  1. Oh, it’s totally optional. The Herosystem, especially the earlier editions made a great tactical war game system, and was used as such on occasion. To me, that’s the mark of a great system. I am cold on minimalist, theater of the mind, systems. I think it boils down to group expectations and desires. Unfortunately it’s not instinctive, and requires some maturity. Most people can be taught to do it by others, but some people aren’t comfortable opening up, or are emotionally limited. It’s the old “I roll my persuasion skill vs. trying in character to persuade an NPC”, problem. Again, it is group preference. I know it took me a short while to get comfortable, and clearly separate IC and OOC knowledge, but I got there by playing with good role players, and extended from my wargaming roots.
  2. Currently being in a Pathfinder 1, and a D&D campaign on Rioll20.net. The differences are enough to distinguish the two. Combat wise, they are pretty much the same, though "attack of Opportunity" is no longer in D&D 5e, but other than that, combat is nearly identical. Where the maerked differences are reside in character creation. D&D puts out characters that are the usual. Pathfinder relies more on FEATS, and lots of them to allow for more character customization, and character advancement is pretty generous with the feats. This results in characters above 10- or 12th level in pathfinder to become Superheroes, compared to their D&D Bretheren. Also Pathfinder has a lot more customer involvement in the system, and there is more cross polinization. so you see many Homebrew races and magic items becoming incorporated into "Official Pathfinder" materials. In play, at least with the same GM running both games as a control, The feel similar enough that familiarity with one, gives you familiarity, though less so than the other. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.
  3. If you ever wanted to see what a jump in a tech level (tech tree) looks like, here is the Royal Norwegian Warship Karlstadt in Trondheim harbor during this month’s NATO excercise. Similar angling of Hull plates as the Zumwalt class. It is smaller and probably stealthier than the Americans ship. Contrast it with the 20 plus year old vessels behind it. https://strategypage.com/military_photos/military_photos_20181026122859.aspx
  4. The Epiphany system is a good way for a story based progression, but other than that I go with the assumption that skills and and powers bought with XP just are either making the character closer to his conceptual ideal, or saving up for that “radiation “ accident. The strength of the Hero System is building what YOU want.
  5. It would probably depend if the AI wanted a human audience, and derived some sort of pleasure from the interaction or comments. If not it would probably do something to satisfy it's own aesthetics. Just hope it isn't dangerous Aesthetics. (Using satellite based weapons to draw graffiti on cities or remodel coastlines).
  6. Yes, but in my experience, most Superhero campaigns follow along the tropes of current comics, and some of the writers flip back and forth from television (Gerry Conway Fred), so many of the ideas from TV and some movies flip back to comics. Times change, technology advances. So unless you are run a specific “ metallic age” campaign, the real world, or at least the movie and TV world will leak in through the players. I for one would love to play in an MCU flavored Champions campaign.
  7. I did not know that, but then I stopped watching the Oscars about 2007 when they didn't really cover movies I liked any more.
  8. There was a famous case, arising from Back To The Future II. This is from an October of 2015 article from The Hollywood Reporter: The situation now, is that to use an Actor's likeness you need to clear it with the estate, or the actor themselves, especially if they are represented by the Screen Actors Guild. The fact that they used Peter Cushing's likeness in "Rogue One", was because the BAFTA rules are different from SAG. Also the Peter Cushing performance in the movie was performed by an actor that wore the costume, and moved through the scene, and did an impression of his voice. His performance was used as refer3ence for the CG crew place their model in the scene. Having watched a play through of Assassin's Creed, It's going to be a long time, before Actor's aren't necessary. it's just going to be hard to become a "star", if your face is never shown, because of extensive CG, and possible voice replacement as well. We also still have a few years before we defeat the uncanny valley. the audience reaction to the Cushing character model seems to be split 50/50 with some creeped out, and the others okay with it. Eventually we will gdt to "Cortana" level AI controlled characters, but it's going to be a long way off.
  9. Human (Hyoo ● mən) - An upright bipedal primate, genus Homo Sapiens, native to the planet Earth (Terra). The Species is characterized by a high degree of adaptability due to its intelligence and learning capacity.
  10. I remember that story very well. They also identified a few others as well. It would be very difficult these days to avoid scrutiny. even normals with good phones could get some video of just about anything. There may be a 4Chan thread just about unmasking villains (and a few heroes), if there is enough video of the event.
  11. Thanks. But I may want to introduce players to fourth edition. It appears I have to learn 6th edition, though so as to get the book out. I did like the short PDF on how to play Fantasy Hero that was cooked up last summer. That was a good primer on Hero combat.
  12. Well since Star Trek Discovery as it is, did not attract enough American's to the CBS All Access Channel. They retooled it (See Patrick Stewart rejoins Star Trek.). As to Netflix, I believe they are going to slowly lose all Disney Content from their platform as Disney forms their streaming service, consisting of Disney Classics, Star Wars, and Marvel properties. Netflix showed the way, and those who understand the model are copying them. CBS did not understand the model. No one wants to stream much Antique, Standard Def, Broadcast Television, especially since it was free on it's first run, and subsequent re-runs for decades. The Audience wants, new, shiny, edgy, well written tales from a singular viewpoint, and expensive. This is why I think Apples Streaming Service will not work well, except for parents with kids, because the head of Apple specifically stated that he does not want edgey, adult content on Apple's platform. He basically is re-creating the BS&P, but on a streaming service. I am sorry to see Luke Cage not get it's third season, but it was good while it lasted.
  13. The Iron Giant, actually. Optimus Prime was voiced by Peter Cullen.
  14. <__< Hey... you weren't supposed to mention that. Well I think Mike Pondsmith put out a second edition a few years ago, but I haven't seen anything recently.
  15. Sure you can. She is a soccer Goalie, she doesn't move much, and would be constantly holding her actions, and an incoming ball would be expected at any time. To clear the goal, she could use deflection, and then Reflection when she wants to teach someone a lesson (Excellent comedy movie by the way.)
  16. Good lord! The specificities! I am guessing 6e changed a lot of the rules, and not just the stat calculations. Well, if I am to finish my book, I guess I need to read 6e
  17. "The Good Orc", eh? Okay, you have a point, and there are certain cultural and biological limits, what on a broad scale, will still characterize the species. Also a lot of the characterization is formed by the first individuals you meet. Iraqi kids m,ust think American Military bleeds Skittles and school supplies. But then the military selects for certain "types", so you would not see a large chunk of society represented, but the baseline "American" generally would still possess a few of many common tropes.
