Also note (and this will need to be reviewed by the copyright owners) that there are some exceptions to the copyright rule. Obtaining permission for a specific purpose is one exception to consider and fair use is another. The first is your best bet, obviously. In the second case you may want to check with legal counsel, but there are cases where sharing a pdf (via showing pages in a meeting, not by transferring a copy electronically to another party) in a teaching setting could fall under fair use. Personally, I find the prices for Hero products imminently fair given the amount of work that went into creating them, so a better strategy is probably to locate used copies of the physical books online for purchase as people get the money.

I didn't make the Effectiveness Rating spreadsheet -- that was Robert Pennington. He laid out the ER's principles in an article in Digital Hero #3, but you can download the spreadsheet itself from this archived webpage: https://web.archive.org/web/20050825105749/http://herogames.com/FreeStuff/csheets.htm

I'm not sure how fully it maps to Sixth Edition, though.

OK I have a bit of a query here.

In 6th edition (at least, maybe earlier) the concept of using Change Environment to simulate effects was expanded from just "impose an environment" to "can cause other effects."  For example: a sheet of ice that requires making a DEX roll (at a penalty) to stay standing.

What, build-wise, is the distinction between these two uses?  For example:

    Chill:
Change Environment -3 DEX to Rolls, Area Effect Radius 4m

    Ice Sheet:
Change Environment -3 DEX Roll or the target falls over, Area Effect Radius 4m

Its mechanically and mathematically the identical build, but one makes something happen and the other simply imposes a penalty.

    Interesting.

45 active means a relatively low-power game, to be sure, but still...to disallow a 23 DEX seems particularly harsh, since that's a breakpoint number.  And I'd think a 5 SPD would be a plausible upper limit, but that's still too high...so I'd definitely be against AP caps, counting the base.

I'd be against it even discounting the base, because AP caps are...odd.  There's an old thread that goes into this:

Another example would be that Resistant Protection combines PD and ED routinely...and possibly Flash and Mental, but those are expensive.  Same with Damage Negation.  But Damage Reduction isn't...you buy the physical and energy as separate powers.  So...what's the active point limit apply to?

I don't know about Dragonflight. It has been about 3 years since I went to a con.

So as not to derail the thread if you want to send me a pm and we continue chatting.

    Hi, Everyone! I posted a group of elemental themed villains inspired by the 1980s cartoon Inhumanoids and the Calvin & Hobbes cartoon strip. Included are the Hero Designer Files (6th Edition) and Microsoft Word formats. They are the following;

Magmax - Lava elemental, inspired by the character Metlar (450 pts)
Revenant - Bone golem, inspired by the character Decompose (400 pts)
Trellis - Plant elemental, inspired by the character Tendril (400 pts)
Snow Goon #1 and #2 - Inspired by Calvin & Hobbes' creations one winter day that went mad! (250 pts each)

    Enjoy! 😀

I think that would apply to a lot of us.  As for Hero, while it is my favorite system, except for a stretch in the 80-90's I have actually played other games far more.
Since about 2005ish games like CoC and the Gumshoe games have been my meat and potatoes.  Recently the 2d20 games have pulled me in, they are pretty good.

Unrelated comment.   Sedro Woolley!  That isn't actually too far from Marysville.  I've been thinking of trying to start something at Docking Bay in Mount Vernon since I work on Whidbey and drive through MV everyday.
Are you planning on going to Dragonflight in August?

I've added support for the optional hit location system. The sheet will calculate OCV penalties (with PSL support), roll target locations (for head shots, body shots, etc.), and calculate STUN for killing attacks. On the sheet weapons checked as AoE will not use hit locations, so the system can be turned on or off on a case by case basis. Whether or not an AoE weapon should use hit locations seems to be a GM-decision thing so this seemed a convenient marker. An AoE tag is useful with or without hit locations anyway.

Roll20's servers should start using the updated version in a few days.

Ndreare reacted to Villain In Glasses in New Roll20 Character Sheet - Hero System 6e Heroic
    Hello everyone,

I’d like to announce the availability of a new Hero System character sheet for Roll20 intended for heroic-level campaigns. “Hero System 6e Heroic” is available alongside Darren’s “Hero System 6e” in Roll20’s game options. This is an entirely new character sheet that uses no code from the earlier sheet.

HS6e Heroic has a different design philosophy motivated by the needs of heroic settings such as Fantasy Hero and Star Hero. Over the last year or so I worked on a Star Hero campaign, but felt stymied because the existing character sheet was inappropriate for the setting. Eventually I decided I would either have to drop the idea or learn html and javascript and develop my own sheet. I hope the result makes running and playing Hero games easier, especially for new players. The project took about three months.

    Features include:

    1) A bookkeeping system, which hopefully provides a full accounting of points spent on characteristics, skills, powers, talents, perks, and complications. Includes support for skill enhancers, group levels, and overall levels and calculates skill rolls.
    2) Self-contained. No custom APIs needed. Usable with a basic free Roll20 account. Those with a pro-level account may still find the Hero Roller script useful for more flexible macros.
    3) Heavy focus on skills. Support for 30 general skills, 7 combat skills, 6 martial skills, and 9 languages.
    4) Support for 10 powers and/or frameworks.
    5) Designed for purchased equipment, armor, and weapons. Adds weight and calculates END, DCV, and dexterity penalties.
    6) Support for normal and killing damage weapons. Rolls and calculates BODY and STUN of each attack type. (Only recently possible without custom APIs.)
    7) Uses basic armor activation instead of hit locations since this is simpler and probably more appropriate for heroic settings.

    Some caveats:

    1) Unfortunately, you will not be able to easily switch between the two 6e Roll20 character sheets. The code bases and lists of attributes are really very different. Although it should be possible to write some kind of translation script, I don’t have plans to do this.
    2) I should mention that except for a few items needed to support the underlying math there are no lists of skills, power descriptions, power advantages, etc. You will need official Hero Games source material to actually fill out the character sheet and understand how to create a character and play the game. I am intrigued by eepjr24’s Hero Designer to Roll20 import script and may look into porting it. No promises though.
    3) The new API for displaying your avatar on-sheet is implemented, but only supported on the Dev Server at this time. I expect it to be approved for general use soon.

I’ve tested my code in Chrome, Firefox, Safari (Mac and iPad), and MS Edge. There are some cosmetic differences between browsers, but nothing major. Roll20 on iPad Safari is harder to use, but it does work. Note that although Safari and Edge aren’t officially supported by Roll20, that hasn’t stopped me from using Safari as my primary browser in Roll20 games.

I welcome your comments and bug reports. I’m thinking about ways to improve handling of basic and martial maneuvers, possible optional support for hit locations, and general ways to improve usability.

I got into Champions because a girl asked me to.  I was chasing after her and she was in a game and knew I was into comic books in a big way. I loved the game and stayed with it long after she and I were no more.
So you’ll have to ask her what game she would have been playing ‘cause she could have asked me to try laying down in traffic and I would have said OK.

I've kept the old ones as a zip file on a Google drive just in case, you never know how Java will update and f**k things up. 99% of the time there isn't an issue though.

I've yet to have a problem with anything, old or new. There are newer ways of doing things that make the old ones...obsolete(?) (such as the way you can do templates vs putting everything in prefabs), but the program reads it all the same.

There have been more updates and upgrades to the software since v3 than can be listed.  You're talking about _years_ of updates...akin to asking what the differences are between Windows 95 and Windows 11.

They have to buy CSLs with the attacks they use to make a Multiple Attack, which they may apply when making the Multiple Attack with those attacks. I use Google Drive and a shared folder with maps and notes. You can even add links to docs  as a note on a location.

However Obsidian Portal is designed for this and offers a service like this, but I do not know how complex it is as I do not use it.

Roll20 can do this by having threads for recording details and making the players Co-GMs of an account. They could then edit in the initial thread for a location or organization and add posts when new major revelations are brought forth.
