  2. Re: World War Two Campaign Well, you said "the Golden Age superheroes", so I assume you mean a campaign where the players actually use the classics. In which case, I think it boils down to whether or not you want to heroes to be active on the war front or not. The difference between an All-Star Squadron or Invaders-like game. In other words, whether the players protect the home countries from invasion and spies, or whether they engage in sabotage or direct attacks on Axis forces, or possibly both. Power levels become pretty important in that case, and the GM'll need to know what kind of game he or she wants to run first.
  3. Re: Vhan Invasion Force.... I'd go with "as big as you need it to be". A typical invasion scenario would assume that V'han's agents have done the intelligence work and she knows what the world's defenses are. If the superheroes are public and potentially the biggest threat in your mind, she may launch special units to take them out first.
  4. Re: Super Villian Showdown! In a fight between the three of them, I'd see V'han teaming up with Mechanon to finish off Destroyer (who I think she'd consider the greater threat) and then hoping to keep enough power in reserve to destroy or fend off the current Mechanon body and get away to fight another day. But that's how I'd write it.
  5. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? As part of the Dark Knight Rises promotions, Best Buy was selling part one and two of Season 1 and part one of Season 2 of Batman: Brave and the Bold for $5 each. I snagged copies, and just finished disc one of part one.
  6. Re: Classic Super Hero Teams I don't believe kryptonite existed at that point. Yes, heroes tended to stay on the home front, with some exceptions. I don't know this for sure, but it may have been a conscious decision on the part of the comic companies during the war. Conscious or not, it keeps the focus and credit where it belongs - on the military.
  7. Re: Master of Crime His stats are in 4th Ed Dark Champions.
  8. Re: Classic Super Hero Teams Oh, by the first JLA appearance we're not up to the point where the Camp fad hit comics. There's way sillier to come. Anyway, we're also talking about a point where the CCA still had some teeth, so doing anything super-scary wasn't likely.
  9. Re: Classic Super Hero Teams Before superheroes came back, both DC and what would be Marvel put out sci-fi comics (amongst other things). Many of those comics featured giant monsters and alien invasions as common story fodder. So it makes sense that they would draw from that for some early stories.
  10. Re: The cranky thread First, and most importantly, get well soon. Second, yeah it's definitely the browser. I switched to Google Chrome and things are working fine now. Turns out IE wasn't even showing me the "days remaining" on a project, and that had been for a while. I've had two return mails from Kickstarter folks asking for more info, so it looks like they're taking seriously now at least. Third, this is the cranky thread, and therefore I must rail against whatever forces decided that the post office should deliver several of last month's bills late.
  11. Re: Fantasy worlds you had to "rework" years later once you've grown up and knew bett When I first started gaming, most of the players and GMs I knew didn't care about whether or not the fantasy world made sense. We just wanted to play, and we just wanted to have fun. *Everything* was whack, and we didn't care.
  12. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares A California town falls victim to a mysterious attack by folk-rockers in: Alfred Hitchcock's The Byrds
  13. Re: Why Your Heroes Shouldn't Kill I'm only aware of the late '70s animated series.
  14. Re: Why Your Heroes Shouldn't Kill For me, and I think a few of the GMs I played with, it came to how the players reacted to the villains. If in the course of roleplaying a villain really got under one or more players' skins, I made sure to bring that villain back. If a villain made a strong impression in general on the players, whether the powers or how he or she was played, that villain generally made a return. That kind of thing.
  15. Re: Classic Super Hero Teams Most of the initial Justice Society cases involved the team learning of a threat together, handling aspects of it in solo arcs, and then coming together at the end to defeat the menace. As page counts shrank post-WW2, they would break into teams of two or three instead.
  16. Re: Weather Powers??? It is, yeah. It's also the title of the first Alex Rider book. Hasn't been used as a name for a published character as far as I know. And I agree with Golden Age that it sounds cool.
  17. Re: Go vote for the ENnies! Not yet. I'm not familiar enough with some of the games to feel informed. Looking into them, though.
  18. Re: Go vote for the ENnies! Pedantic, perhaps, but the 29th is a Sunday. (Checked the site, and the 29th is the last day to vote.)
  19. Re: [New Product] Champions Complete It sounds very promising, and looks to address several issues mentioned on the board, at least. Speaking selfishly, if it does well, it could help spark interest in plenty of other products, like the upcoming Golden Age Champions Kickstarter.
  20. Re: The Good and Bad about Marvel and DC You can't rub "Major Marvel" in DC's face.
  21. Re: Classic Super Hero Teams Yeah, I believe that happened in the Secret Society of Super-Villains comic, which was going through a "Captain Comet team up" phase. The closest he ever came to making the team was a late-70s fan poll to pick the next member. DC thought he was a lock initially but he came in second to Zatanna, who had been offscreen for a while.
  22. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares A bizarre time-travel experience triplicates America's most successful pop act of the '60s. Can they save the future? Find out in....12 Monkees
  23. Re: Why Your Heroes Shouldn't Kill What also makes the action "heroic" is the colossal risk involved in accomplishing the mission. If the X-Wings had been drones, one might get a different impression. And yes, you can draw a parallel between the Death Star and Dr. Destroyer. But we started out by talking about the Ultimates, who do not hold up to parallels drawn to either, and (unless I'm mistaken) you didn't seem to have an issue with them being blown away while unconscious either. Which is fine; that's your opinion, and I'm glad you're expressing it freely here.
