I was playing a HERO game back in feb. Was horrible. Overpowered villains, overshadowing NPCs, and we lost our abilities about every game...

 

We were in a canyon in the future that was being patrolled by Anubis warriors. Every character had lost their powers (again) but still had weapons...

 

Except me...

 

See my character, Mercury, was a brick that could turn into a metal, both solid and liquid. Like the T1000, I could make weapons from my body and stretch. But I was a mutant and had no actual weapons except for my fists (was a body builder at least)

 

So we encounter the Anubis warriors and they attack us. She (GM) was hoping to take me down after the last game when, after being fed up with her overpowered demon minions, I brought done the entire temple onto them, protecting my team and stopping her from railroading us into getting captured. The other team members were a samurai with a magic katana, a gadgeteer, a knight, and a healer who, because she was teh GM's friend, never seemed to lose her powers. They swarm after me, me being weak and being unarmed. They all hit me and do enough to put me unconscious and almost kill me with their swords.

 

The healer comes up next and heals me for max stun and body. Im back up and very very angry. So I grab the closest warrior and powerbomb him. Then I piledrive him into the ground and spin toss him. When he gets up dizzy, I kick his stomach and do a

effectively destroying it into dust and ash as it hits the ground. I stand up covered in its ash and intimidate them, saying "Anyone else wants to smell what I'm cooking?"

 

They all ran like sissys, one actually tripping and falling. Everyone just looked at me and said "Daaaaaaaamn son!!! We are not messing with you ever!" Even the samurai was amazed. Course the next game was going to be harder on me but hey, that moment of making undead soldiers of Anubis run in fear was worth anything.

Many years ago, we're playing D&D -- Ravenloft to be precise, which is a gothic horror setting, created as a result of the vampire Strahd von Zarovich's interaction with sentient proto-dimension. Once a character enters Ravenloft, generally speaking there is no escape from it. Ravenloft is split into several realms controlled by a variety of evil masters with powerful personalities.

 

My character is Tatyana Moralani, a peasant girl who was kidnapped by a mad necromancer and experimented on until she became a pseudo-vampire (think a WoD vampire in a D&D setting.) Most of the time, she's a beautiful and sweet girl but fairly useless as an adventurer; she's not especially clever and most of her skills involve things like cooking, sewing, etc. Occasionally, when she's backed into a corner or in a blood frenzy, she becomes the group's most lethal combat monster.

 

One of the other players is bringing in a were-weasel character, after his previous centaur shaman died or was retired. Most of the character's personality is based around being a blatantly and stereotypically gay man. He plans to call the character Serge. The GM convinces him to name the character Sergei instead as being more appropriate for the setting, which is largely eastern-european-inspired at this point in the game.

 

During the next couple gaming sessions, as Sergei joins the rest of the group, he starts to find something fascinating about Tatyana. Despite the fact that he is normally uninterested in women, he begins to find Tatyana to be strangely attractive. He also starts having peculiar dreams at night, often also involving Tatyana. For her part, Tatyana reciprocates the attraction.

 

Then one day, as the group is drawn through Ravenloft into Strahd's personal domain, Sergei realizes the truth. He and Tatyana are drawn to each other not because of anything physical between them, but because their souls are connected. They are two sides in a love triangle. Tatyana was once, in a past life, married to a powerful man, and Sergei was in that past life that man's brother, who betrayed him for love of the man's wife. They are doomed to be reborn again and again as part of that powerful man's eternal torture for his evil. The powerful man in question, being Strahd von Zarovich, master of Ravenloft. Tatyana was once Tatyana von Zarovich, and Sergei was once Sergei von Zarovich.

 

As soon as the GM dropped this bomb on him in private (I'd helped come up with the plotline and already knew), Sergei's player's face paled and his jaw dropped. His first words: 'You b#$%h!" Visibly shell-shocked, he returned with the us, back into the room with the rest of the players. He managed to squeak out 'Help me!', and when the rest of the group asked 'How?', his response: 'I don't know!"

 

Not a good feeling when you're just an average mid-level D&D character, and you learn that you're doomed to draw the personal ire of the single most powerful bad guy in the entire dimension...

I was running a short-lived fantasy superhero campaign. One of the villains rolled maximum STUN with a relatively weak RKA and one-shotted a PC. I'm glad the STUN lotto is being fixed.

We've got a different word for it at my place.

 

One classic example, however, was when Our Heroes were about to storm the castle of the campaign's big baddie. Well, our opening tactic was going to be sending the party's two Clerics and another support character on ahead into the castle, and then hitting it with a tidal wave. Thanks to an Ethereal Jaunt spell, we'd planned on being ethereal when the wave hit. Well, that all worked out.

 

Then the GM started modifying his map for the damage to the wall from the tidal wave.

 

Including the section we were supposed to rematerialize on top of. Being the only one not too busy congratulating ourselves on our cleverness, I notice this.

I have two, one as a DM, one as a player.

 

The DM one is mostly just a strange case of luck. My friend, who is on these boards as greenbriar, was playing a swashbuckly sort in a Fantasy Hero game (4e). For some reason I will never understand, the universe decided that any hammer swung in his direction would invariably hit him the 'location 13'.

 

I've told this story before, but there was a small local con where people brought their own characters. Three or four of the characters were played by the 'high school twink club'. One of them had an Area Effect (or was it Explosive?) Killing Attack Damage Shield. He *thought* that would give him an 'aura', but that's a different construction. Instead, it meant that every time someone came in contact with him, he exploded.

 

So, one of the first things that happens in the ensuing battle is someone gets knocked back into him. *boom* It was at this point that we realized that nobody in the High School Twink Club had purchased Resistant Defenses. Explosion Man had also failed to purchase Personal Immunity, meaning that before Segment 2, the PC team was, almost literally, half dead.

 

I was quite happy I was playing a long-distance character, as it meant I wasn't clustered up with all the bruisers who got caught in the Big Bang. But once I realized all the implications of the Damage Shield, I definitely went Oh Feces ... and sure enough, the next knockback sent Explosion Man into a crowd of normals.

Me either, but it was a 'BYOC' one-shot. Most of the other characters were just as screwed up somehow, just not quite so ... dramatically. I recall one character was literally all focussed (including his skills and every point of his stats; he bought his primaries down to 0 then back up), and every single power and attribute was through a different focus. Rebel seemed Unfazed.

 

Adamas took No BODY, but 59 STUN. Leaving Adamas with very Stunned with 1 STUN and Rebel's hand around his throat. He then tossed Adamas's 3,200kg body several hundred feet out into the harbor.

Not trying to be contrary, but stating that you've used the term more than once doesn't really help define it for someone who doesn't understand what you mean. Granted, in the context of its first use the meaning seems does seem at least somewhat evident. And like I said, they can always look it up.

The problem I'm seeing here is that the word "Twink" has multiple definitions. I know of three.

 

1. Adjusting a computer or other piece of electronics to maximum performance, sometimes to the detriment of long term use.

 

2. Adjusting a Player Character for maximum combat ability, usually to the detriment of roleplay/noncombat ability. See Munchkin, or Power Gamer.

 

3. A type of man on man gay sex.

 

Now, if you google the word "Twink", using the words "High School Twink Club", guess what 90%+ of the web sites are going to be talking about?

It was a snarky attempt to point out that the poster who suggested a google search to define the phrase hadn't actually done so and didn't know it was a crap response. "Google" was crappy response, so I gave a crappy response back.

 

Needless to say 100 word to explanation of a 1 word "joke" kind implies I failed to get my point across.

D&D 3.5 game, Epic Level. Almost all-evil party (no good, only neutrals and evils), we'd traveled to many different planes (including alternate Primes/different campaign settings, and a few "omniversal monitoring stations" that could access other multiverses, like the DC and Marvel Universes and anything tangentially tied to them), and the characters were starting to get a bit bored. At one point, we decided to see just how destructive they could be.

 

Rogue/Assassin took to assassinating entire cities, usually in the space of one night due to his numerous shadow powers.

 

Big Bad Sorcerer rained fire down on cities, killing hundreds of thousands at a time.

 

Bard/Necromancer introduced a new type of vampire to one world, one which fed on blood and sex. These, along with subtle political maneuverings, caused city after city to fall into decadence and then destruction.

 

Then there was my character, a Doppelganger Psion who through assorted feats and prestige classes could gain all the supernatural and extraordinary abilities of any creature he could turn into (usually you only get some extraordinary and no supernatural abilities). He was actually the least murderous of the party, so he elected to go last.

Beforehand, I had asked if, since the DC Comics Universe was one we'd been able to access, and since the Omniversal Monitoring Stations could access any tangentially-linked dimension, if that meant they could be used to access any Warner Bros. movie or film. Since this included lots of useful things, the GM said "sure." My shapeshifter had spent some time studying alternate worlds/dimensions, in order to discover new things to turn into.

When his time came, he had the sorcerer open a portal to the Elemental Plane of Water, which he then entered.

And then he turned into a Gremlin.

The Elemental Plane of Water soon became the Elemental Plane of Gremlins. Any time someone cast "Create Water," they got Gremlins; Decanters of Endless Water became Decanters of Endless Gremlins. All the worlds sand planets connected to that Elemental Plane soon ended by drought and uncontrolled fires and chaos, in part b/c firefighters now no longer had their magical water-creating items, and in part b/c some world's oceans were fed by natural portals to the Elemental Plane of Water, which were now spewing out Gremlins. Well, all except that cosmos' Elemental Plane of Fire, they pretty much ruled everything.

 

We quickly left that campaign setting. (I think it had been Toril/Forgotten Realms.)
