  1. Re: Transform into living spacecraft This, for me, would be a handwave. I would say "Shape-shift and growth, with growth linked to shape shift. The growth functions as normal, except he will not gain STR (this is not a limitation). Instead of allowing his STR to increase, his own life support and defenses will be automatically usable-by-others. None of the other ships systems, including sensors, weapons arrays, and flight controls will be usable by ot hers. It'll be like traveling in the belly of a whale (well, a whale with cable TV maybe.). If the character wishes, he can apply a +1/2 advantage (based on persistant) to different abilities to allow characters to use them while he sleeps, gets knocked out, etc.
  2. Re: Imposing disads or limitations... and Luck! I made a luck chart some time ago on excel. Do you have excel? If so, You might find it interesting. It shows the the odds of rolling 1, 2, 3, or 4 sixes with different numbers of luck dice (1-20). here, I'll try attaching it. *edit* okay, never mind. Apparently, Excel documents aren't allowed to be attached. Do you mind if I send it to your e-mail? I haven't checked your profile yet, so I don't actually know if your e-mail is listed there.
  3. Re: Imposing disads or limitations... and Luck! can you 'change environment' to unluck? I didn't think it was listed on the main set. I could see it working though . . .
  4. Re: Imposing disads or limitations... and Luck! Enhanced hearing/ sight (special effect is that whenever other people try to sneak around him, it doesn't work, because, as luck would have it, they just happen to step on a branch they didn't notice, or a random light falls on them, or they fart uncontrollably, or some such thing) Security systems (character might not see the lazer tripwire, but he never seems to step on it. Today they forgot to put new batteries in the weight sensor. you get the idea) Gambling skill. but that was obvious. combat luck. again, obvious. Summon friendly NPC (just bump into someone who's amicable to your cause without much persuasion, and just happens to have the security codes you need. One of the henchmen on your firing squad has a massive and inexplicable change of heart, and turns on his fellows)
  5. Re: Imposing disads or limitations... and Luck! Officially? You use a transform. Once I talked a GM into a little hand-wave that I don't think was too unbalancing. We bought Unluck as a power, then made it usable as attack (I made it ranged too, but that isn't essential). Think about it. Luck is, what, 5 points for 1d6? all it does is make good things happen to you. Now, with the +1 advantage, Unluck makes bad things happen to somebody else for 10 points. I think that works out to being fairly balanced. Another hand wave you could do (I've never done this one, only thought about it) would be to use a Drain Luck. This variant would first drain off regular luck, and as you drained on into the negative numbers, would instill unluck. Now that might be unbalancing, so I doubt your GM would approve, but it merits thought.
  6. Re: Arrows of the Gods Thanatos - God of death (later overshadowed by Hades) pain, and all consuming darkness - Arrow of darkness field with linked EGO attack Elpis - God of Hope - Aid to PRE
  7. Re: Arrows of the Gods I would make Helios the arrow with the flash. Apollo didn't get associated with the sun until later. He was originally associated more with prophecy/all seeing and plagues (Summon disease bearing insect swarm, or a ranged version of Combat Sense) Astraea- godess of justice - Arrow will not kill a just man (defined as someone who has not commited an act punishable by death according to the laws of the land. Meaning it won't do a d**ned thing in some states/nations/cultures) Aeolus- God of the winds - Change environment (windy) Momos- God of Satire - +4 to acting Mormo- Goddess of Biting naughty little children - +20 PRE, only vs. little kids Hygeia- Goddess of cleanliness- transform dirty things/areas into clean things/areas
  8. Re: Ultimate Wendy, Marvin and Wonderdog Interesting. Is this the namesake of the Marvin so frequently flamed on the NGD?
  9. In several Anime programs I've seen monk's carrying the same staff. It's got a metal circle on top, which is split down the middle by another band of metal. On either side are smaller metal rings. What is this staff called, and what is it's significance?
  10. Re: cannot be escaped with teleportation I find this odd. I can set up an entangle with the SFX of "I grab 'im", and then put the cannot escape w/ teleport advantage on (he's a mystic brick, or a gadgeteer with a phase modulation suppressor, or something), but I can't apply the same advantage to my STR or a grabbing HKA (like a wolf's bite)?
  11. Re: Monster Squad Ideas Okay, how about this. The PCs are a SWAT team being transported to a distant land to help train a new team for that land's police force. They are, for some reason on a big transport plane (I'm thinking a hercules), being hauled along with several other crates. One crate gets broken open and releases fiendish gremlins. As they hunt the gremlins, they find the 'limited paranormal equipment' you spoke of. It would make for an exciting combat environment.
  12. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I read Glory Season by David Brin. Very scifi. The idea is of a people who revamped their method of reproduction, after hiding on a secret planet and going pastoral as soon as their genetic mods were done. 1. If a woman has sex in the winter, she will produce a clone of herself. These clones develope their own estate and, because the original was very good at a given task, the reproductions are all pretty good at it, so they carve out a niche for themselves (a house of bankers, a house of potters, etc) In this way, they maintain stability (none of that "there was one great *blank* a thousand years ago, and none have reached her talent). Oh, and it does have to be heterosexual sex. 2. If a woman has sex in the summer, she produces a child the same way normal humans do. This is the only way men get born. They get sent to become sailors, one of the few 'acceptable' places of male employment. Females get an education, and are sent out into the world to see if the can carve out a new niche for themselves. In this way, they retain the ability to adapt to change. (a society of only clones would become stagnant and unable to greet change) 3. Women only get 'in the mood' in the winter. 4. Men only get 'in the mood' in the summer. 5. Women, specifically women from powerful estates, run the place. I really liked it, and it helped that it was written by a guy. I know it's wrong, but if I'd read a book like this written by a woman, I'd probably be offended.
  13. Re: Ultimate X-Men: Xavier is EVIL! It reminds me of the time Ult Spiderman (Now he, at least, has retained his super-morality) met the baldy. He brought him an emerging mutant to see if he could be helped. Well, turns out the guy wasn't a natural mutant, but had recieved alterations while in the womb, making him a display item for human mutant relations spidey: "Uh, when I brought him in, he seemed kind of mutant-phobic. I'm not sure he'll go for the idea when he wakes up." Xavier: "I'm afraid this isn't really up to him anymore. It's much too important" Spidey: *contemplates breaking the young'n out, till he gets a telepathic no-no from xavier* yeah, the gimp really is creepy
  14. Kay, a character can set up an entangle or part of a base as having the advantage "cannot be escaped with teleportation". Can it be applied to strength, or HKAs? If so, does it need to be applied to all the str, or will any amount do? I mean, if I just set up +STR, cannot be escaped with teleportation, only for grabs, and it's as good at keeping 'em from teleporting as applying it against all the str . . . As a related question: if a character has teleportation: usable as attack, and he steps in a gadgeteers 'bear trap' with a cannot be escaped with teleportation advantage, can he just teleport away with the bear trap on his foot?
  15. Re: Lowdown on the Xenovores? You can find two other xenovore critters in the Bestiary: the Warhound and *some kind of eagle looking thing whose name I can't remember* The Warhound makes a great Warg, for what its worth.
  16. Re: A contriversial "Would your character...?" Wow. Just Wow. Sire the child in public. You're running some kind of campaign. Wow.
  17. Re: A contriversial "Would your character...?" Are we assuming tech is available to enable men to bear young? 'cause all my boys is men. Okay, Colonel Jonathan Rebman would probably do it, unless the millions were all d**ned yankee's. Not sure how a possesed iron statue would concieve, but oh well. Jack: He's an imaginary person (litteraly. He is a daydream given life), but is utterly subject to the demands of a little girl, who would think that was too gross. No Way! Libra: Not even an organic life form, so there'd have to be a serious special effect going on. Uh, he just might. Helios: Ah, the sun god. He wouldn't, because he wouldn't allow his demigod progeny to grow up to be evil.
  18. Re: Spirit follower -- to AI or not to AI? I don't think you really need to use invisibility. As long as you don't define it as any kind of focus, it will always stay with you by default. You might apply persistant, so it can watch over you while you sleep, or concentrate, or what have you. I just mentioned defining it as a contact because I did something similar. The character, a large computer sent to observe humans over the centuries, 'saved' notable minds (geniuses, madmen, and so forth) as 'quantum ghosts'. Every now and then he'd run into a situation where the advice of one such ghost would be useful, and he'd try to call it up (of course, it was 11-, so there were frequent system gliches). I called it an organization contact with moderately useful skills: 9 pts.
  19. Re: Need Help With A Detect Thing of it is, I'm not sure this would be any good close up. Within the 1 km range, wouldn't it just say "yes, the person you seek is within 1 km of here", since megascale doesn't allow you zoom in and see detail? I mean, normally we use a 1" hex map, so each hex is 2 meters. so you use a normal detect, and it tells you which hex that object occupies. With megascale, it would tell you which 1 km hex the object is in, nothing more specific. You need telescopic to see in detail from far away.
  20. Re: Spirit follower -- to AI or not to AI? How about a Contact? AI sounds good to me, though.
  21. Re: Simple Request: Colossus Clone The only problem I see with the OIHD lim is that there must be a means of preventing a character from assuming the ID, and changing must take at least a full phase. Colossus changes pretty quickly, and I've no idea how to stop him.
  22. Re: Challenge Talent Build: Sleep with Eyes Open Cool Zeropoint! How did you keep going in a straight line?
  23. Re: Challenge Talent Build: Sleep with Eyes Open Oh, the character would be asleep, but a casual glance makes observers *think* he's awake. Images, maybe? Life support isn't a bad idea though.
  24. Re: Simple Request: Colossus Clone The guy is a poster child for Density Increase. Linked to it are X2 Hardened Armor (& maybe Damage Reduction), a few kinds of life support, and lack of weakness. Basically, just pile on the defenses.
  25. How would you define the ability to sleep with eyes open? Or, as a related talent, the ability to sleep while standing up?
