  1. Re: Character for Review: Gizmo A few observations: The character has very high physical characteristics for a gadgeteer (not to mentionn a diabetic). Is she an athlete, or have artificially augmented stats? On the other hand you didn't take the Normal Characteristic Maxima disad so maybe it's intentional. A character with six science skills is probably college educated so you may want to give her some non-science PS and KS to round out her education. Having recently observed a close friend's battle with adult onset diabetes, I'd take it as a Physical Limitation rather than a dependence. Diabetics don't just need insulin, they suffer constant health problems associated with varying blood sugar levels, poor circulation, reduced healing ability, etc. I'd rate an insulin dependant diabetic as Serious/Frequent (15pts) on average.
  2. Re: How Long to Learn Hero System? Ask one of your experianced players to get together with you one on one to playtest rules that you find confusing. Have HIM run you through a combat or two with a pre-generated character until you feel you have a grasp of whats going on. For that matter, see if one of them will act as your assistant rules GM during your first run. You don't have to know the rules to show your players who's boss!
  3. Re: Rep? Thanks guys! Now I have TWO pathetic green Rep dots... (Oh well, I'll take what I can get! )

    Illiteracy...

Re: Illiteracy... My father never had more than a third grade education. He used to have me read intructions, had his taxes done by a service, got clerks to write checks that he would sign, etc. It's amazing what you can accomplish by appealing to people's good nature and knowing how to talk to people.
  5. Re: Rep? I just realized. In two years I have acumulated 98 posts and one single sad little green dot of Rep. How sad is that? I'm not even a very good lurker as I keep makeing comments like this! By the way, it say's I have 52 points of rep. Is that 52 people repping me? Or do you get rep in blocks?

    HELP from Italy!

Re: HELP from Italy! You will need only regular 6-sided dice to play Hero System. The more the merrier.
  7. Re: PREDATORS -- What Do *You* Want To See? How about a 1%'er Motorcycle Club?
  8. Re: Powers of a Roman Catholic priest? An important thing to keep in mind when dealing with christian theory in games is the distinction between rituals and divine blessings. Priests know how to perform rituals (a kind of holy spell or ceremony) through thier own faith and knowledge. God granted powers (like laying on hands and resurrections) are the province of saints and prophets. The powers are granted to them (whether they like it or not). A priest can't learn how to do these things, he has to have the power dropped on his head.
  9. Re: Roman Martial Art, comments please If Fencing gets its own MA writeup then Roman tactics certainly deserve the same treatment. The one thing that distinguished roman soldiers from the barbarians around them was thier tactics and relentless training, and a MA (and a the accompaning skill set) is an excellent way of representing that in my opinion. Good work. I'd use it.
  10. Re: Starting from 8's in Primary Characteristics Lowering starting STR to 8 may fix the lift problem, but it really aggrivates the weapon STR minimum problem. It's hard enough explaining why city guardsmen have STRs 5 pts higher than average to cover thier weapons without makeing it 7 pts!
  11. Re: End cost on MA 1) your pay for your STR normally 2) Talents don't cost END unless the description states otherwise 3) MA don't cost END (Curses, beat to the punch!)
  12. If suppress is used against a "flat value" power like Invisibility, do you have to suppress all the AP in the power to shut it down? Assume I am Invisible to Sight group for 20 points, and have no Fringe adder for +10 points. Total = 30 AP. If I'm hit with 2d6 Suppress (roll = 7), does my Invisibility shut down immediately because I'm at 23 AP? or do I stay invisible until I have no AP left in my power?
  13. Re: One of my PCs wants to become a US law enforcement officer The problem is: an agency under the jurisdiction of the DOD can't legally enforce civilan law. That's the job of the justice dept I believe. I could easily see multiple super agencies though (often at each other's throats). The US Marshall's service is the most likely agency to be put in charge of transporting and detaining supervillans even is they aren't the ones who caught them in the first place.
  14. Re: Gay and Bisexual Superheroes The games I've run and played in have had an amazing number of bi-sexual women PCs. I used to put this down to male player fantasies, but all three of the female players in my current game group are bi in real life, so what do I know. Personally, I couldn't stand to play in a game that didn't at least address PC sexuality, moral quandaries, or other real life issues.
  15. Re: The Meta X MR Wild Card Gene Syndrome Virus is Female Dominant! LOL! I had a simular problem: I have such a rep for playing female characters (well) that when doing char gen for a new game one of the girls in my game group said out loud " You're playing a guy? Whoa! " So I checked my character archive and made a list of all the characters I had played in group games with her. It was 5:1 male to female, but all she remembered were the female PC's.
  16. Re: First Supers in the World campaigns I often run this kind of game setup because I hate having to create a whole world full of superhumans and thier history from scratch! The biggest problem I've encountered is establishing superheroic genre conventions like costumes, codes against killing, etc. People in first hero settings often take a "realistic" or "practical" stance on how to deal with society, villains and the government (i.e. they act like Iron Age character, running amuck without regard for the consequences of their actions.) I solved this in one game by haveing people get powers after returning from the dead (ala Elementals). Heroes put on masks because thier secret IDs were legally dead, and even villains were reluctant to casually kill as they never knew when a victem might come back with super powers.
  17. Re: Sex as a skill Not according to the book. PS can cover just about any practical (as opposed to theoretical) activity, such as playing musical intruments, sports, crafts, and hobbies, as well as vocational skills. PS can also be used to define a specialty that would normally fall under a "real skill" (you get to roll your PS as complimentary). In my game group we have always bought sexual proficiency as a PS (often with an amusing name like "Sex Kitten". KS can cover specific techniques. While I agree that anyone who is willing and enthused can put in a good performance, a PS is the best way to represent someone who has a lot of experiance at pleasing thier partners and has developed "mad skills".
  18. Re: Alpha or Beta Gamer? I'm usually forced to be the Alpha by cirumstances. Namely that the other players are not competent to lead. I'd much rather be "best supporting player" than take charge, but whenever another player takes charge, they screw things up horribly.
  19. I just asked this of Steve, but I'll post it here in the hopes that someone already has the answer and can get back to me soon. (Game in 5 minutes!). How do AoE Mental powers work? Do you roll vs. ECV for each potenitial target, or against the hex's DCV of 3? I'm kind of amazed this didn't make it into the FAQ...
  20. I can't find any rules on how mental powers work with AoE. Do you make an ECV roll and compare it to each target individually? Does the target hex have an ECV?
  21. What exactly does persistent mean with reguards to Defense manuver IV and DCV levels? If a character has a 15 dex (CV 5) and 2 all combat levels, does that mean he's DCV 7 in his sleep? (Or DCV 2?) What if he uses his levels for OCV and is attacked from behind? Would he still get his levels for DCV if he had DefManIV?
  22. Lilian Marshall's DNPC son currently alternates beween the form of a 5 year old boy, and the most powerful superbeing in the campaign. She can't wait til he hits puberty!
  23. My group does this too (we called it "Bodycasting" for lack of a better term) but we include any well known celebrity or public figure, not just actors. My only current superhero PC looks like Niki Taylor (ex-model), and was inspired in part by Niki's real life drama (with the kids, divorce, and car accident). In the game, people have confused her with "Mindy Moleford". Of course, the question was who WOULD play your character in the movie, with my luck it'd be someone wholly inapropriate like Kirsten Dunst, or Kate Blanchet! (I really hate hollywood sometimes...)
