Their lives do not revolve around Superman even though he could kill them all by snapping his fingers. They think about Superman like we think about the Sun. Vastly powerful, necessary for our survival, but taken for granted as something that’s just there. Usually we have more immediate concerns than the presence of the Sun, because the Sun is always there whether we think about it or not.
