I don't know how many people here are prone to order custom miniatures online, but the design software for Hero Forge fanally offers a set of mechanical wings. Not the style I would have chosen for a first offering but acceptable.

It would depend on your players and how they designed their characters but a scenario villain might be interesting.

Here's the villain.  Johnny is a little 4 year old kid.  Unfortunately, he's a timid kid who has lived through some pretty f***'d up s#!+.  He's afraid of the dark and easily afraid of violence (3 Pre).  He has this power where his id manifests monsters to stop anything and everything he's afraid of.  The monsters don't go away after he summons them and he's afraid of his own monsters.  After the monsters stop whatever is frightening Johnny, they act like monsters would expect to act.

    1) If players are fighting monsters or villains near Johnny, this scares Johnny into accidentally summoning more monsters.
    2) If players kill or hurt Johnny, this is easily a public relations nightmare as Johnny seems to a simple innocent.
    3) If players hurt Johnny, as soon as he wakes up, monstrous versions of their greatest foes come back to attack them.
    4) If Johnny is isolated, monsters which kidnap people will kidnap people to keep Johnny happy.  He's afraid of being alone.

The best way to help Johnny is to isolate him from what's causing him fear and then treating him in a healthy happy environment until his psyche heals and solidifies, but I figure most players design their characters as straight forward combat monsters or mystery solving skill twids.  In 30 years of gaming, I've only seen two PCs who can easily handle Johnny with skills.

Brad stood in front of the painting of Nightwing, glass in one hand, the other shoved into his trouser pocket, thumb hooked on the outside. It took a few moments before he realized Emily was standing beside him.

“Mrs. Deveraux,” he said in greeting.

“Mr. Michaels,” she said in return. She spoke without ever turning to look at him. “It would behoove you to know that everyone here this evening is here because Jason invited them. He had the sole say in tonight's guest list. If you are here it is because he requested it.” Emily turned away from the painting and made her way to another group of guests.

Brad watched her walk away, lost in his thoughts.

That's great to hear, or read as it were. Nice to see everyone had a good time. There are some translation issues I can envision, namely around group successes, and the rolls around brainwashing. I'd be interested to see what needed to change for you guys, and how things went down.

While Hero system is your go to for supers, or was in this instance, if you're ever interested in giving Metahumans Rising a try I'm happy to answer questions. Granted, you should probably find me on MeWe, or other less rules devoted boards for that (RPG.new, or RPG Pub).

Yes the post is taken from our social medial, but we wanted to spread the word on our free Christmas Adventure.

We’re closing out the year with a final one page adventure. Well, not so much one page adventure as a short adventure. What started out as a simple short evolved into a full rescue scenario. Before we get to the adventure, a bit of background. Metahumans Rising has a full setting developed for it. Unfortunately, a lot of the content moved to stretch goals help keep our Kickstarter goals manageable. Now, don’t think that just because we missed those screen shots the original setting for Metahumans Rising is lost forever. As we develop new content, expect to learn more of our in house setting. So, why is this important?

Some fans of Metahumans Rising may have noticed a few references to the Eisenreich that snuck into the core book. So, who are the Eisenreich? Nothing short of modern day Nazis who survived World War II by going underground, literally. And, who better to try and kidnap and attempt to usurp the power of Santa? So our Christmas adventure also includes a brief introduction to one of the factions we wish we could have included in the core book.

Without further ado, we offer you Stille Nacht – The Iron Santa Initiative a Silver Age inspired adventure.

With heroes of this power you really need to begin challenges that are social and investigative.  The heroes need to know what they are fighting and why before they get to unleash.

If you read Justice League, you are talking about unbeatable power head on, their stories are often about getting in a place where they can bring the firepower to bear.

I find concentrating the power in one villain is a high risk strategy, I prefer dispersed foes, ones that mean the heroes have to be more discriminatory and surgical.

One of my friends that I was trying to persuade to run a game thought the group was too difficult to challenge (they were running at about 500 points under BBB rules).  Next scenario I had each hero begin by being called out by a robot.  They were built on 125 points but designed specifically to defeat each particular hero.  I made that part of the next adventure, the robots tattoo'ed their defeated opponents and left them in prominent public places in the campaign city.

It was supposed to demonstrate to my friend that the GM can beat the heroes any time he wants and it does not need a lot of points to do it.  Instead it decided him that he was never running a game in which I built my own character. 😬

Principle is still a good one.  The challenge for the GM is not beating the players or competing on power, it is coming up with a credible threat and an entertaining game.

Loooong over due for an update here.

Since July we have played depressingly few sessions. One of those sessions was really a BBQ with about an hour's worth of game chat tacked on the end.

So the game has moved only very slightly. The following took place over 2 sessions:

The heroes talked their way out of trouble with the Inquisitor. It helps that three of the party can work as the Face. All three together can be a formidable bunch of bullshit artists. That being said the heroes decided they weren't staying around long enough for  the Inquisitor to appeal to higher authority; their librarian friend had given them a rough idea of where to go to find the Dooms of Ra and they went.

They hired a ship and sailed south. (The sea they are sailing is basically the Red Sea. It is long and narrow, the western shore is the coast of Kemet, the eastern shore is basically the Arabian peninsular.) Their plan is to sail south, past the southern border of Kemet, make landfall and head west.

About 3 days into their journey they are hit by a sudden squall and they see a huge water spout form before them. It comes straight for the ship, they tack but the water spout changes direction and continues to rush toward them. Just as it is about to smash over their bows the spout stops and transforms into a huge (20' tall) woman - a marid! She introduces herself as Hai al-Sabd, the sultana of the Narrow Sea. The heroes greet her with suitable platitudes and humility. Pleased by their humility the sultana asks them to perform a task for her, in return for which she offers a casket filled with pearls. All the heroes must do is rescue her lover. He is being imprisoned by her great enemy, the dragon-turtle Ahtalilla. Her lover is actually being held in a cage suspended from a tower, that itself sits atop a high crag, far above the sea. It is difficult for Hai al-Sabd to reach it, and would put hers at great risk. Not to mention there is a good chance it is a trap. After some negotiations the heroes accept. She gives them a piece of enchanted coral that will summon her if dropped in the sea.

On the marid's advice they take the ship's long boat to the island. The hope is that it is small enough to escape notice, especially in the storm. The plan almost succeeds. A patrol of Sahuagin does notice the boat and comes to investigate. They catch the heroes upon a narrow pebbly beach just as they are looking for the best way to ascend the crag. In the ensuing fight the halfling sorcerer comes within a whisker of dying but is rescued by a heroic, last moment run by the cleric, who dodges past 3 or 4 enemies to reach the halfling and lay some healing magic on them. The fight was much bloodier than I anticipated but the heroes burn some healing and continue on.

About half way up the crag they find a deep pool. The path past it lies between the pool and a long drop. Carefully, watching the pool for monsters, they begin to edge around the pool. To no-one's surprise a few large drakes leap up out of the water, their wings beating as they take to the air. In the battle I knock the ranger of the cliff, but that's okay as he has awesome reflexes and is able to catch himself before plummeting to his doom.  After this the only tempting target was the halfling sorcerer, who was also standing on the cliff's edge.  A drake charges him and... misses. The drakes are then dispatched quite quickly and the heroes carry on up the steep crag.

Finally at the top of the crag they approach the tower. The imprisoned lover sits in a small cage that hangs from the parapets at the top of the tower. One of the heroes (the paladin I think?) calls out to the prisoner "Don't worry, we'll rescue you." Several other characters sigh deeply.

The tower door swings open at their approach and a warm, welcoming light streams out into the cold, wet night. The heroes peak through the door and see a room that is decorated like an undersea grotto; all shells, frescoes of frolicking dolphins, etc. Amidst the room stand three beautiful women who welcome the heroes into their home. Not even the paladin is falling for this one but they enter anyway. The women claim they are goddesses and that their prisoner has committed the crime of spying upon them while they were bathing.

At this point my wife, who knows me too well, says "They're hags under an illusion aren't they."
    Me: "Er...no?"

But the heroes are still the good guys and don't go all sword-swingy without provocation. While the heroes converse with the "goddesses" they are being subjected to their Evil Eye power. This has the effect of staggering the target. (Think of it as  SPD drain.) The heroes must make PER rolls (actually sense motive rolls) to notice the hags' subtle attacks. It takes a round but one of them (the cleric I think) does notice and accuses the "goddesses" of cursing them. Weapons are drawn and the fight is on. It's a bit drawn out, the SPD drain slows things down and the hags are able to retreat up the stairs to a higher level of the tower. Two characters (dwarven twins, both warriors) go down under the hags' Evil Eye, cursed and dying. But in the end the hags are not able to match the heroes in a stand up fight. Luckily the heroes had shown some forethought and had purchased potions to remove curses and both twins were saved.

They then rescue the marid's lover, a man called Sherbad. He looks like a young Omar Sharif. As quickly as they can they get back to their boat and sail away, to rendezvous with their ship. Back aboard the Wave Cutter they set  all their sail and head away from Dragon Turtle island as fast as they can. The heroes have of course been talking to Sherbad and how his lover sent them to rescue them. Up until now Sherbad had been playing with a very good poker face and hiding his true feelings. But now, many miles from his prison, he admits that he isn't all that keen to see Hai al-Sabd again. He had in fact been running away from her when he'd been captured by the hags. He begs and pleads with the heroes not to call the marid.

There followed a pretty long debate about what to do. Som epeople pointed out that Sherbad was clearly a douche. (He is. No doubt about it, I played him that way.) In the end they decided to get to where they needed to be, and be onshore when they summoned Hai al-Sabd. From the safety of the dunes, about 50m back from the waterline, Sherbad explained that he was no longer keen adn that they should see other people. It was, he explained, him, not her. That's about when Sherbad legged it inland. Don't worry, he'll be back.

The heroes then go on to argue that Hai al-Sabd now owed them a casket of pearls. They Point out that she had asked them to rescue Sherbad, which they had done. Angry, hurt, and crying the marid throws the casket of pearls upon the sands and leaves.

The heroes have reached the land of Axum and are now planning their journey westward to find the mountain known as The Pillar of the Sky and the Valley of Dead Fire that lies inn its shadow.

Little known fact - everybody's heartbeat is different.  The heart rate, the amplitude of the beats, little microscopic pauses between some beats.  If you've got good hearing-- and I mean really, really good -- you can tell one person from another in a pitch black room just by how their heart sounds.

My hearing is that sharp.  Good thing, too, since I'm blind as a bat.

You'd think that being blind would be a major impediment to a career as an assassin, but I do okay.  I've got this sonar-like ability that helps me know what's where, and my other senses are ramped up a bit too.  (Let's not talk about an empowered sense of smell.  One trip in a crowded elevator at a game convention should let you know how bad that could be.)  I can even make a good guess, based on the heart rate change and the smell of a sweat outbreak and what-not, whether someone's lying.  And trust me, you want to know when your client is lying to you about your next target.

I even made this tricked-out man-portable missile launcher.  Sure, the missiles are kinda small, not much larger than a rifle bullet.  But they home in on the target's heartbeat.  All I gotta do is fire in their general direction and the missiles will zip around obstacles, then wham!  Right in the ticker.

Anyway, that's why my code name is Heart Beat.

Suffering from insomnia, Derek St. John tried to develop a ultrasound device that enables people to sleep soundly. The 'Morpheus' device worked too well and Derek fell asleep for the first time in weeks.

He didn't wake up until a week later. Upon reawakening he discovered that the Morpheus device was stolen by his own brother Eugene who being an mechanical engineer himself, altered the device into a scythe and used it to not only put people into slumber but also somehow inflict vivid nightmares on the sleeping people before robbing them blind. Derek soon confronted Eugene who now called himself the Boogeyman and dressed like the grim reaper, zapped him with the scythe. Much to their surprise, the Morpheus weapon didn't affect Derek and during the struggle Eugene made his getaway.

Determined to undo the harm his brother had caused, Derek built another Morpheus machine and made a costume which concealed his identity.

Now as The Sandman, he ensures the innocent people of the city will sleep soundly without fear of the Boogeyman.

Dani descended feet first through the flight shaft. Indicator lights pointed out the entry to the common floor. Approaching it, the access opened, allowing Dani to land and douse her flames. “It better be damned important. That was the first time I wore that dress.”

“Yes, Dani,” Mentor said. “You should go to the common area.”

Barefoot, Dani headed the way Mentor instructed.

Turning the corner she saw a shadowy figure standing in the common. The only lights on in the room were from the Christmas tree. The lights blinked, casting their patterns on the walls and ceiling. Dani cast the figure a questioning look. “Momma?”

Sharon turned to her daughter. Tears were streaming down her face. “Dani? My beautiful girl! Let me look at you!” Sharon moved closer.
