  1. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? New Pearl Jam, Worldwide Suicide. Probably not gonna buy the CD based on that, but it's not a bad song. Certainly better than the stuff played on the radio lately.
  2. Re: Desolidification, Always On... Except When It's NOT... I remember something, perhaps long ago, about inherent powers (like those on animals) but I don't see a modifier for it in the book. Am I imagining things?
  3. Re: DC versus Marvel: different styles They're closer together than they've ever been previously. Me thinks... DC does have the grateful populace. MARVEL has the fearful mutant-haters. DC at least pays lip service to ideals (or did). MARVEL tries to be grittier, with heroes doing things heroes shouldn't do. DC has a wealth of characters whose names end in "boy", "girl", "man", "woman", "lass", "lad", etc. MARVEL has some too, but not to the degree (and definitely not the lasses and lads). DC seems to run on a higher power scale as an average. JLA are god like. MARVEL is still strong, but generally speaking the average character is below that in ability. Avengers aren't gods. Sounds like I'm a Marvel Hater, but truth be told, I'm more of a Marvel fan.
  4. Re: [Review] Asian Bestiary I Sadly I haven't made it past simply looking at the pictures. There's some great art in there, particularly the stuff up near the beginning.
  5. Re: Question about HA and Autofire Trying to jog my memory after reading the question above; The END cost still applies for the STR on each punch, correct?
  6. Re: New to game whcih books do I buy?? Hero 5th is pretty much required, unless you want to go the route of Sidekick, which is a cut down version of the rules minus all the extra options and weighs in at only $10. Not that I'm trying to talk you down from buying the 5E. 5E goes into tremendous detail that may be a bit overwhelming, but it sounds like you've got help from someone experience, so go for it. Champions and Champions Universe are pretty much setting books. Not required so much but still very good. CU is really more for the GM. In the same way that Equipment book is not necessary but has tons of pre-made weapons, "UNTIL Super Power Database" and it's sequal USPD II, are choc full of pre-made powers over varying levels and costs.
  7. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Blink 182 Singer/Guitarist Tom DeLonge has a new band called "Angels and Airwaves". Check out this video/film. I don't know much about the project but I like this so far. Two clips actually. The one under "The Adventure" has Brief Female Nudity, so you've been warned. The song is really catchy though. http://www.angelsandairwaves.com/Default_main.aspx
  8. Re: [Review] Asian Bestiary I Just posting to say I got mine from the FLGS. Haven't cracked it open yet. I too like the full page art, but I'm guessing it's a matter of economics that they simply adapt an interior picture to the cover.
  9. Re: Some thoughts on River Tam (Firefly) I'm SO glad to know I'm not the only one. I am guaranteed to have half a dozen typos. Many I don't even correct, not because they don't bug me, but because I connect to a remote computer from my desk in order to do posts, and there's a delay of a few seconds between when I type something and when it appears on screen. After a while it's not even worth the effort to back up five words to correct something.

    Re-Imaged X-men

Re: Re-Imaged X-men Those are pretty cool images. Not sure about the reapportionment and subplots of the team, but it underscores their very Iron-Age nature, so it works. Not the way I'd run 'em, but then if I was gonna change 'em that much I'd just go with another team entirely. Love the drawings of Iceman, Cannonball, Jean Grey, Rogue, and Juggernaut is just nasty!
  11. Re: Campaign cliche: The demise of the Champions My Current Campaing (5th City) is based around this entire premise, though the hero team wasn't the Champions, it was the Sentinels. -The original team was put together by the city's designer. -Their demise is still subject of debate. ---2 Died on the scene ---1 utterly vanished (Some say he never showed up for the fight) ---1 left in shame after the team imploded to continue traveling the dimensions. ---1 was "corrupted" and subsequently changed back. The team was dispatched to an office building down town that had increasingly become a nexus for odd events recently. (The subway that ran beneath had been flooded recently. An employee went crazy and stalked his office with a gun. A flock of birds flew into the windows along the south face.) This time around they had word that the people evacuated when a tremor was felt there but nowhere else in town, and a spectral figure appeared on the 18th floor. Eldritch, a time traveling mage, *may* have forseen the team's demise and not shown up for the fight. Muse, the team mentalist and empath was seemingly driven mad by some kind of evil force. Burn was crushed by an elevator that impacted at a speed greater than simple falling velocity. In a fight with an unknown assailant, Gossmyr was slain. Stonesphere was the lone fully in-tact survivor and the shame of it all drove him to leave this, his adopted plain of residence. The team founder, Nolan Brisbain, died a month later from what is believed to be grief over the demise of the team and the failure of his city to become a Utopia. His heart gave out in the night. This team was selected by the city council who put out the call for heroes to come and assist with their uncharacteristically high level of super-crime. The new team is wildly eclectic, featuring a Brick Rodeo Clown, a brain-sucking alien, an ex-bodyguard Martial Artist, Time-traveling steampunk scientist, Judge with Mental Powers, an ex-criminal vagrant, an egyptian avatar, and a disfunctional teenage pistoleer, among many others.. Their benefactor is Audra Blue, who owns rights to the superbase but does no adventuring (she's a shut-in hacker). Sounds like a recipe for insanity, but it works because everyone plays their character well and all see the common goal.
  12. Re: Introducing Scott Free Press! Sounds like a noble effort. You'll forgive me if I'm supsicious of anything that reaches me via the internet I'll have to look over the site a bit later when I'm a little less...oh... on the clock.

  14. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Spray on costumes rule!
  15. Re: Hit from behind I was asked this in game one time. My ruling was that you could only get the from behind bonus if... 1) You're flanked by another player (In other words you have players on both your front and back... 2) If you are already engaged with the target, you can only get to that spot AND get the bonus via surprise manuever of some kind (Acrobatics, 1st time you tport there, etc.)
  16. Re: Crazy campaign ideas (Silly or serious) The Central Casting products are the most insane thinsg I ever bought. If you want crazy, contrived chracters, this is your source. The fantasy one was so nutty I bought the other two
  17. Re: Weird Science Projects Saw a guy on morning TV years ago who was a collector of old medical devices (things that have all been proven to be useless). Can't find that book now because I can't remember the name. But it did get me to looking on the web. Lots of these are late 1800's... http://www.collectmedicalantiques.com/best.html
  18. Re: Hindu-themed hero Yeh, but where is my ABV1? I keep checking my local store. Isn't there some mythical beast charged with delivering it?
  19. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? The Curious George S/T by Jack Johnson. A friend at work loaned it to me so I thought I'd give it a spin.
  20. Re: The original 1934 Superman Strip Mom: "So how come you only made it large enough for the baby?" Dad: [Gets a puzzled look on his face] "Doh!"
  21. Re: Proditor's workbench (More Champs miniature stuff) Great work, naturally. And the tank looks perfectly suited. I've mostly been painting fantasy and vampire minis lately. Haven't done anything Champions-ish in a while. If I had a sense I'd be playing again sometime soon, I'd probably get back on it.
  22. Re: Champions Worlds I'm someone who buys everything Hero, even when I don't plan to use it. But I really have no use for another Supers setting. I like the current one, which I borrow from, rather than running verbatim; I'd use the Galactic Champions if either the characters got so high in exp that I couldn't handle them, or simply as a one-off. I wouldn't mind something like a remake of Champions in 3D because I love multiverse adventures, but a whole campaign book is overkill for me. I've got plenty with the existing city books. That said, I do have all the Fantasy Hero setting books to date, and I don't even run FH.

    Pulparize It!

Re: Pulparize It! LOST. A Musician, Convict in Transit, Doctor, Con-Man, Obese Millionaire, and a Man travelling with his son take an ocean voyage but are shipwrecked on a tropical island where they encounter a cunning and delusional French woman, a Polar Bear, an abandoned facility once used for some nefarious unknown purpose, and an unreasonable rival group seemingly shipwrecked from a previous voyage.
  24. Re: WWYCD: the Securitas Raid Certainly it would be investigated. First thing it to go over the city's many surveillance cameras for an accurate shot of the criminals, or at least their vehicle. Then attempts would be made to find the source of th vehicle (Stolen cop car? Car refurbished from a junk lot?) And audit of department uniforms would be done. Local stores would be combed to find out if the resources used to build such a uniform were purchased locally. Money going through banks in the campaign city is often fitted with a tracking device and a redudant tracking device. This would yield the opportunity at the very least to inspect the area where they ditched said devices. The crime is on par with the kind of stuff hanlded by 2 of my 3 heroes. The other being tied down with PRIMUS administrative duties that keep him from pursuing anything but the worst supercrimes.

    Death of Heroes

Re: Death of Heroes I've got to think that if Anthem died that she'd likely stay dead. But since there's a character in the city's superteam who can ressurrect people (if within an hour of death) then I have to think there's a chance she'd return anyway, depending on how set that player was on doing so. Uncle Slam is a special case. I've got a patriot spirit in game who consults American heroes who know how to call on him; He can't affect the real world. I think since he's been around since 1776 that he'd likely rest at last and Slam might take over his position; Or it might be a Yoda/Ben Kenobi situation with both appearing. Audra Blue I might make a special plot for. She's got a lot of cybernetics and spends most of her time online; So either a virtual version of her might exist only inside the 'net, or perhaps her consciousness might be downloaded into another body if properly equipped. Of the three, Uncle Slam definitely gets the big heroe's send off. Probably burial in Arlington, rather than in the campaign city. All the major heroes would be present. At Anthem's funeral would only be the team and perhaps, if allowed by the courts, her father, who is not as mental these days since he's on a coctail of medications.
