  1. I’m listening to some random stuff on YouTube and a Warren Zevon song comes on......In my mind I see a peaceful protest at night in some unidentifiable American city. Black Police vans appear and block the road, masked men in camouflage with nightsticks and tasers pour out throwing tear gas grenades and shoving people to the ground. A low bass drum begins to pound. From the yellow smoke illuminated by the spotlights a figure of a man emerges holding a long weapon of some kind. It’s only now that I realize that the figure HAS NO HEAD. Roland the Thompson gunner has returned. If someone could connect the song to this post I would be most grateful.
  2. This seems like a good idea, a nice place and in accordance with the rules let me say now.....Nazi’s suck. P.S. So does Hydra. P.P.S. Although watching them get their butts kicked does make for a fun night of gaming or a fine evening of programming on the History Channel.
  3. I’ve always thought of Dr. Destroyer as an amalgam. He may look and have a write-up like Dr.Doom but he acts and thinks like Ra’s al Ghul.
  4. In the Silver Age he used to compress his Clark Kent clothes down to wafer size and keep them and his glasses in a pouch in his cape. They were treated with a special chemical to keep from wrinkling. That’s why his suit was always blue, shirts white and his tie red. The belt buckle contained his JLA communicator. God, I’m a geek.
  5. Yeah, but Roddenberry ended up using a lot of those ideas for Andromeda. So a number of different people had employment for five years. It becomes one of those alternate universe things. Like the one where Star Trek starred Robert Conrad and Martin Landau as Kirk & Spock. (They were both considered for the roles.)
  6. Enter the Dragon may be his most famous movie but my favorites are the two different pilot movies he did for Gene Roddenberry’s Genesis II series.
  7. True. And I’m the one who keeps preaching poetry over rules.
  8. Isn’t this one technically a movie quote? (Tongue planted firmly in cheek.) Demon inside little girl : ”Yo momma sews socks that smell!” Young Priest : “Nobody talks about my Momma!” (begins to strangle little girl)
  9. I see in the other comments on this thread a lot of concentration on including everything that’s happened before and what the future history should include. There seems to be not enough consideration on what’s happening NOW. IMHO the most successful reboots in comics were the first ones. The beginning of the Silver Age with the Flash and the one that took place after the original Crisis on Infinite Earths. In each the main focus was on what was being used now, not what was being left behind. Things became too complex only when every story idea of the past had to be made a part of current history. It’s more important to decide what fits in today, what makes sense for a new group of characters who exist currently. If a character or organization doesn’t make sense now then it has to be sacrificed. UNTIL, PRIMUS, VIPER etc. must be shaped for the world as it exists not how it was in the ‘70’s & ‘80’s when they were introduced in Champions or the ‘60’s & ‘70’s when their archetypes appeared in the comics. The Marvel Movies versions of SHIELD and the origin of Iron Man are good examples of updating for the current day. If this is a serious conversation about new product for a new audience you have to be willing to “kill your babies” in the writers parlance. Meaning if something doesn’t fit into the world as it is it must be laid aside in favor of new ideas that will.
  10. Marvel’s Netflicks TV shows were a great DC campaign. Low powered heroes, film noir style, the whole deal. Check those out if you can.
  11. This would have been a great show......And they still could have done the Green Hornet crossover. Cesar Romero as the Red Skull!! Neil Hamilton (Commissioner Gordon) as the General who hands Cap his missions. Stafford Repp (Chief O’Hara) as the Sargent who gives Steve & Bucky trouble and never figures it all out.
  12. “I wish I was big.” Big 2 From Disney Streaming. I’m thinking Colin Hanks for the voice of the kitty and Tom Hanks for the leopard.
  13. The little girl with the Batscooter was cute, but I like this version better.
  14. Yes, he played Sulu in Star Trek Continues. It was one of the better on line Trek shows with good writing and real actors. It’s worth checking out if Trek is your thing James Doohan’s son played Scotty.
  15. Age and condition of health doesn’t really matter. (Bad habits WILL make your odds worse.) You’re born with a weak spot in a blood vessel in your head or your heart and at some point all the dice come up snake eyes. It might be when you’re 20 years old playing basketball, 92 years old blowing out the the candles on the cake or even a dashingly handsome gamer type in his early 40’s sitting in a restaurant. (Trust me, I know ‘bout that last one.) If you’re insanely lucky, you get brought to a place that can help. (Even if that happens, it just means that it’s likely to happen again sometime.) If not you find yourself somewhere trying to explain about that Hershey Bar you swiped when you were five. All in all it’s not the worst way to go, it doesn’t hurt and it’s over too fast to be scared. He seemed like a good man and I’m sure that he was loved and will be missed. (Thanks for letting me vent...Hot button.)
  16. I like a mix of the first two. Naturally occurring heroes whether from Magic, Godly intervention, Mutation or Alien influences were extremely rare before the 1900’s slowly picking up due to Social Pressures caused by the first World War On one hand and the increase of radiation in the atmosphere due to early experimtation.
  17. Oops, no offense. I read your + number for your number of posts. Serves me right for trying to read when I’m only half awake. The sentiment still goes though. This is a good place with good people. I’ve seen a LOT of gaming and Sci-Fi sites filled with trolls, Misogynist garbage and nasty little teenagers throwing every sort of racial and homophobic insult there is. This place is a haven of polite behavior and reasonable, helpful folks. P.S. What kind of stuff do you write? You mentioned formats but not style or genre.
  18. Well... be happy. Hanging out here you have at your disposal the best possible resource for learning the game, building your first characters, creating a game world of your own, learning how to GM and deal with players. From the original creators of the game to players and GM’s and players of all levels and styles you are surrounded by all the help (sometimes too much help) you could ask for. Have fun and stay healthy.
  19. Actually, the term “mercy bullet” came from Doc Savage using them in his pulp novels in the 1930’s.
  20. Ella Fitzgerald sings Gershwin w/ the Boston Pops Orchestra. Arthur Fiedler conducting. From a 1970’s PBS recording. Right now Ella is crooning “Our Love is Here to Stay”. This is what Heaven sounds like.
  21. Way to Eden would have been much better if they went with the original idea of the girl who Chekhov got involved with was McCoy’s daughter Johanna.
  22. Don’t forget real world options like “Bear Mace“ and “Pepper Gel”. Stronger and more concentrated versions of the originals. Pepper Gel in particular is nasty stuff. It’s designed to stick in globs so that when the target goes to wipe it away it gets smeared in deeper in to a larger area.
