Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster

My pet peeve is "don't end a sentence with a preposition." Chaucer ended sentences with prepositions. Shakespeare ended sentences with prepositions. The editors of the King James Bible ended sentences with prepositions. no one could diddle the words like the Elizabethans' date=' so if you want me to stop ending sentences with prepositions come up with more venerable examples of English than Shakespeare and The KJV Bible.[/quote']

That kind of nonsense is just the sort of thing up with which I will not put!

Because that's clearer and more easily understood, right?

Reminds me of a joke...

An American in London stops to ask a man for directions. "Excuse me, but can you please tell me where Big Ben is at?"

The Englishman gets all indignant and replies, "Sir! I'll have you know that we speak English properly, here! And we do not end sentences with prepositions!"

So the American replies. "I'm sorry, let me ask again: Can you please tell me where Big Ben is at, @$$hole!"

I've heard that joke, only involving Harvard.
