of advertising runs above the concession stand.  It's a dark, cold vibe that makes you not want to linger very long.

I never really noticed all that much traffic once they reopened, and the box office itself ended up as an empty box with standing displays in it. Most of the tickets were from phone app or kiosk, and the remaining walk-up business was handled on an occasional basis at one corner of the concession counter. And that was before Covid shut everything down.

Down the road, there's a Cinemark multiplex in another casino. It's a little bit older, and is well-lit, and easily accessible. I've never seen less than three people working the ticket counter, and there's usually a steady stream of traffic. Seats are big and comfortable, with some theaters having full powered recliners. It's a more friendly vibe, and it's the location that usually gets my money.

This was one of the angles why I said Zaslav's strategy of pushing theatrical releases might not work because the theaters might not cooperate...some of em by closing.  Story notes that theater revenues are still down about 1/3 from 2019 levels.  It's just HARD!!! to churn out popular films that often.

Well, if Zaslav wants to get into the theater business I can think of one chain that might be available to buy.

I think regulators may look at that acquisition with a very jaundiced eye.  It's bad enough to have WarnerDiscovery to be as big as it is.

Plus, they're cutting costs in part because they've got such a massive debt problem, from the merger.

This is NOT!!! the time to take on more debt to finance another acquisition, even if the prices look pretty good.  Oh, and the Feds are looking to raise interest rates fairly sharply to try to get inflation down...which will make things worse for Warner.

Referring to DT's note, I hope the paintings end up in museums, even for limited time, kept in private homes and offices. Because art is meant to be enjoyed. It is made to be shared with the world.

I wonder what happened to Allens Experience Music Project and all the artefacts and memorabilia the wjich were displayed there. IOs it even still oper4atingl?
