  1. Re: Ants Antennae True but isn't that is what the tiny bones in our ear do? Sense vibrations in the air they send the signals to the brain to be inerpreted as to sound? And sound does have a wavelength hence a vibration.
  2. Re: Do You Allow Damage Reduction for Other Defenses? What if he gave damage reduction for flash a discount? Perhaps at 10 points? The idea of reduction is intriguing.
  3. Re: Compound Eyes True and I think that bugs really can't either. And if they can, imagine the image with with your one eye and try it with two, alittle more confusing . (You know scientist tell us how animals see, wonder if they do the same thing? )
  4. Re: Character Idea fishing... How about the Liberian can have powers based off of fictional characters? When she need to be a detective, she reads Sherlock Holms, a great warrior she reads Hercules. Need and archer? Robin Hood or crossbow expert, William Tell.
  5. Re: Compound Eyes Also iirc while the compound eyes are great for targeting I don't believe that they can focus too good so they see little detail. Try looking through one of those cheap clear kalidoscopes? You see abut 4 to six images of something, so maybe a penaly to perceive fine detail?
  6. Re: Titanoboa Susano wouldn't the suffaction power be eaiser built by buying it as HKA NND (defense the same as chikehold) and linked to grab or appropriate limitation to grab?
  7. Re: Weapon Creation: Boom'aDagger'Rang Well if its heoric ID then i daoubt that the other modifiers do apply. Of course ymmv.
  8. Re: Effect of Flash on Sense of Touch Pretty much as Christopher said for 5th rev (which hopefully is the same as 5th ). In 5th rev its found on pages 351-352. It still doesn't make you immune from pain or reduce damage.
  9. Re: Spider powers activate! But remeber though that human senses are not all equal either. We get more free from sight than from touch. And like I said there was a debate about what partial gives you versus full discrimanation. (Which i'm trying to avoid )
  10. Re: Spider powers activate! Two things, first when suggesting powers and builds, I'm assuming because its under the Champions thread then the build can be allowed to be more supery than a "realistic" build. And second, I knew about the partial discriminatory and also that there was a fracas over exactly what partial and full discriminatory gave so erroring on the side of caution, that's why I suggested the full discrimination (to save on arguments ). To me fwiw I see the partial only telling you yes or no. Either there is a vibration or there isn't. With full discrimination the PC can distinguished between light and heavy vibration (a child versus a really heavy person) and maybe a rough number. Also perhaps the PC should have tracking only on web? That could be nasty!
  11. Re: Heroes to Villains I've seen the old Champions third edition where they had both a hero option and a villian option for the characters. So for my daughters villians I used Crusader (in 4th he is a hero) made him a villian and just renamed him. Heck just about any hero could be a villian or vise-versa. I also modified Mongoose for the basis of being a hero.

  13. Re: Force Wall and limitations Considering darkon is a villian- I don't see lose power for a day to big of a problem. Plus with ablative lowering the defense would make it easier to break the wall. I assume then if she lowers his value say to 12 ed then knocks him out, he can reform the wall later that day at 12 ed? Or once its shattered its done for the rest of the day?
  14. Re: Force Wall and limitations Christopher- as to edition you are correct, its going to be fifth ed rev. Now if I understand you and using the previous example: Darkon has 16 ed if its ablative and lightning girl attacks with her 10d6 ed. Potentially the eb can do upto 20 body so if hits then the force wall loses 5 act pts which should lower the ed to 14. (I think the term potential is what threw me off)
  15. Re: I can't decide what to run! Which of these sounds fun? another option if someone can do the wayback machine (I could never get it to work), is to find the Shou Zhan Chuan Temple and the Shou Zhan Knight Training by Bryan Salois. The synopsis is that the earth has a nexus which all kinds of bad and evil things cross into this world and can only be defeated by martial arts. What is neat is that in the training he describes how a person is selected to be a initiates and has power levels ranging from form the initiates, recommended 50-100 pts upto full knights, 200-250pts (this is set in 4th ed). Its pretty neat and it can give you the flexibility to start small (rules wise) and grow to how you see fit.
  16. Re: Weapon Creation: Boom'aDagger'Rang Okay to be clear, I was suggesting either restrainable or OIF not both
  17. Hello All, I had an interesting battle yesterday with The Amazing Darkon and (my daughter's character) Lightning Girl. Now I used Darkon straight from the book (3rd ed) and the Force Wall is 8pd 16 ed. Lightning girl has a 10D6 eb Lightning Blast. As it goes (by the numbers) she couldn't damage the force wall at all. the closest she got was 13 body. Now Im going to update Darkon to 5th rev. and seeing that he takes a limitation on himself vs. Light based powers, I feel that it would be appropriate for his force wall to take a limitation also vs light based powers. According to the book, a limitation available to all defense powers is ablative. Im not quite understanding though the simple form of ablative. I thought that you just subtracted from the defense the body done until you reach zero. I.e taking the 16 ED from above, if the first hit did 10 Body, then the defense would be reduced to 6 Ed. Is this correct? Another option would be to give it vulnerability limitation from entangle power. It seems to me that it is implied that this limitation is only for entangles, but in this case, it would be appropriate to the Force Wall. Thanks in advance for your opinions! (P.s fwiw, she rammed him and after I remembered that he only had a 8 PD, knocked him ou!)
  18. Re: Cassandra's Corner Not a bad idea, several years ago, I was thinking on how to build the "18 Shaolin Monks" as a single character sheet. Certain attacks would be bought as area effects to represent the 18 monks. Another idea worked on and shelved, never to fruition.
  19. Re: Cassandra's Corner Thinking of this too, you it doesn't have to be this way. One suggestion would be that all vehicles and such take a limitation vulnerable to super powers. (Not everyone likes this idea, but if your running the game...) That way you wouldn't have to ramp up the damage levels so high to be effective. Also for tanks and such you could just lower the body needed to break the things. Just cause its in the books doesn't mean you need to take it at that value.

  21. Re: Cassandra's Corner Cassandra, this point is something I've been thinking about lately. On how we buy things out of habbit more than special effects. For example, if you describe a sword, how often do we leap to OAF automatically? I kinda realized this when I built a belt gadget for Orb. My gut instinct is that it should be OIF, but (as in some old cartoons) I wanted it to be grabbed so it could be taken away by the hero, so i built it as OAF so it would be easier.
  22. Re: 4th String Villians Yeah! Well I'll agree to disagree. I even made my own heroclix modified for Sledge. Fwiw, I made a Hero named Jackhammer who was created by the same evil doctor who made Sledge, Piledriver, (and I swear there was a third similar villian)
  23. Re: Weapon Creation: Boom'aDagger'Rang Instead would reestrainable fit the bill better?
  24. Re: Gremlin Hugh, you keep harping on talking to the GM about power levels. That's all well and good, but not all GMs give specifics that you are looking/asking for. Last year I build a Pulp Hero character with very little info. I'm not saying that this is the best method by far, but it does happen. (my character did fairly well too!)
