Warp9
Re: character images Originally posted by drrushing Great.................thank you all for your input, I do appreciate it. I do understand that some are just interested in viewing(and downloading), that's just the way it is. But for all that have responded, thanks again, if anyone has ideas, techniques or other topics to discuss about art, please post again. Here's another character of mine, from a 3rd Ed. AD&D game, my half-orc barbarian Taurin Maur. There has been a whole bunch of really great work posted lately. It’s nice to see this thread being so active. It kind of reminds me that I haven’t had the time to do much of my own work lately. As far as the critique angle goes, there was a different thread which focused more of that aspect. I seemed to get a little bit better feedback there. It would be nice to see that thread revived if people are still interested. I still think that this (the original art) thread is totally cool, but I believe that there is room for both threads. Anyway, if anybody is interested in reviving the critique thread–here is the link. http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6650
RPMiller
Why not just combine both threads here and start critiquing when people ask for good and bad comments?
Warp9
Originally posted by RPMiller Why not just combine both threads here and start critiquing when people ask for good and bad comments? There is nothing at all wrong with that idea. However, IMO there is a difference between the two threads. I guess that I always saw this thread as being about the subject matter (cool super-hero images). And I saw the other thread as being more about the artistic process of creating images (if I'd started the other thread, I wouldn't have even put it in the "champions" forum). If I want to look at cool images, without going through posts about the virtues of using various artistic techniques, this thread would be the place I’d go. But if my interest is more on the artistic process rather than the images themselves, the other thread might be better. Of course, maybe I’m the only one who sees it that way. You do make some valid points there. We'll see what everyone decides I suppose. Since I don't have much to contribute except oo's and ah's don't listen to my ramblings. lemming
Since I just posted this on the Spectrum Thread. This is a character of mine that Sam Bell drew. He did a lot of his work off of templates. He could whip something like this out in 15-20 minutes. Though he did freehand as well, but would take a lot longer. He had easily ~1000 characters written up with pictures.
Enforcer84
neat work. I still miss Sam, never met him face to face, but we discussed comic to hero conversions alot.
drrushing
character images Mangog- I really liked the ORCA picture, nice anthropomorphization. You could see the picture as the blending of an Orca and human. I liked the addition of the few odd black spots, giving the character a subtle originality. Good portait pic all around. drrushing
superhero images vs. artist critique I checked out the old thread. I liked the interaction between all that participated. Unfortunately, I think, BECAUSE this thread exists, most people won't look for the other thread. I think that this thread can perform both of the purposes. The artists that are truly interested in critique will interact with each other. The other individuals(who primarily just download and slip away like ghosts)won't hinder the creative process between those who choose to discuss techniques, and other subjects related to the creative process. As a bonus, I suppose, is that this page has a much greater circulation, and by default, is seen by many more people. This provides several benefits, first is that more people will be available to contribute and critique. Secondly, if any industry people scan through the images, they get an idea of the creativity and skill of the artists that do post. Skill and creativity are a basic must, but contact with the industry can get an aspiring artist a start. And finally, it's just plain fun to see all the different posts, the different characters, ideas, techniques and imagination that this thread inherently creates. drrushing
character image Here's a character of mine. He's been retired for a while. Two of my favorite characters have always been Spiderman and Iron Man. This was my attempt at an amagimation of the two. This is Scorpius, a power armored character with all arachnid inspired powers. Oh, one other note, without deliberately trying, I've posted several images that are cropped. Sorry, my scanner only takes 8 1/2 x 11 pages, most of my images are larger than this, so I placed the central mass of the character in the scanner. Anyway, here he is: Scorpius
RPMiller
Very nice drruching! Your use of color and motion within the picture really brings life ot the character. I might make a suggestion regarding your previous post. For those of us that are looking for potential artists for future products it is easier for us to scroll down a page and look at pictures versus clicking on each link. Understanding that some folks have slow modem speeds, I think they are willing to live with the download times besides that, a page will continue downloading as they are reading text and whatnot. Are you familiar with posting the picture in the body? Just in case you don't know here are the instructions I wrote a while ago: 1) Make a post, and attach the picture 2) Click on the link to the picture 3) Copy the URL from the new window that opens with the picture. 4) Edit your post by typing in <img src=" than paste the URL from step 3, and then type "> 5) Submit the edit. There you have it.

I really like the look of the extra limbs on Scorpius, and the blue & white for the costume is very appealing to the eye
Magmarock
Wow! Scorpius is very cool. Nice work on the musculature, and the shading is very smooth. The fore-shortening is very well done, too. Nice job! Mags
Hermit
Okay, the Scorpius art is great! I should check this thread more often.
schir1964
Wow! All I have to say is that when I started this thread I had no idea that it would create such interest and continue to grow as it has. I'm also pleased that many have found it useful. - Christopher Mullins
Wildcat
Re: Scorpius Wow drrushing, you really knocked my socks off with this one. I LOVE it. the art is clean and crisp, the shading is excelent, and the colors work so well together. As for that other thread, I agree that there is no need for it, and that since this thread is so well established (hell 70+ pgs) and tons of people subscribed to it, that here would be a better place for feedback, when asked for. Granted there are alot of Lookie Loos, and lurkers here and you don't always get an answer to a ask for Opinion, but it's still better than having to keep track of two threads. (Not to mention that the other thread, no matter how it turned out, was started as a personal dig against me) Keep up the Great work (and I mean ALL of those who have been posting) and keep Posting your Pics. We'll keep this thread near the top WC

Desdinova
Hey kiddies.. I like what I have seen..now I must show my creations off (if thats is ok) Blok, a character originally created by me in 1988 for Heroes Unlimited, he mutated along the way to Champions 4th Edition and Villains & Vigilantes. Bruticus, Walker of the Wastes <-- Wendigo inspired villian for Champions & Villains & Vigilantes a Creation of Ingen Corp. (appeared in my champions game first as a "hostile" later it is revealed it has intelligence to some degree and the delusion that it is a small furry house pet)

Wildcat
Thrash (A new Look) OK 1st off, Bump!! Now that, that is done. On to my new Pic of Thrash. This is my 2nd pic of the Character Thrash in my Neo-Dawn Campaign. Thrash is the team's Brick, and is also the team's glory hound, and media darling. But he's gone through a bit of changed lately (became a father of Twins namely) and is looking to project a more mature image. So gone is the MnM Haircut, and bleached hair, shaved the goat, and might just wear a shirt from time to time. So here is the new Thrash, in B&W. I'll be colorign this one in in Photoshop today, so I'll post it when I'm done. WC
Wildcat
Thrash (A new Look) Colored! OK Photoshop was kind, and I was able to get this pic colored today. I decided that I'd color it in 2 ways. 1st with no shirt and showing all the tats, that Thrash normaly has. Then one that was a bit more respectable, with a shirt. I'll post the one with the shirt 1st, then one with both. I'd really like some feedback as to which one looks better. WC
Wildcat
Thrash (Shirt vs Tats) OK here's the side by side for you to choose between. Let me know WC PS: Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I did this drawing based on a template posted by Magmarock back on 10/29. Thanx Mags
Blue
If I'm being attacked by bikers I'm not sure I'd call THIS guy for help I like the one with the shirt better. I take it he's got a lucrative contract w/Mountain Dew? I have only one ever advertisement, back from the days when "Choice of a New Generation" as a slogan would work real well with superhero endorsers. I like the one with the shirt better myself, only because he doesn't look mean enough with the shirt off. He's got that kind of "Don't mess with me" look, but his facial expression doesn't really make him look dangerous. With the shirt on, he's a good looking super with a smile on his face. Maybe you can tweak the shirtless facial expression, make him look a little meaner or something?
