OK, I finally had time to get back to this. Sorry for the delay!

    1. I’m not sure I understand this question. How would having an Uncontrolled CE power (that affects electronic devices) interact at all with a Multipower of magnetic blasts? Are you saying you think the CE should affect some (or all) of the magnetic blasts, thus reducing them in effectiveness?

    2. Again, not entirely sure I understand what you want to know. CE is a Constant Power, so the CE part of the bubble remains in effect as long as Bipolar pays END to maintain it. If he doesn’t, it stops working. If (as I suspect) you want the CE to last as long as the Entangle, you definitely need Uncontrolled (or some other game element that synchs it up with the Entangle).

    3. Assuming the GM allows Bipolar to have a 0 END Uncontrolled power, this form of the power is certainly likely to last longer, and without any need for Bipolar to focus on it. Otherwise, again I’m not entirely sure I understand what you’re asking — what do you think should happen?

    4. A Damage Shield already has to be bought with Constant. If Bipolar makes it Uncontrolled, then Uncontrolled’s effects apply:  the feeds the DS a set amount of END, and when that END runs out the DS stops working.

    5. Well, again, I can’t say much other than:  if Bipolar makes it Uncontrolled, then Uncontrolled’s effects apply:  the feeds the Barrier (or Blast) a set amount of END, and when that END runs out the Barrier (and all associated effects) (or Blast) stops working.

As an aside, I’m not sure Blast, Constant, AoE, Explosion is what you want. If you want anyone touching the Barrier to suffer the effects of the Blast, then buy it as a Damage Shield that covers the Barrier, or as an Area Of Effect (Line) that’s Linked to the Barrier.

I hope those answers help! I’m guessing that I didn’t entirely follow your assumptions and what you were really asking, so one or more follow-up questions will probably be necessary. If you post them, it might help if you explain (1) what exactly you want the power to do, and (2) what you think will happen if you apply Uncontrolled (or whatever). Thanx!

Christougher reacted to RDU Neil in Limitations 2: The singling.
I was thinking about something similar, in that "only the largest Limitation counts"... in that an OAF, Charges, Beam attack... well, all that fall into the -1 for OAF, since the other limitations are of lesser value. It has its own problems.

What you are recommending it something closer to what Ron is talking about in Champions Now as well... essentially "pick the limitation that really reflects how this power plays out, and that you want to actually come up in play.

The big difference in thought process around limitation is "1. They are rules used to simulate some real world/pre-determined manifestation." vs. "2. They are story elements used to invite drama into the narrative."  The first one has the downstream effect of trying micro-deconstruct every aspect of a power/ability, either toward obsessive but abstract simulationist puritanism, and/or limitation stacking for point savings.  The second one has the downstream effect of removing a lot of detail and crunch that certain people like, and can, when done well, add variation and significance to play.

I used to argue that Hero was two games. The Character Creation game... usually a mental game of creative "what if" to plumb what "technically" could be done with the rules, in a vacuum.  Then there is the "Actual Play" Game at the table, with dice rolled and stories told... and that they are different games, often at odds with each other. Ron specifically states in Champs Now that the first game should not exist, it is not the point, keep PCs simple and get to the table and start rolling dice. Let them develop "in play."

There are some fundamental "philosophy of gaming" issues going on here, which makes these questions difficult to answer.

Inspired by my initial thought of what RDU Neil's thread was about and something that was touched on by several in that thread.

Stacking limitations has its issues - too much bang for the buck, it it really worth that much, clutter on the sheet, etc.  I'd like to open this discussion in a different vein than the previous one and not muddy those waters.

I'm not suggesting reducing limitations to one; the book's limitations are fine, but you're only allowed to use (or get points from) one limitation per power.

You always had to build it.

In 4E, Damage Shield was a +1/2 Advantage on an attack power.

In 5E, Damage Shield was a +1/2 Advantage on an attack power.  By RAW, you usually had to add the +1 Continuous Advantage, but a lot of people didn't agree.

In 6E,Area of Effect Personal Surface was a +1/4 advantage on an attack power.

Basic Sight: Discriminatory enough to individually id people.  However, this level of discriminatory is inherently inconsistent.  A witness might not be able to id a person from a set of similar looking people.  A person looking at two twins might not be able to tell the twins apart.
Sight with Discriminatory: Their sight sees enough differences to prevent mistakes just basic sight might mess up.  They would be able to distinguish between two similar looking people (i.e. identitcal twins).  It might be able to infer traits based on the details.  Ex: Twin #1 has been around some type of fire since ash is seen on their jacket.
Sight with Analysis: Their sight sees more than just differences; it can detail enough to give accurate insight into traits.  Ex: Twin #1 has been around an open paper fire.  The ash on his jacket could be from cigarette ash, but the texture and consistency of the ash is more inline with paper burning.

I would say 'No', because a normal damage attack already does Body damage, with or without Penetrating.  Does Body only allows attacks that normally deal no Body damage to do so.

So the question becomes, What are you trying to accomplish by adding Does Body?  If you're looking to make a Normal Damage attack do Penetrating Body instead of Penetrating Stun, that won't do.  You'll need to use a Killing Attack with Penetrating to do Penetrating Body.

I think the first question to ask is not the dice mechanism but what role you want killing attacks to accomplish.  What is their role mechanically?

I think the original role was to cause BODY damage, possibly more focussed on inanimate objects like walls and robots than people, though the name does not imply this...

I am not sure there is a need for an attack that kills more easily, that inflicts increased amounts of BODY damage to characters as an inherent ability, such things can be accomplished by other means.

Your suggestion accepts the need for a killing attack but I question even that.  Should we have a more efficient way of inflicting BODY, possibly for busting people out if jails and entangles?  Very possibly, but could that be through applying advantages or manoeuvres to existing damage? I think so.

I will apply myself to your question but I ask you to take a step back and ask yourself whether you actually need a killing attack at all?

Christougher reacted to Lord Liaden in Hero Games former website freebies
Up until a few years ago, the Hero Games website hosted a wide variety of book excerpts, supplements, and game aids for free download. However, with the most recent website upgrade, most of those items were considered not resource cost-effective to maintain, and were discarded. As a result most new Hero gamers are unaware they ever existed; and even some of the veterans may have missed the treasures they contained, or have since lost something from the collection they once had.

However, thanks to the magnificent Internet Archive Wayback Machine, virtually all those items are still obtainable if one knows where to look and what to look for. But since many people don't know, I thought it would be helpful to provide links to representative archived pages.

These downloads cover many areas: maps (from published books or supplementary), book excerpts and introductions (including supplementary info about the published official settings), wallpapers, color covers to PDF books, character sheets and hex maps, items cut from books for space (including supplementary forms mentioned in various books), adventure modules, character outlines for illustrations (under "Character Sheets and Hex Maps" for some reason), illos for cardboard mini figures, apps and utilities, graphics and sounds, and more. Many of these were generously created by Hero fans.

Because the website has gone through several revisions over the years since DOJ bought the Champions IP, and each version has made changes to the downloads it hosted, I'm including links to Free Stuff pages from different years to cover as many of the varied offerings as possible.

NOTE: Sometimes a file linked to on one of those pages would not actually have been saved on the particular day that page was crawled by Internet Archive. At the top of each page you'll see a graphic representing how many times the page was crawled on various dates. Clicking on that to get to another date will bring up another page, on which the item you want may have been saved.

I recommend exploring. There's much there to enjoy.
