  1. Re: The Chessman - a re-write Killer Shrike, I've been in games where they don't give any such information. I think its assume to use the campaign guidlelines listed in the book. (Last year I created a Pulp hero with less information than that). It can be annoying, but its not the players fault. (P.s. hope I don't sound like I'm harshing on you, but I've seen other people get indignate because a poster didn't list any of the above information, and its not hte posters fault.)
  2. Re: 4th String Villians Yeah! Frisbee, need I say more?
  3. Re: I can't decide what to run! Which of these sounds fun? Obviously you'll want to run something you like and the players like. But since you seem to indicate that you haven't run anything yet, I would suggest Left 4 dead. As you noted, its set at the heroic level so alot of things you don't have to build (unless you want to) the pcs, if new don't have to worry what to build. Note though that there are some optional rules used by typical heroic games which you may not want to use right away. For example, hit location roll adds flavor, but an additional rolls and calculations. Perhaps instead of Dragonball Z power levels, try it at the heroic level and then once you get the feel for it, you can then do a power jump and go full blast Dragonball. Once you get the basics down, adding optional rules is easier. Good luck and post us if you need anything.
  4. Re: Horror Hero That's what I was going for. Now to be fair, we never got to do this, so its only theory.
  5. Re: Balancing social skills and role playing One thing that should probally be enforced is combat options that are limited by character conception. Remeber the line in beastry 4th for Orges "Teknik, what's that?" If I have a character concept that's not familiar with combat or tactics, and as a player I start using all the fancy combat manuevers, then as a GM I should say no. (or at least make an INT roll to see if he can think of something like.) On the flip-side, if the character is a combat (ahem) monster, and the character pulls a stunt that's not reasonable then the GM should suggest to the character a better option.
  6. Re: Martial Arts Disarm maneuvers As for DI/heavy weight, that was added in Ninja Hero 4th so as Alston stated, you don't have normals throwing around 700 lbs mecha. But technixcally you can throw anybody. And for breakfall and acrobatics, you still need to buy them and need to make a roll. Even if you buy clinging to resist throws, it still at a minimum requires a str vs str roll to resist. As I said, throws when hit, automatically succeed. This does lead into why I wouldn't allow martial disarms to resist disarms. Just about everything else requires a seperate skill. So I would build a resist disarm manuever.
  7. Re: Balancing social skills and role playing I repped Hugh for you Derek. He said what I was thinking.
  8. Re: Martial Arts Disarm maneuvers But you know Derek, the same arguement can be made for throws too. If I make my roll, I automatically throw you to the ground regardless of how good you are. (For realistic genres, this seems odd). And for anti-disarm, I came up once upon a time manuevers labeled Resists and I had a manuever that can be aborted to that resisted disarms. I believe I modeled it on the root manuever.
  9. Re: Weapon Creation: Boom'aDagger'Rang Oh and I forgot to mention that there isn't one "right" way to build it. For example I don't like strength that adds to thrown weapons (for example) but that doesn't mean that erkenfresh is wrong, just not the build I would use because of preference. Another hint is build it a way that you think it should work, and don't be afraid to modifiy or totally rebuild it if need be! Have fun!
  10. Re: Balancing social skills and role playing My view on rolls is that whle I encourge roleplaying, rolls can and should be made to suppliment the game. I can bumble a speech something fierce, yet with a good oratory roll, I still can "sound" as a smooth speaker. I especially use this approach to deduction rolls. I had a friend who admitted during game, he couldn't figure out where to go with the info I gave him (it was a solo game), he made his deduction roll and I told him some insights he got. And the game proceeded fine.
  11. Re: 4th String Villians Yeah! I always was going to make a villian named the Bowler. A guy who has tk and uses it in the form of a bowing ball, and having armor/costume in the form of a bowling pin. I must now make him!
  12. Re: Weapon Creation: Boom'aDagger'Rang Well the some questions. (And these are to help to define the power better) Is only when thrown that you want it to teleport back? then Just buy the abilitiy as a RKA. The special effect is that the dagger does come back automatically.
  13. Re: Famous Martial Artists in the Champions Universe? Balls of steel technique?
  14. Re: Famous Martial Artists in the Champions Universe? And nobody named Hercules from WotD? He's a media hound as written so he would be in the movies too!
  15. Re: Famous Martial Artists in the Champions Universe?
  16. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Been watching Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series. As for movies, saw Ong Bak 3 which might have made more sense if I watched (2) first.
  17. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I've always enjoyed these films. I'll rate them higher than alot of the new stuff Hollywood puts out today.
  18. Re: Elephant's Strength Speaking of elephants, I saw one of those when animals attack shows and it showed a poor zoo keeper trying to shut the gate before the elephant lefted. Well the knockback must have been 15-20 feet into a building! Fwiw, I believe the last season of Deadliest Warrior had elephants in it, and showed the results of a poor soldier getting crushed by one. But I don't know if 9D6 would be enough to seriously hurt some heros at the heroic level.
  19. Re: Famous Martial Artists in the Champions Universe? Nightwind? How about Seeker! Now there's a martial artist for yay!
  20. Re: Power Word Ni! Wouldn't does knockback (or knockdown) be appropriate too?
  21. Re: Horror Hero It could be a ymmv thing but I know some gamers that you could have a more powerful red shirt bumped off, and they still would have no fear. They think that their characters have plot immunity.
  22. Re: Beware of late night commercials.....
  23. Re: Help with Golden Age scenario Actually for a martial arts type macguffin there was a Golden Age hero who discovered a secret yogi book where he developed the strenght of 100 elephants, super speed, and I think flight. imagine that book falling in the wrong hands! Now let me see if I can dig up a link. Here is the link http://pdsh.wikia.com/wiki/Strongman_(Holyoke)
