Old Man
http://xkcd.com/1335/ I'd like to see some enforcement for the "rude to call" hours.
Sociotard
come to think of it, that would make a fun App. When you made a call to somewhere outside your time zone, it would check the time difference if possible, and if the phone was in the rude to call range, notify you and ask you to confirm. "That phone is at 3 AM. Are you sure you want to place this call?"

Cancer
It's a test stand for apparatus that goes on telescopes. For a long segment of development, all you need is a functioning telescope to ensure the instrument can function while bolted to the back end of a tracking telescope, and measure an astrophysical source. It is much more convenient to have that initial test stand on your roof (no matter how crappy the site) rather than in the Canaries, or on Mauna Kea, or in Chile. Cancer
A number of times folks have found that what looked like a decent design wasn't stiff enough for the light to go always where it was wanted when the instrument was waved slowly around in the air, tipped (slowly) through a large range of angles in all directions. Probably the most embarrassing one I have heard of directly was the one that had the CCD cooled by liquid nitrogen, but when the telescope was pointed more than two hours past the meridian (that's 30 degrees west of due north-south) the coolant dewar was horizontal and all the LN2 poured out on the floor, so the detector warmed up and lost vacuum. To cool it back down safely is a multi-hour process, so that was the end of the night. Discovering this at the big telescope is rather an oops. L. Old Man
Marvelous Da7e #52: First Look At Baxter Building, Rosario Daredevil http://www.latino-review.com/news/marvelous-da7e-52 The elevator shaft should be central to the building for structural purposes. As should the missile silo. Frankly the missile silo is much taller than necessary, since missiles like Poseidon exist that are ejected from their launch tubes by compressed gas immediately prior to ignition. Relocating these should recover valuable corner space in the building. Also questionable is the distance of the server room from the computer lab. Those ought to be closer together, and in fact the computer lab should be moved down closer to the other labs. And where is all the HVAC for the server room? In fact where is the HVAC for the whole building? Cancer
