Cancer
Having been a program head, and narrowly missed duty as department head quite recently, I think condolences are more in order. OTOH, you may be in position to silently introduce new special topics courses. Cancer
True story: Back in grad school, one colleague defended his thesis successfully. In acknowledgement of this, he put a tiny note (fortune cookie fortune size!) on the board outside his shared office door. It said: "That's Doctor A*****e to you, buddy!" Pariah
Thank you. I didn't get to do the walk (although I will have the opportunity to do so in December), but having the paper gives me a little bit of closure, anyway.
Pariah
In short, this quarter has magnified all the things I hate find annoying about teaching--lesson planning, grading papers, meetings, answering e-mail complaints from parents, and so forth--while effectively eliminating the things I love about teaching, namely, my daily interactions with students and other teachers. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this quarter an F.
Cancer
Yeah, this quarter, for the first time, I find myself looking forward to retirement. That was probably no more than two years off anyway, though depending on how the retirement accounts have been doing -- no, I don't have the guts to look more than once or twice a year -- I am not committing myself to anything at this point. Old Man
I definitely wouldn't look at your retirement accounts right now. I moved my IRAs into bonds about three weeks ago after the dead-cat bounce; between the covid and the election I figured I'd just have my retirement sit out 2020. Badger
Well, speaking for my high school graduation way back in the day. I went to it, for my mother's sake, I was all too happy knowing I wouldn't have to deal with 90%+ of those jack@sses ever again. if the coronavirus had hit in 1994, ending my senior year 3 months early. I would have been so happy and relieved, I am afraid.
