Opinion: EuroStar

If you were going to introduce a new member to that villian group, what type would it be?

My campaign is about to Have Team Vanguard encounter them once again, and I am looking for a good suprised to add to the team.

The current idea running thru my dome is : Legion-A powerful opponent who can duplicate others at range (allies only)

So in therory he could "legion" Durak (I think thats the right brick) so each member of ES has a body guard.

Any input?

And yes it is a high point campaign.

Re: Opinion: EuroStar

Way back in the day (EUROSTAR was always my favorite Champions villain team), I added a German with cybernetic implants, and armored battle suit, and a gadget pool; and a Gypsy witch (a magic VPP).

If I was adding a member now, I like SS's idea of an amaphibious character, or a superspeedster.

Re: Opinion: EuroStar

The first thing I'd do is up their power levels, cuz they're wimpy as it stands now. Officially, I believe they've added a german brick, and are hinting at producing a 'pantera'. I like the speedster idea as they do seem to be lacking in that area. Make him really nasty with RKA's represented by supersonically hurling sharp objects and such.

Re: Opinion: EuroStar

I'd add an underwater specialist to Eurostar. A European Black Manta type would be pretty useful in Europe. Lots of shoreline and islands, lots of lakes and rivers, Venice...

I like this idea. Maybe an Atlantean who actually enjoyed working with the Axis during WW2 and now lingers on, or the half human child of one of the Atlanteans who did.

Why doesn't DOJ run contests like this? Imagine a "Recruit the Next Member of Eurostar" contest. That would be great!

Anyway, I like the Atlantean idea and I would use that as the backstory for whichever archetype you choose. Such as an Atlantean Duplicator UOO named Frenzy, an Atlantean Speedster named Torpedo, or an Atlantean Water Elemental named Undertow.

Re: Opinion: EuroStar

I'm a bit of a nostalgia nut.

On those grounds, I'd bring back an old 4th ed. villain who has not made it into 5th.

Both The Whip and Pantera fill the light skirmisher/"high Dex, High Speed" niche, so I'd take a good look at both.

Pantera has a bit of a cult of Personality around her, what with the Dex 33 or so and Spd. 7, with those HKAs...

Re: Opinion: EuroStar

Rather than resurrecting Pantera, I'd upgrade Scorpia so she's faster and more agile (perhaps Fiacho has her enhanced with cybernetics similar to his). Her persona and goals fit Eurostar far better than the mindless Panterra. Two mindless killing machines become a liability and not an asset.

What Eurostare really needs is another "Get Outta Dodge!" character like Bora for those occasions they're on the ropes. Perhaps a high-capacity teleporter (such as Tachyon)? Another member would help fill their ranks; the current team is smaller than the 4th Edition version which hurts both their raw combat power and tactical flexibility.

Re: Opinion: EuroStar

After the first couple of times in my local campaign that Bora bailed out Eurostar, my players began targeting her specifically to prevent the escape. So in my campaign Fiacho made teleportation devices (much like the 4th Ed. PSI had) for the entire team so I hadn't thought of another transport character.

Also, even though they have Durak, I would love to see Shamrock in Eurostar with more probability control (from the USPD) powers. A slightly weaker brick with boxing, probability control and an obvious connection to Scorpia seems like a great fit for that team.

Interesting, especially since he's less of a psycho than Scorpia. Or, indeed, any of the other members of the team. Good call.

Actually, I should build a version of Shamrock for myself. A brick with probability powers would be a really neat PC.

Re: Opinion: EuroStar

Well, Pantera was my favorite Eurostar member, so I'd personally bring her back (as well as powering up some of the current members). I like the idea of a speedster and Shamrock. If you have Champions Worldwide, I'd look in there for someone (I, uh, haven't actually finished the first section on European heroes yet :o ).

However, one of Eurostar's most infuriating tactics is the "we're leaving before we're captured" aspect, so another one of these would be great (as a player, I hated it when they fled, but I loved the fact they weren't going to thrash us any more, 'cause it always felt like they were winning, even if we were). Perhaps a teleporting speedster?

Well, the easy fix is to tweak Panterra a little bit.

She's the daughter of a scientist, right?

So what if he managed to splice in all the pseudo-animal capabilities without reducing her to a feral state?

Up her Int, give her a medium-sized Gadget Pool and appropriate skills, and you've got the team's super-scientist...

...who gets absolutely nasty if she decides to let her hair down...

Re: Opinion: EuroStar

Besides the fact that the name "Shamrock" is silly and reminds me more of some guy who walks around mumbling "They're always after me lucky charms!" than a thoroughly evil terrorist, the main problem with the character is that he would have obvious loyalties to Scorpia. If Fiacho is played properly then he should never allow him on the team as it would represent too dangerous a threat to his leadership.

Well, that's certainly an evil thought. :fear:

I do think Eurostar having two psychoticly homicidal clawed villainesses is a bit redundant; so whether one resurrects Pantera or upgrades Scorpia one should definitely go with only one of them (It would certainly be easy enough to bring back Pantera; in a comic-book universe you just know somebody would have cloned her - perhaps even some well meaning superhero trying to find a way to cure her.) Personally I'd opt for using an upgraded Scorpia; but I've never been a big fan of Pantera's and I know many Champions players like her better.

I still think Eurostar needs another member to replace Bora. While they're certainly tough (our team MidGuard fought them back in 2003; but we narrowly won and captured four of them) they are not unbeatable and part of their terror is the fact they always escape. They lose some of their luster as übervillains if one or more members get captured in each fight (After all, you usually don't decide to retreat until one or more of your team members is face down on the ground.). If not Bora, then a teleporter or speedster seems like a likely candidate. Another idea might be to include a gadgeteer with a supervehicle; perhaps a heavily armed and armored flying "tank" with Mach 5 capabilities.

Or they need to up gun a few of the 5th edition characters. I don't like that they "downgraded" the team for 5th edition, and I've already tinkered with a couple of members.

If I can find my old 4th ed. characters (they are stuffed in a notebook somewhere) I'll post the Gypsy witch I had for the group (I can't recall her name though). She was good for teleporting them out, or cuasing distractions long enough for htem to make a get-away. She had decent sized magical VPP, and pretty strong EGO.

Another idea might be to include a gadgeteer with a supervehicle; perhaps a heavily armed and armored flying "tank" with Mach 5 capabilities.

That almost describes my German gedgeteer. He had a high Int, cybernetic implants, a suit of battle armor, and a gadget pool. He usually used it to come up with various devices to disrupt and/or disable heroes powers. (He was one of the main enemies of one of my PC's - PC's character was an Iron Man knock-off).

If i get a chance, I'll kick around a few ideas for a super-speedster, and a possible background story for him/her.

You know, no standard Superhero can smash a 5th Ed Tank...

Re: Opinion: EuroStar

The suggestion for an underwater character leads me to think of the Project: Sunburst victim who looks like a manta ray. He's got no compunctiopn about killing, so he should fit right in, although I think he suffers from the same "not too bright and goes berserk" drawback of Pantera.

Personally I would nominate Szybko, formerly of the now-defunct villain org VOICE. After all, his origin had him come to Eurostar with the suggestion of developing a teleportation system for exactly that purpose. Of course he did this at the direction of VOICE, and betrayed Eurostar as soon as the T-suit was finished and in his hands; but that detail is easy to ignore. He was a crook and European (Pole), which seem to be two of the main criteria for Eurostar membership ;) ; and while no casual killer himself, he had no compunction about working for a group every bit as vicious as Eurostar.

And wouldn't you know it, we have a fine 5E writeup for Szybko right here, courtesy of our own Enforcer84.

Re: Opinion: EuroStar

Tachyon doesn't seem "evil" enough for Eurostar. But I see your point. A Teleporter might work. I also like the Scorpia 2.0 idea :)
That could actually turn into an interesting plot - the villain who wants out of his group after realizing they're all psychos. It might not work with Tachyon, but could be conceivable with a new villain.

For extra fun don't let the PCs know about the new villain's change of heart. Have them encounter him a few times with Eurostar and then vanish. Six months of game time later, up pops a brand new hero!*

*yes, this is blatantly ripped off from Argent/Atom Smasher of Hero Alliance
