But not content to leave well-enough alone, he decided to branch out into lightly armored suits and acid-based weaponry. Not being as good with chemicals as he thought he was...well, let's just say there was an accident. And a lot of vomit. Then a lot more vomit. Then it started really getting gross when Mr. Stanley couldn't stop...for days. When he finally got himself under control, he'd found a good use for his newly patented Slides-Right-Off fabric coating. The money from his patents and sales are well-separated legally (and internationally) from his criminal activities so that the US justice system can't stop or seize his businesses or money. And Stanley has taken to challenging random superheroes who have a code vs killing so he can use their battles as infomercials for whichever gadgets he is field-testing that week (notifying the media in advance of the confrontation and prominently mentioning his products by name during the fight) . He's even done the same thing to a couple of supervillains, who have taken the experience of battling The Regurgitating Man with just as much grace and aplomb as you might expect.
  2. You are giving him far too much credit if you think he has any idea who Rand is.
  3. I assume every Lovecraftian horror is larger than a football stadium until shown to be otherwise.
  4. It amazes and saddens me that the political divide in this country is so steep that even among people who should be scientists by nature and training that there are many who seem to think that the only possible motivation to be against the theory of man-made climate change is because "party leaders said so" or because "they believe the propaganda coming out of oil companies" (which is generally the other excuse which is used).
  5. I used to be a WWII buff in the era before the internet and have watched the History Channel a lot back when it effectively used to be the WWII Channel. From what I understand, the Allies were fully aware that the Nazis were trying to develop the atom bomb and devoted significant resources to spy out research locations and then sabotage or raid them. Once the Allies finally developed fighters which had the range to escort bombers all the way to the target and back, there wasn't really any place for the Nazis to put research facilities where their atomic scientists could work unmolested. At every point in the war, the Allies were closer to developing long range fighters (so that bombing campaigns would be effective) than the Germans were to developing the bomb. The Germans tried spreading out their research facilities like putting their heavy water operation in Norway rather than in Germany. But it was only a short while before the Allies found it and started trying to take it out. Much the same with other facilities from what I gather. The thing I think might have worked would have been if the Russian campaign had been highly successful, the Germans pushed the remaining Russians back into the Ural mountains, and the Germans had moved their atomic research into the former Russian territory. That would have been out of range of Allied air power and seaborne raids, and it would have been extremely difficult to sneak in spies because the Germans tended to leave no civilians in Russian areas for Allied spies to hide behind. As for Germany turning on the Italians, for the most part the Italians weren't competing for the same things Germany was. There were ethnic Italians in the Yugoslavian area and some seaports along that coast which had at some points in history been under Italian control. And Italy wanted some African colonies but not necessarily in the same areas the Germans were interested in. I think Italy might have been interested in Cypress, Crete, and controlling access to the Black Sea which would mean at least owning parts of modern day Turkey and Bulgaria. Hitler was pretty crazy so anything could have happened but I don't think it's a given that Germany was going to turn on Italy.
  6. Yeah, this guy comes across as an unstoppable, stone-cold killer without any style. I just worry about campaign use with the very power high EC which can be effectively doubled by the very large VPP. As written, the GM could straight up double the 16d6 energy blast to make it a 32d6 energy blast. He could use ten of those dice to spread the blast and still hit with 22d6. If those kinds of things are too disgusting for anyone to consider in their campaigns, maybe put a limitation on the VPP that it can't be used to pump up any powers in the EC? If I wanted to do that, what size limitation do you think it would be and what would be the new cost of the power?

    All your base

Silly rules questions on bases and vehicles. Feel free to add your own silly questions. !) The area you own surrounding your base can be doubled repeatedly. If my base has duplication and each of the duplicates has their area doubled repeatedly, it the progression in size geometric or straight arithmetic? That is to say, you doubled the area four times: 2, 4, 8, 16. So your area is 16. But you have four duplicate bases. Is your total area straight math 16+16+16+16? Or did you double four times for the first base, double another four times for the second base, another four times for the third base and another four times for the fourth base? If it works geometrically, I might be able to buy a solar system and duplicate one planet into several. 2) With my base that has mutliform, is the disguise implied when it turns into an abandoned amusement park or should it purchase the disguise skill as well to make something that looks like an abandoned amusement park look like an abandoned amusement park? 3) My modified space shuttle (zero point energy power system with an AI) has bought martial arts to use with its extra arms. I'm fine with that, even though it's been Martial Throwing jets around. But now its started taking side trips to the South Pacific and has become the object of worship for a cargo cult. He's been taking the islanders around the world to take "cargo" back home which is eventually going to get him into trouble. But does he buy the islanders as followers, do I buy the islanders as followers even though they aren't exactly following me, or are they just partners "in crime" because none of them really understand the concept that the property isn't cargo that exists as a gift of the gods?
  8. That darkening of the art in the middle of the chest hints at cleavage. The coat (over-shirt?), veiwing down from the top, doesn't start having buttons until after the bustline which is more of a feminine fashion statement than a male fashion. The belt area around the buckle sags toward the crotch to draw the viewer's attention downward to that area, something which is more of a comic book fashion statement for female heroes than males. No visible biceps (that part of the arm is wallowing inside a fairly slender sleeve). The forearm is very slender. The legs are drawn in tight pants in a manner which is reminiscent of comic depictions of female heroes. But it would be interesting if it were a male hero who is cross-dressing in hero ID as a woman in order to hide his secret identity. I don't recall ever seeing that done before.
  9. As Jesus was raising Lazarus from the dead, one of the apostles stepped away to answer the call of nature. Shortly afterward, the apostle Peter berated him saying, "'I bet you don't even know how many people were raised from the dead today. " The fellow answered, "Maybe not but I know it was at least four because I distinctly remember Jesus yelling "Lazarus, come forth!"
  10. Having the Desolid is going to make him really difficult to deal with in the first place. But it looks like that he could use his VPP on the Energy Blast from his EC to let him remain Desolid while shooting into the real world with a very large attack. That looks to be a remaining problem with his build unless you include a warning to GM's to "never let him think of that". Because with his "no compassion", he's going to be completely untouchable while shooting through churches, school children, press conferences, and DNPC's in order to draw out or torture his real target.
  11. Considering he grew up in a circus and flies, I'd have assumed he learned Breakfall at some point. Personally, I'd get rid of a couple of the combat skill levels, keep his SPD at 4, and increase his DEX. For example: 26 DEX 48 costs 27 more points than the current build 4 SPD 4 costs 10 fewer points than the current build So I need to come up with 17 points somewhere to pay for it. His OCV went from six to nine (+3) and DCV went from six to nine (+3 on that as well). So you could get rid of the 10 points of H-t-H skill levels and get rid of an 8 point "all combat skill level for a total reduction of 18 points and still come out far ahead on combat capability. And spend the leftover point on a familiarity with Breakfall. Anyway, I picked the DEX 26 so I could use the Breakfall joke, but the DEX could stand to be bumped even if its a *wee bit* less than that. I love high DEX and low SPD characters. Back when I was younger, I was dexterous and graceful while moving within my space. But my SPD was definitely low when doing anything physical.
  12. LOL, I have absolutely no idea what you are trying to communicate with that sentence since it depends on knowing your internal definitions of "conservative" and "liberal" and whether you are talking in the frame of reference of what those might mean in Japan or whether you're speaking of what those words might mean in the US (and which era in the US). Would you mind re-phrasing the sentence so I can tell which atmosphere you are speaking of (social, political, economic, etc.) plus defining what you mean by "conservative" and "liberal"? I'm glad you mentioned the fact that you see the Japanese restricting freedom of worship in its subject peoples. They allowed other cults and religions to exist in Japan even in the war years as long as they subordinated themselves to emperor worship. I could easily see several Christian sects knuckling under (not necessarily Catholics but the Emperor being God's avatar on Earth in a similar manner in which some have seen the Pope as having that role) plus the existence of new religions such as Scientology rising as long as they complied with the law. A Heaven's Gate-style suicide cult wouldn't even necessarily be against the law. So "restricting" is the perfect word to describe how they'd be likely to approach the situation.
  13. That's cool. I'd assumed it was imported to Japan during the post-WWII occupation. But it turns out that they had professional baseball in Japan as far back as the 1920's.
  14. You have people named "Pym" and people who shrink and occasionally grow as part of their superpower set. As I understand the rules of the game, that doesn't give you exclusive right to the various sciences which might give your characters their powers. Just as me claiming a scientific discovery doesn't de-power anyone else's characters.
  15. D-Day landings "The British and Canadians put 75,215 troops ashore, and the Americans 57,500, for a total of 132,715" https://www.historyonthenet.com/d-day-statistics/ "The First U.S. Army, accounting for the first twenty-four hours in Normandy, tabulated 1,465 killed, 1,928 missing, and 6,603 wounded...Canadian forces at Juno Beach sustained 946 casualties, of whom 335 were listed as killed. Surprisingly, no British figures were published, but Cornelius Ryan cites estimates of 2,500 to 3,000 killed, wounded, and missing, including 650 from the Sixth Airborne Division." https://www.historyonthenet.com/d-day-casualties/ The number missing were most likely the ones who were killed in the water before reaching the beach. (And keep in mind that this is the number for the beaches, mostly not counting paratroopers, except for the British, or casualties on ships and planes.) 1465 + 1928 + 6603 + 946 + 3000-ish then compare that to the 132,715 who were there will give you the percentage. It'll come out roughly to 10.5% If you want it broken down by segment, there's 86,400 segments per day so you'd divide your total number of casualties (which looks to be around 14,000) by 86,400. That's a rate of casualties among the Allies of about one every six segments on the beaches. But keep in mind that casualties weren't evenly distributed throughout the day. Those are numbers from the first two links googling "number of casualties on d-day". There's several other links that look promising if you want to double-check the numbers. You could probably get good results from googling "number of casualties fill-in-the-blank landing" then just plug in Okinawa, Sicily, Iwo Jima, or anyplace else you want to look.
  16. I don't think Gunn was the only director on the planet who could make an enjoyable GotG movie. He might be the only one who could make one as enjoyable as the first one but there are probably a couple of dozen who could make one as good as the second movie, which was a substantial step down in quality.
  17. At the beginning of our involvement in WWII, Japan had 2/3rds the population of the US and the majority of its standing army was already fully...occupied...with occupying China, Burma, etc. So if there was any Japanese victory in WWII, I'd think it would have come from forcing the US to abandon the war either immediately after Pearl Harbor when the Pacific fleet was sunk or at least early in the war before Japan lost most of its fleet assets. I made up an alternate Earth for my PC's to visit in that setting. The US after its initial surrender re-started the conflict with multiple nuclear weapons followed by a ground invasion into what was expected to be a decimated enemy. The tactic backfired as the radiation event mutated a number of Japanese, mostly civilians, into Japan's first superheroes. The US invasion force, ships and men, was ruthlessly crushed with few survivors. Japan did a few punitive raids and got reparations but the resumption of a full scale conflict didn't happen. Given the defeat in the Pacific, FDR for his fifth term in office invited "Mr. Republican" Robert Taft to be his running mate, thinking he needed a truly bipartisan coalition government in order to continue the war in Europe. FDR ended, and apologized for, the Japanese concentration camps, embraced the Republican ideal of racial equality and civil rights for blacks (given their heroic efforts in the war), and apologized for quashing former First Lady Coolidge's efforts to bring in Jewish orphans to save them from the Nazi regime prior to our involvement in the war in Europe. FDR's repudiation of racism splintered the Democrat party with the Southern Democrats forming a segregationist party and the remainder still embracing FDR, the New Deal and other Democrat values. When FDR died, Taft became president (rather than Truman) and the Republicans faced no nation-wide opposition party. The Nazis were still defeated in the European theater due to US help, Hitler's repeated blunders, and the efforts of Supreme Commander of the Allied forces George Patton. None of the Japanese mourned Hitler's passing. The west and Africa ended up much the same as in the "real" world. Japan eventually consolidated its holdings throughout the Pacific, Siberia, Southeast Asia, and India. The Allies narrowly managed to fend off Japanese aggression in Australia. Japan's military junta was gradually replaced with a shadowy coalition of supers, with the military and the emperor working as their catspaws. Taft transitioned the Republican party away from isolationism and turned the country back toward a Coolidge-style fiscal conservatism. Some New Deal initiatives were rolled back while others were modified with an eye toward being financially sustainable over the long run. Vice President Patton eventually was elected president when Taft retired. (Notably, no presidential term limit exists.) The US became more militaristic, training school age children in combat skills much like the Japanese were doing prior to the war. This effort was helped along by refugees from China and Tibet who introduced various martial arts to the American public. Street crime such as mugging is more rare today because you can't tell whether the little old lady on the street has a black belt or not. But you can guarantee that everyone know how to defend themselves in hand-to-hand combat. Citizens of Asian descent tend to be fanatically loyal to the US and aggressively police Asian communities of every ethnicity looking for spies (think former Cubans living in Florida's attitude toward the loving the US and hating Castro in the first couple of decades after Castro came to power, except even more fanatical). Rumors are that Japan has been irradiating volunteers for decades in order to supplement their supply of superpowered beings. Western powers instead tend toward having highly-trained spies and soldiers who have a lavish amount of gadgets and technical support with fewer actual supers. Japan controls about half of the world population and has a much larger conventional army. The West, including Imperial Russia, has a more technologically proficient army and lots of nukes...which they are terrified to use for obvious reasons.

  19. Lucas's final decision on those points, to hire a tall Ewok to play Chewbacca and short Wookies to play the Ewoks, ultimately satisfied no one.
  20. Some people think bleeding is a fashion statement.
  21. Sorry, I took that to be part of some kind of backpack since that looks to be an extremely awkward position for a pistol that's longer than her forearm and hand together.
  22. That's a heck of a lot more than I remembered. If it were me, I'd be less worried about what Malvans believe about it and more worried about what Firewing believes about it. I could get away from the Malvans by leaving their planet. Getting out of the reach of Firewing is much trickier unless your plan is to permanently leave Earth and go into hiding elsewhere.
  23. You aren't wrong. But memorizing the chart in the quiet of your home is a lot different than accurately remembering the chart during your tenth hour at a convention. I've never done anything other than old school in FH. Is it possible to do the bigger weapons with the standard 1-3 multiplier but have the smaller weapons do the d6-1 multiplier? Would that give the chance for the smaller weapons to get the higher STUN results often enough to make them competitive but not make the bigger weapons way over-powered in comparison?
  24. His multipower is flawed, in my opinion, because all the slots are attacks. In an 80 point multipower, there's no configuration he can use that would let him use more than 60 points in any phase, unless I'm missing something. !) You could reduce it to a 60 point multipower and spend the 13 saved points elsewhere. Or... 2) You could change the Hand-to-Hand attack slot to a straight +20 STR bonus (or +15 STR at 0 END cost). That'd at least increase his casual strength when he's using the ranged powers. 3) Put in a 20 point defense power. You could do a 0 END force field, Missile Deflection, etc. 4) Put in a movement power, say a flight boost slot, something like megascale or buying the rest of the reduced END cost. And i do want to say that I'm really enjoying this thread.
