Apparently, Walmart saves money on security, by calling the cops.

A lot

Given the way they treat their employees, I wonder if any of them actually cares that much if someone walks out of there with a TV, much less a candy bar or pound of ground beef. I imagine many of them have Jane's Addiciton on their playlists.

But this sort of thing seems to be a core part of Walmart's business model, which seems to be keeping their expenses as low as humanly possible, ideally by making other people take care of things they could take care of themselves were they willing to spend the money (like security or making sure their labor force gets by on essentially starvation wages).

Nile crocodiles in south Florida

From a different source: "Much of the hunting of and general animosity towards Nile crocodiles stems from their reputation as a man-eater, which is not entirely unjustified."

They're apex predators from the dawn of time accustomed to ambush hunting terrestrial prey and they never got the memo that humans are dangerous. If something sticks its head over their watering hole they'll take a shot at it - lion, zebra, cattle (mostly cattle), person: It's all just food to them.  They literally kill hundreds of people a year (yet the sharks get all the movie deals).
