Limitations: There should be only one!
Scott Ruggels replied to RDU Neil's topic in HERO System Discussion
I take HERO on a more war gamey approach. This idea seems good for a more narative approach. In my case I like my players to think about the powers they create and the limitations they pick for it. I often run into assumption clash with newer players and HEROs specificity clears one avenue of that. YMMV -
Resourcing Hero games on Roll20

I will be out of the hospital soon, and I was xhecking up to see how progress was coming along? -
As one who sat at the tables with the original Heroes, in the pre- 5th edition days, the RKA stun multiple was 1d6.

I'd thinking a game with supers, a proliferation of the various modern (and WW2), man portable, 20mm cannons would proliferate amongst those that can afford them (or steal them. things in the 4,1/2Dt6 and 5 D6 category are possible, and with the various ammunition types, would allow a lot of utility. A recent-ish addition to this family is the Denel NTW 20 Anti-Material weapon. The South Africans Military and arms industry has been working on other systems that work on 20mm cases as well. Next is the Inkunzi PAW, formerly known as the NeoPup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHbqHx3TLBE That weapon would be more suitable as single man portable, for agents and organized thugs expecting super opposition All of these are based around the standard 20mm projectile, that Oerlikon made famous in WW2, so much so that every combatant in WW2, used the Cannon or a licensed copy of it. Because a 20mm projectiles is just under an inch in diameter, you can fit all sorts of things in it, and it has enough size nd mass to carry it's payload to your target. Today anything that can use standard 20mm projectiles, even if they are mated to proprietary cases, still will give the weapon a lot of capability to put damage down range. Here are the ammo types currently available, for you system tinkerers to make for the system https://www.rheinmetall-defence.com/en/rheinmetall_defence/systems_and_products/weapons_and_ammunition/direct_fire/mittelkalibermunition/index.php]] Hopefully this gives you something extra to arm your agents and thugs with, in a more serious, dark and gritty campaign, perfect for Dark Champions.

Fantasy Race book project...thinking out loud
Scott Ruggels replied to Scott Ruggels's topic in Fantasy Hero
thank you for the advice. Part of this is to make te PDF partially a portfolio piece, so there will be a fair amount of art. I will need some assistance on making the 6the stats as I don't own any of 6e, but putting the 4e stats in the back in stat blocks is a good idea. Something to think about, though.- 11 replies

What's your favorite edition of Hero System/Champions?
Scott Ruggels replied to fdw3773's topic in HERO System Discussion
I prefer 4th, as the rules. though I have fond Memories of the Fantasy Hero Playtest with Doug's Thugs back in Sunnyvale. (those differed, especially in point totals from the first edition of Fantasy Hero...that I did art for). -
Looking forward to it

Hello folks, After a long absence here because of a serious medical emergency, and a very looooooong hospital stay, I am back. This same emergency, somewhat resolved, has forcibly retired me, giving me a lot of free time. In that free time I have been with a group on Roll20.net happily playing games on weekends. Discussions with a friend, and a few players, motivated me, to take the remains fo a failed comic idea from a few years ago, and use the ideas for a Fantasy Race. So I floated the idea to the other players, and managed to make them work in Pathfinder (1), and and D&D5e. The results worked better than expected and they became an appealing choice for several of the players in both game systems. The race were "The Lupines" , a race of "beast men" based on Wolves, though their origins were obscure. We had Lupine Barbarians, Magic Users, a unique rogue, and a rather successful Paladin. Discussions lead to the possibility of making this an RPG book, with the stats a bit of write up in each system, and including example characters. Well, my first love is the Herosystem, and I wanted to include Hero stats. his leads me to some questions for those that are Herosystem experts. The current idea is to put the states and write ups for each system in their own sections, For ther Hero Section( and for prospective players), what would be most useful in a book that details a fantasy race? My deepest familiarity in the Herosystem myself, is The Big Blue Book, and before. I may own 5th edition, but it was at the tail end of my old Gaming period ( that ended in 1996) and I don't think I ever used the books. 6th Edition came out and faded from store shelves before I came to Revisit the table top hobby. Would it be acceptable to release the racial package deals in BBB format? What point levels are people mostly playing Fantasy Hero these days? In general most "racial Package Deals". would be 0-5 points, with cultural package deals around 10-15 points, or so. Other than a general descriptive text, what else would people like? We have had some successful PCs and those might become example characters (and NPCs). If so, How many? the page look, layout and formatting of Pathfinder and D&D are known and often generally dupicated for effect on Imgur, and Deviantart. These tend to be specific fonts, backgrounds and "painted" art. On the pages for D&D5e and Pathfinder, I will follow the "look" of the parent systems. That means full color digital paintings of the NPCs and example. What format for Herosystem should I follow? As it was in print in 1995? Is there a preferred formatting for the "current year"? Should I go full color? The Objective is a high quality, though probably not very long PDF. If I wanted to charge for it: Should I?, If so, How much? ($12.00 US too much?). And if I finish this PDF, what sort of distribution is there available? I have heard of Drivethrough RPG, but have never shopped there. Any hints? Hopefully my co-author, and myself will be able to put out an attractive package for Hero as well as other systems. We may use this as the cover, depicting the previous mentioned Paladin.

First 6e Game (After a LONG HERO Hiatus...)!
Scott Ruggels replied to Trechriron10's topic in Fantasy Hero
Oh, I don't disagree with the privacy. Just that there is not a set set of scripts and character sheet apps on roll20.net for a prospective GM to run Hero. I think it's very important for the longer term survival of Herosystem for it to be accessable and reasonably equipped on Rol20. Not looking to join your game, but to run one. Having seen all of the support tht Pathfinder and D&D5e have, I can see why they are they are the domiant games on that platform. That's all. -
First 6e Game (After a LONG HERO Hiatus...)!
Scott Ruggels replied to Trechriron10's topic in Fantasy Hero
Still, I have been on Roll20.net for about 3-4 years and never saw anyhero system, other than the test game. Other than that test environment, How is it done on Rol20, these days? -

First 6e Game (After a LONG HERO Hiatus...)!
Scott Ruggels replied to Trechriron10's topic in Fantasy Hero
On Roll20.net? How?!?!? Please show me, I have been on Rol20 for three or four years, but missint the opportunity to play in or run a Hero based game (either Champions, or Fantasy Hero, probably Fantasy Hero). Introducing my usual players to the Hero System may be easier than using Hero on Roll20. My familiarity is 4th edition, because I still have the books. -
What I did, was require spellcasters to buy an END Reserve, renamed "Mana Pool." You can put whatever Limitations you like on the RECovery of that END Reserve; including only refilling once a day. I ALSO put the "Requires a Roll" on the END Reserve and NOT on the spells; this has the effect of still requiring a roll to cast the spell (because you can't cast the spell without spending END, and it has to come from that Reserve) but the roll is not so cripplingly penalized because it's hard to spend enough Active Points of END to invoke the penalty. (no penalty at up to 25 END.) When the spellcaster is out of Mana, they have to stop casting until they replenish it (however you define as a way to replenish - rest, prayer, study, doing good deeds, sacrificing small animals, whateve Here's an idea if you want to up the stakes. Proceed with the mana pool, and have a magic skill roll to tap the mana pool. However if they blow the roll, the END cost comes off the caster's end not the Mana Pool. Recovery is as normal, for both the caster, and the manna pool. Zero manna in the mana pool, but it does allow the caster in dire circumstances to whip off a few spells before they fall down. (and get captured by the baddies for their nefarious purposes)

When we were working on Cyberpunk 2020 for R. Talsorian back in the game, we actually did research onto the frequency of wounds and their hit locations, most of which were from British Government research, from WW2, and used that to come up with our hit location charts for that. on a 1d10. According to the info, 10% were head hits, 10% for each arm, 40% on the torso, and 20% for each leg. We did this back in 1989, so new or different info may have different results today. I still like and use the default Hero hit locations, though.

The Suervival RDB is just a small (and perhaps California Legal... maybe) version of the upcoming RDB. It currently has problems with Quality control at least on the forums, but the design and price point of the RDB make it attractive, and yes it's designed for .223. From the videos and what a friend says, that when it's working it's a joy to shoot and fairly accurate, thought he survival's barrel is a little too thin. The best Alternative that seems to be coming out is the .308, but changeable calliber Desert Tecfh MDR, which has been delayed by testibng to make sure it DOES NOT have the Kel-Tec style QC issues and another friend hqas ordered one but it may not ship until July. Me? if it's made after 1945 I am generally not interested XD.

i would allow a move by or grab if the thrower missed, but the throwee needs to make an ocv roll, or appropriate skill rolls. Othewise he lands in the hex (apply knock back movement after impact for added fun as he skids across the linoleum on his belly).
