I used to live in the Netherlands as an USAF Dependent back in the 80s. There were exceptions, but most of the Dutch were friendly (Generational differences were the biggest thing, hardly surprising). Too flat for this mountain blooded boy's tastes, and the rain... it was a like a smooth Northwest state

Still, some beautiful buildings and so forth.

And in I wish this was shocking news... Baylor firing Football Coach amidst Sex Assault Scandal

Wow look!  A university actively discouraging women from reporting sexual assault.

The report also found Baylor administrators actively discouraged some complainants from reporting or participating in student conduct processes and in one case constituted retaliation against a complainant for reporting sexual assault.

One guy got 20 years. These aren't just 'allegations.'

The Iranian government has barred its citizens from taking part in the Hajj, an annual pilgrimage to Islam's holiest site and founding city -- Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

And it's that last bit is the problem. The only thing preventing you from saying Iran and Saudi Arabia are at war is that they are not shooting each other for the moment. Diplomatic relations were cut off after the Saudi embassy in Tehran was stormed (after the Saudis had executed a Shia cleric for what they claimed was terrorism -- a claim the Iranians dispute). Trade between the two nations has been completely cut off, and they are engaged in a Cold War of sorts with the Islamic Middle East in the balance.

The Hajj is one of the Pillars of Islam, an obligation that every Muslim with the means and capacity to do so is obligated to attend once in their lives. For the faithful, it is their lives' crowning moment. It also pumps billions a year into the Saudi economy. But there have been stampedes and police actions over the years where people have been killed -- a seemingly disproportionate number of them Iranians. With no diplomatic ties, Iranian pilgrims have no embassy or consulate to contact if they get in trouble.

Sorry, it wasn't a snide comment: it's just a different manifestation of the same phenomenon, AFAICT.

Well, now its in the entitlement thread and that's all on you, man.  You have to live with that responsibility, so there.  :)
