  1. Re: New to Fantasy Hero I bought 5th ed just months before it was Revised. I know there was not a lot of functionality difference but there was enough that I had wished I'd waited. I would agree if I were considering a Battlegrounds book but I am looking to start from the beginning and commit to buying a pretty large series of books. I've waited six years to buy Fantasy Hero. For seven, I get shiny new. YMMV, but that is worth it to me to wait for. BTW, I don't at all feel singled out. I understand your position and agree to a point. No hard feelings.
  2. Re: Free character pics Holy cow, it's been almost a year since you did the last batch! That went fast. I love love love the pics you made last time. Please to consider... Boll Weevil, my nom de ptui. I have never been happy with my attempts to draw him. He has 4 four arms and they always look like if he lifted something with them they would fall off. Storn's Grond, I think, did it right but alas my 25 year old character remains unillustrated. As I mentioned, BW has four arms. Each arm has a spike on the ulnar forearm. He originally wore a loud green costume with half-mask. He thought he had a secret ID but, with 4 arms, he clearly did not. BW is not quite right. If the Abnormals were the A-team, Boll Weevil would be the Murdoch. The physical descriptions are important but his costume is open to your vision.
  3. Re: New to Fantasy Hero Gah!! No I am really torn. Maybe I will just order Turakian Age and start psyching myself up for ten months. Then again, I bought the big release for 2009 and, well.... By the way this has taught me a little something about myself. Until I win the lottery and can score me a Kindle, I am a dedicated tree-killer. I've had the 6E PDFs since Gencon and can't seem to get into reading online. For reference, it's awesome. I have CKC electronic and I like it a lot. For something I intend to read cover to cover, I need the hardcopy. Thanks for the advice all. I think I am going to need a new book shelf
  4. Well hello, Fantasy Hero forum. Some of you may know me from the Champions forum. I have been playing Champions for 25ish years. I played D&D before that and not so much since. I bought the original Fantasy Hero books back in 1993. Got really wanted to play but my group wanted to stick with supers. Fair enough. I have a friend who has been playing D&D as long as I have been playing Champions. We went to Gencon together and he is intrigued by the Hero system. I thought it would be a good compromise if I taught him Hero through Fantasy Hero. My question is where to begin?! I think I mostly understand the difference between Turakian Age, Atlantean Age, Tuala Morn and Valdorian Ages. The last D&D book I bought came was red and came in a box. I don't know where D&D worlds went after I left the hobby. Cam someone tell me if the Fantasy Hero settings have analogs in the D&D world (or somewhere close)? I would like to focus my spending on settings he may be comfortable with already. Also, I understand there was a 2003 update for 5th ed. Before I start spending (geez, I thought Champions had a big line) I want to start with the basics. Should I get Fantasy Hero? Will there be a 6th ed update? What are your favorite settings?
  5. Re: Silly question: To get to Rosie's diner.
  6. Re: Ground Gliding in 6th For some reason my eyes read "Grond gliding". That does NOT seem like a good idea.
  7. Re: 6th Edition Character Sheet I like it! I really like the 6th ed sheet listing enhanced senses together. It seems all my major characters have had enhances even exotic senses. This is a nice reminder to the player to use them! I like the fact the HD export sheet lists the senses in both the Powers and Senses sections for bookkeeping purposes. Good job Hero folks, Fred and RPMiller!! This is a keeper. You know it's funny I have been using Hero Designer sheets so long I had forgotten what a hand-filled sheet looks like until i saw the example in 6E. Just seeing it reminded me of the old 1st ed sheets, my first characters and how I love Hero's character creation system that requires my input for every character attribute. Easy to see why I have stuck around for 26 years
  8. Re: Too little knwoeldge is a dangerous thing But I can't tell if she's pretty!!!!
  9. Re: That Mechanon fella jest ain't right: a roleplay question Hee hee, you are correct, oh lagomorphic one. I picked up a copy of Book of the Machine at Origins. Nice! I did a forum search for Mechanon and had forgotten about this thread. Somehow I had missed the last couple of posts.
  10. Re: That Mechanon fella jest ain't right: a roleplay question Agreed...and repped.
  11. Re: Real World Books in Fictional Libraries If you had a "world's smartest man" character, he could have a book titled "Ramses II" next to his computer just in case he couldn't think of an adequate log-on password.
  12. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #2: New Combat Maneuvers; Objects As Weapons Overall I like these changes. I really like giving objects PD/ED. Nice. I was also bothered by the fact a normal guy with a baseball bat didn't do any more damage than had he punched (lest he buy +X HA). Good add. I am looking forward to seeing the treatment of Throwing. I just hope this comes with a complementary held/abort to action called Catching which I felt the old rules never adequately explained. I have built several characters adept at catching things with a modified Missile Deflection.
  13. Re: Naming the baby Oh no you dint. Repped.
  14. Re: Naming the baby I will call her VI.
  15. Re: Quicksilver on 350-450 points How is it I have gone this far without just buying the UMA? Thanks for all your help. I like all the Flash writeups. This helps a lot.
  16. Re: Quicksilver on 350-450 points I don't recall ever seeing a Passing Throw before. Is that from UMA? OPRAH?
  17. Re: Quicksilver on 350-450 points Well, I was pleased to see ol' Pietro mentioned by name in The Ultimate Speedster and for the very reason I find him so intriguing as a character.
  18. Re: Help with gear There is a plasma rifle (8d6, 4X32 charges) for 60 active points.
  19. Re: Google Earth We should all post coordinates to our favorite battle sites.
  20. I saw Watchmen this weekend and really liked it. I read the comics back in 1987 and had a recurring thought while I was reading that was reborn while watching the movie. Imagine if you will: You are starting a Champions campaign, circa 1986. You come up with a pretty interesting campaign world and invite your friends to play. As you go around the table, each player describes the character that he/she would like to play. One player, a batman fan, comes up with a legacy gadgeteer with an owl theme. Next player shows the group a cool picture he drew of his detective character with a cool amorphous mask motif. As he describes his character you wonder if you should have been more specific as to the tone of the campaign as he is a bit violent compared to Owl Guy. Your campaign starts with a murder mystery so maybe he will fit right in. Next player shows you his character sheet. While the other characters bought a lot of skills to flesh out their characters, Tony bought every power in the book...AND a lot of skills. Suddenly the player who wrote up a normal + 15 points of Martial Arts is starting to doubt her choice of character. While you are starting to panic that Tony has ruined your game, you look down at the character sheet he gave you. The picture he drew is the line-art figure that came with the blank character sheet template but colored blue. He even added tiny blue wedding tackle. "Oh come on!!" you yell as you get up from the table.
  21. Howdy folks. I was wondering if anyone here had actually run the events of Project Sunburst in your games? I think I have used every single CU character from that origin and even added some of my own but have never actually ran the scenario.
  22. Re: Some Book Of The Machine Pages Posted As to your evil plan, it seems to have worked. I had not seriously considered buying this book but now I too am waiting in the "me first" line!! As one who has commented on Mechanon's humanoid shape (again, not a criticism but an observation one of my characters might make) I like the modern design. I would have bought most of the Hero books on my shelf had there been no artwork but I must admit it is important to me. I am excited to purchase this book. Great job, guys.
  23. Re: Champs-What if you had to draft a superpower registration act? Much like hate crime laws. Murder, intimidation etc are already illegal.
  24. Re: In Praise of the Champions Universe In the last 10 years or so I have way more closely followed the story and goings on of the CU than i have any published comic book series. I have recently begun reading some Marvel titles again (and some older ones from Digital Marvel) but, for the most part, Hero has satisfied my comics jones. I have not had a local gaming group for 10-15 years but I continued to buy Champions supplements for the fiction. Keep up the good work. And Marcus Impudite, for me Menton will always look like the CKC illo which bears a striking resemblance to Tom Cruise in Magnolia.
