Christopher R Taylor
Its all fun and games until you slice your eye white with the feathers of an arrow.
tkdguy
I've lost 3 favorite characters (2 MERP, 1 AD&D) to those crit charts. Still, it's a good way to go out. But you will NEVER live down stumbling over that imaginary deceased turtle!
Ninja-Bear
Plumbers? Under type of player characters. Plumbers like to plumb the depths of their characters. They explore what makes a character tick however the down side is that they invest so much in the characters that they don't want to see any real harm come to them. And this bunch takes stuff done to their characters kinda personal.
tkdguy
That's no good. I've gotten hot under the collar when bad stuff happens to my character, but usually when the GM or another player is being a jerk for no reason. Character injury and death happen, and I don't mind a character dying, especially in a heroic way. If someone can't handle the thought of his character dying or getting hurt, write a story instead of playing a game.
Vondy
Bad dice happen. Some systems make bad dice happen more often. Rolemaster is such a system.
tkdguy
I've had my share of good dice as well in Rolemaster.
NuSoardGraphite
Rolemaster has a plethora of magical items which are good to convert to Hero. The Creatures and Treasures series has plenty to populate your campaigns for years. Items such as The Hammer of Relin (a +77 war hammer which can be thrown up to 7 miles and returns to the weilders hand) and The Black Heart (a power point multiplier for necromancers which replaces the users heart. If they are killed while the heart is implanted they are raised as a Lich). If one can get ahold of a copy, I highly recommend checking it out for ideas for magic items. tkdguy
I have Creatures & Treasures. Perhaps I'll take another look at it soon.
L. Marcus
I have the GM's Law for RMSS. It had some fine tips for world building.
mhd
C&T also had the vorpal bunny, IIRC.
tkdguy
Vorpal bunny and IIRC vampire bunny. I used both in a scenario, and the players hated me for it.

Burrito Boy
I have Creatures and Treasures and Creatures and Treasures II. I'm pretty sure they're both available on DriveThru RPG. Along with Creatures and Treasures III, which I still need to get. Love those books and have been meaning to convert certain monsters to Hero for years. Christopher R Taylor
there was a site somewhere that had all the modules available for download for MERP. Not sure if its still around. tons of info and ideas in those. The MERP stuff was really well done in my opinion.
tkdguy
merp.com may still be active. I haven't visited it in a long time, and it was pretty quiet when I last went there.
drunkonduty
C&T also had the flying, vampiric were-kraken. That was when I gave up on chart master.
Lucius
C&T also had the flying, vampiric were-kraken. That was when I gave up on chart master. Somebody was smoking kraken Lucius Alexander Of course, that's the opinion of a guy who regularly rides a palindromedary....
mhd
They did most of the common monstrosities and races in C&T, so they had to come up with new oddities for C&T II. And game designers who don't steal but try to actually invent something new is something that usually doesn't end well.
NuSoardGraphite
C&T also had the flying, vampiric were-kraken. That was when I gave up on chart master. I dont remember that creature. I'll have to look it up.

womble
RM's his healing paradigm was quite original for a RPG community used to Clerics being both healer and utility caster. The sheer variety of ists you needed to learn meant you'd probably have to be a specialist healer, and the Transferral Ways (take the wounds onto yourself and have lots of "cast while unconscious" cures to fix all the broken bits was... novel. RM (like the (prestige) class proliferation of D&D) is its own argument against class-based systems: all those hybrid classes just so people can play the character they want to... Why not use a classless system like BRP or Hero and build your character the way you want it?
tkdguy
I'm okay running RM with just the base classes, although I have some of the Companion rules. MERP 2nd Edition added a few optional classes, so you can use it if you prefer a lighter game. I have played a couple of MERP games the last couple of days. Mainly just combat, since they were solo games. But I can always run a game for my friends next time I see them, although I've been thinking of running the Stormbringer rpg as well.
