Yes!  Very similar to how I make character sheets for convention games; effects are on the sheet, I have the build in case it becomes relevant.  I ran "Nazi Death Zombies of the Congo!" this way.  What the player cares about the elephant rifle:  It hits *hard*.  Accurate at long range. Two shots, then takes time to reload.  So make those shots count.

Actually yes it did.  It was one of the things that I liked about CC.

Spence reacted to Lord Liaden in What's fairy tale-style magic?
Brangomar, aka the Shadow Queen, most recently written up Champions Villains Volume One: Master Villains, is essentially Disney's Maleficent (the classic animated version from Sleeping Beauty, not live action); except that instead of being a dark faerie queen who can transform into a dragon, Brangomar is a dragon using magic to appear as a human-like woman. Her personality and style are very much like Maleficent, and like the evil Queen in Disney's Snow White. Brangomar rules a land called the Shadow Realm in the dimension of Faerie, that being the sum of all the lands, races, creatures, and gods from human myth and legend. The Shadow Queen is also a powerful sorceress in the aforementioned "fairy-tale" magic style.

RIP indeed. I'd also look at "Streets of Fire", an under rated but cult movie yhat has his finger prints all over it.

I enjoyed BESM and was very disappointed when they ended right upon release of their 3rd Edition.  I liked and played 2nd but never had a chance to actually play 3rd.  We were heavy into Champions and so I never really tried Silver Age Sentinals.   They released BESM 4e a few years ago, but I have not actually tried it either.

I always considered Tri-Stat as a rules light system.  About as light as I can enjoy.

That must have been when Simon had announced that they were going to be migrating to the current website and that a significant amount of the downloads in the old site would probably not make the migration.  I was out of work at the time and so I would download what I could and upload it onto the new system during the short time that both sites were accessible.  It was a LOT of stuff and I don;t think I really made too much of a dent.

But yes, it is always good to have the files available, especially for players trying to get a better understanding of the system.

I like this idea.  I'd suggest only putting the Talent descriptions and the critical "how this actually works in play" information in the main part of the book.  The "under the hood" details of how the Talent was constructed from other Powers and such, I would put in an appendix at the back of the book (or maybe even put it in a free PDF download for folks who are interested, and don't put it in the book itself at all).

That is actually a great idea and one that would be useful, not only for experienced players but new ones as well.

While they achieved their objective in sanitizing everything down to the lowest possible building block, such as Secret ID being a social complication.  They forget that it is easier for players to just call it Secret ID.

Not precisely the same thing as your thought, but close enough for this thread.

A book of "Talent" builds would be extremely useful for people who just want to play today and get into esoteric build theory later.

One of the reasons I stopped reading comics in the early 90s.

Not only the lack of story, but if someone did accidentally inject a plot it would be overshadowed by the grim blood splat.  Even the "heroes" were heroes in name only as they killed maimed and destroyed with the best of them.

Every once in awhile I'll take a look at comics and maybe one day I'll see a super-powered HERO again...

Bottom line, between 4E and 5E I have more villains, NPCs, monsters, gadgets, weapons, spells, optional rules than I could ever possibly need. I wouldn't mind more in the way of adventures and maps, but 4E did better with that than 5E, and 3E and earlier adventures aren't hard to adapt, so I'm not hurting.

TA in particular could really benefit from both, regarding specific locales in the world.

And that was the result with the *good* actors...

I still think Hayden Christensen's Anakin was one of the most cringeworthy performances of a major character in a major movie I've ever been unfortunate enough to watch.

Didn't miss much.  If you watch it as a loose collection of super-powered people doing super-powered things it amy be sorta OK.  As a movie it kinda lacked story, plot and any real chemistry.
It was basically a bunch of scenes created by someone with no idea of who the characters were supposed to be, just showcasing the "powers".
So while individual actors may have done a good or even great job with their individual scene, as a whole it was just a mess.

I actually liked Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and most of all Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.  It is a display of magnificent skill (negative skill) that the director was able to turn a movie starring such a talented cast into a hot steaming mess of crap.

I thought the Star Wars prequels were bad when Lucasfilm took so many fantastic actors and turned them into things with the acting and emotional properties of card board cutouts.

I was really pissed since it really lowers the probability of more Wonder Woman or Aquaman movies.

I heartily agree. I prefer 5E myself, although I borrow a few elements I like from 6E, and from 4E. I also have a huge whack of stuff for 4E, and the differences between 4E and 5E are so few and relatively minor, it's easy to use material written for either of them with the other, with almost no changes.

Early on, the Image guys were mostly doing traditional comics at Marvel and broke out on their own to keep all the money they were making for others.

It's hard to remember now, but back in the day what Liefield was doing on Spiderman and X-Men was so different than what everyone had been doing before that it was really exciting to 14 year olds in the early 90s.  I was never a huge fan, but *so* many of by buddies were.  I knew one Spider-phile who at the time *loved* Spiderman under Liefield. He loved that the super humanly agile character was much more of a contortionist & many fans felt his yards and yards of webbing everywhere made comics before Liefield got on board seem pretty staid visually.  I had to admit that it made sense to give Supermodel Mary Jane Watson a non 70s haircut.

They were part of the big 90s comic bubble, and I don't think it's unfair to say the "fresh look" of the art combined with improved printing made the comics of the time feel like they were something different than what came before.  After the Image guys formed their own company for a while they just got *bigger*.

Personally, I think it was a classic example of fooling all the people some of the time.  They were kings of the world until Image started missing deadlines more than it hit them and people started to notice that so much of what was happening in the new comics was just art with no story.  Turns out just making splash pages with baddass assassin heroes only works for so long.  Eventually you need a plot.

No I mean in Hero 5thR.  And 4th and 3rd and........

I gave up on 6th.  Too many things sterilized on the alter of...... well I have no idea.

5thR is not perfect, but it is the only version pre-change that I have enough hard copies to lend to players.
    So 5thR it is.

TA is also 5th so no changes/conversion necessary.

How were you able to pick him out of so many bad performances.  I had actually wondered why with so many big names they were not able to bury it unseen.  John Wayne buried the Genghis Khan movie until he died.  I am surprised the cast of the prequels didn't do the same.  Then again, the prequels actually look good compared to some of the SW stuff planned for the near future.

So the upcoming episode of Explain This, "Hawkman," will be double-sized at 86 minutes. We originally planned to cut it in two but decided it was such a clusterf*ck that listeners should be able to just rewind when we're like "And then Fel Andar reappears in the story..." Wait, which dumb idea was he again? So, you're welcome, comics fans!! dw

Yep, I have a few of the original comics I bought when they first came out and it was not a kiddy show.
I don't really follow them anymore since the focus changed.  If I want Loony Tunes I'll watch Loony Tunes (the original cuts, not the "sanitized" versions they show now).

Hey, all y'all Champions players! I've got three new mini-supplements available at the Hero Games Online Store. Each of them expands on CHAMPIONS POWERS to offer an new category of powers. They are:   Aquatic Powers, which features nearly four dozen powers for characters who live in or often work underwater. Whether your character is a native of Atlantis, a water manipulator, or has powers derived from a marine animal, Aquatic Powers has just the powers you need to create him!   Hard Energy Powers let a character create energy constructs with sufficient solidity and stability to function like physical objects. Since the character can create a practically infinite variety of hard energy items based on his imagination and the perceived needs of the moment, he has far more power at his fingertips than the owner of any merely physical arsenal. Get plenty of ideas of powers such characters have in Hard Energy Powers!   Super-Magic Powers presents powers for use in creating super-mage characters who don’t use the Super-Thaumaturgy spells found in The HERO System Grimoire. Instead, these characters have powers that follow a distinct magical tradition — such as Alchemy, Black Magic, or Witchcraft — or which hide behind a veneer of Stage Magic. Super-Magic Powers provides dozens of example powers to help you build these characters.   Please check 'em out and pick yourself up a copy!

If those three aren't enough, please take a look at my PDFs of Control Powers and Insect Powers, which are still available -- and be on the lookout for more PDFs containing even more additions to Champions Powers!
