But now I had to go buy a new remote so that I can turn up the brightness and actually see what the heck I'm watching.  So now I get to wait two days to get a remote so I can rewatch a show I just watched and maybe this time have some frigging clue what the frig is happening on this frigging show.

Got my new remote, was able to adjust the settings on my TV, totally fixed the problem.  Rewatching The Mandolorian, so many details suddenly apparent.  Makes the show even better.

So far I'm holding strong with just Netflix and Amazon Prime. I may break down and get the Disney + service when the Falcon & Winter Soldier series releases, and/or CBS All Access for Picard, depending on how much of a headache setting everything up would be. The DC service has yet to really tempt me—I'd like to see Doom Patrol and Titans, but not enough to be worth signing up for yet another subscription when I've got tons of stuff backed up on the ones I already have. And I have Man of Steel and Wonder Woman on blu-ray, those being the only DCEU must-sees for me.

I can't wait for Disney to buy Warner Brothers so I can stream Babylon 5 again.

I worry about Disney gaining a monopoly on the multiplex, and their brass being able to prevent other companies from making movies. Even now, it would be trivial for Disney to force the shutdown of Laika (the stop-motion studio in the Portland suburb of HIllsboro) by choking off their distribution channel. (That might actually have happened to Missing Link, the best 2019 animated feature nobody saw).

Talking with the theater manager at the multiplex in the casino where I work, Disney movies represented 40% of the business they did last year, which appears to match the domestic percentage for Disney from various reports. Internationally, it's not even close. Disney/Fox had 51.54% (42.96% before adding in Fox). The next highest was Warner, with 16.65%. https://deadline.com/2020/01/highest-grossing-movie-studios-2019-record-international-global-box-office-market-share-chart-analysis-2020-forecast-1202823471/

Laika has a different issue. Every movie after Coraline has made progressively less and less back in theatrical showings. I'll admit, the trailer for Missing Link didn't do much for me, and I mentally filed it to "maybe watch if it hits one of my streaming services."

I am sad that more people didn't see Kubo and the Two Strings on the big screen.  That film is a thing of beauty.
