What happens in Vegas...

Your character and company are in Los Vegas, Nevada (insert character appropriate reason here). Your visit has been uneventful right up until you receive word that a gang of violent thugs with submachine guns and a couple of low-powered villains are holding up a nearby cassino! You and your party make quick work of the hoodlums, but one thing vexes you: an NPC superhero who was supposed to be working with you and your party was a no-show at the cassino robbery despite several attempts to contact him via communicator/cellphone/whatever.

The "hero", we'll call him Captain Zapper, is notorious as a world-class gloryhound and lecher. True to form, when you go back to the hotel looking for the jackass, you're told he was last seen chatting up some leggy blonde at the bar and the two of them went upstairs together. Sure enough, you find the familiar Do Not Disturb sign on the door to the Captain Z's room, and judging by what you can hear on the otherside of door, the two of them are in there and still *ahem* "going at it."

Re: What happens in Vegas...

Tamlyn - Would walk into the room (break it open if necessary), leave the door wide open and watch. If they keep going at it, (doubtful) she would sit on the bed most likely getting in the way. if the question, "what are you doing?" came up she would reply, "understanding what was worth ignoring the call to your duty." And after this incident she would then she would proceed to follow him everywhere, to ensure that he is always able to get to where he needs to be on time.

Re: What happens in Vegas...

Badger- Probably wouldnt go up there, he could guess good enough what was going on. Next day, challenge him to a fight. (yes, you heard right). It should be mentioned that the tension between him and Badger would be very strained as it was, once Badger had found out about the glory hound thing. Nothing else a fellow hero can be in Badger's eyes.

Frosty Bob- ok, he is a lecher, though not a glory hound (he fights for pure thrill of it) Might fight him because he got the hot chick instead of him. But, for the most part not have anything to do with him, again. Bob may have planned in advance and set up a camera in Glory hound's room, result Bob makes some money off the video. :sneaky: (hey I didnt say Bob wasnt unscrupulous)

Re: What happens in Vegas...

Soulbarb: not really her kind of scenario; she would avoid the publicity of a fight in a casino in Vegas like crazy for fear of causing a panic.

Sylph: As Sylph, would be too embarrassed by the sounds she'd heard coming through the door to intrude. As Maenad, would break down the door and join in. ;)

Re: What happens in Vegas...

I'd just leave him be. If my team was in Vegas and the Zapper got lucky so be it. We took that risk bringing him along anyways. Next time we leave him at HQ. We also do a background check on the woman, if she was an agent or woman of paid leisure Cap Zapp is so fired from the team. "Aegis" our information gathering super and sensor platform guy should be able to run a DNA sweep of her from a distance. Also "Phantasia" our resident Mentalist should be able to get a mind scan for a named identification. After the background check we should be able to determine if he or the team is in any danger from his acquaintance.

However as a point to be made I'd have the team make an Audio & Video recording of the event to use in the next meeting, on surveillance techniques. This would be within the normal powers of our team to do and cause some humiliation or some embarrassment to Cap Zapp as well.

Besides the GloryFox can handle anything! Just ask him. A bunch of low powered supers and normals.... pff.... (GloryFox suffers from extreme overconfidence anyways.)

Furthermore during any press conferences later when I get asked the question where is Cap Zapp my reply would be "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas". If pressed on the issue GF would reply "He was plugging in for a recharge" and "no further comment".

Re: What happens in Vegas...

Apollyon: Unsure how he got hooked up with a guy named Capitan Zapp in the first place would likely ignore the event. There is nothing forcing most people to act like heroes, for this man that is what he needed at the time, the robbery was resolved no harm no foul. If the group of robbers had some kind of larger affiliation or if upon research after the fight they show a history of coordinated actions it may spark Apollyon's curiosity as to the circumstances of their meeting. Should Capitan Zapp's relationship with this person continue Apollyon may encourage him to research her background.

Fallout: Feel very uncomfortable and sulk, missing his body. (Fallout is consciousness trapped within a self contained collection of radiation. His body was destroyed just after college.)

Riptide: Not a member of my team? I don't care. I don't know why he's been foisted on me, but presumably it's because he has the exact right power to solve a problem. As long he's available to do the one thing he's here to do, I"m fine with him staying out of our way the rest of time. I'll use him and toss him.

Re: What happens in Vegas...

Juggernaut - Realizes that everyone can't be a hero 24/7. Since making quick work of the hoodlums (and being overconfident to boot), she wouldn't think "Captain Zapper" was needed to begin with. He can finish what he's doing.

Duo - would use his N-Ray vision to watch what's going on. Then again, he's just 14, so he might not be there to begin with.

Re: What happens in Vegas...

Well, War Wolf would know what the sounds mean, even if he can't make them himself (robot, don'tchuknow), so he'd simply roll his optics and move on. He wouldn't slander him on the precise issue of his womanizing, but would make sure that various superteam leaders know that he's 'unreliable' and 'unprofessional'.

Vixen ... well, she's only 16. This shouldn't be anybody she's involved with anyway, and she probably shouldn't be in Las Vegas. Despite that, being stood up (so to speak) at fight scene would irk her significantly. She'd probably go to Ghost powers, slip into the room, and do some poltergeisting. Some change environment (reduced temperature and 'creepy feeling') would ruin the mood.

leggy blonde? Probably not 3 then, she's exotically dark-haired for a Tanashim... Nonetheless, Vitus would probably think calling up a half-dozen great-dane-sized camel-spiders and kicking the door in would be a memorable coitus interruptus.

Zero, on the other hand, would blush, and if pressed do a deep mind-scan on the leggy blonde to check she was a plant by the bad guys.

Re: What happens in Vegas...

Mole- Would be more than a bit irritated with the guy, and not know why. If he had a moment to introspect, he might realize Captain Zapper is the sort of hero he might have grown into without the better influences in his life he's been lucky to have. That, and he just thinks heroes should be better than that. He certainly would never agree to work with the liar again.

GazeWould be tempted use mental illusions so that Captain Zapper would suddenly believe he was making out with a guy in drag. He would probably resist the temptation, but he'd be tempted. Regardless, what happens in Vegas staying in Vegas would mean Zapper would never get any respect in Vegas...as that's where the Saints are based.

Re: What happens in Vegas...

Volt would not go in, wait till the next day and give him a lecture. Would only work with him again in extreme conditions.

Olorin - Depends on his mood. Probably would cause his "privates" to turn bright electric blue through the door and also shrink to, well, you'll need a magifying glass to see it(lasts 24 hours). Then later talk to the guy and give him a royal chewing out, and unless the guy basically broke down in guilt, would let the world know what the guy did (he'd record it, visuals and all) Would never trust him again unless he broke down in guilt.

Black Tiger - Kick the door down and chew him out on the spot. Would not fight him unless he started it. Would not trust him again. Period.

Futurian - Smile and use his powers to lock him in the room and then call the press. He likes the media? Here they are! Let the fun begin!

What does it mean to be a hero?

Wow. A lot of these responses are very vindictive and petty. :straight: Is this what gaming has come to? Is Captain Zapper really so horrible if he's not at your beck and call while on a trip to Las Vegas? Is this how a "super" hero responds?

On the flip side, how can you blame Captain Zapper? How many t.v. show episodes have there been where "the beast with two backs" was interrupted by a phone call which either ruined the relationship or ended up being the last time they saw each other alive? Would you really stop or want your partner to stop bumping uglies because the phone rang? Maybe he did the decent thing and turned the phone off before he started. Don't be jealous because he has more stamina than you. :tsk:

He's supposed to be helping on a case, and he takes a time out to do something as meaningless and unimportant as the horizontal hokey-pokey. Certainly well deserving of derision and the charge of dereliction of duty.

Even if that was your option does it mean that he has to be there 24/7? Maybe eunuchs see sex as meaningless and unimportant, but the majority of humans don't. And well-deserving of mockery? Please, that's petty. "Dereliction of duty?" Did he sign a contract? Is he under oath? Or is he just a guy with powers that often helps? Spreading the word to other super teams that he's a derelict is selfishly vindictive. Heaven forbid next time something happens that you can handle without him he's sleeping or taking a shower.

Since you and/or your group defeated the hoodlums so easily maybe you shouldn't have "called him on the case" in the first place?

I'm definitely glad I don't game with many of the people who responded in such a harsh manner. :help:

Agreed, just because you put on the Spandex doesn't mean you're there for every crime. Besides everybody, even heroes needs some "personal time."

From the Original Post: "an NPC superhero who was supposed to be working with you and your party was a no-show at the cassino robbery", which indicates that he had agreed to be there ahead of time. So, yeah, he WAS supposed to be helping and he DID flake on his duty to knock boots.

Re: What happens in Vegas...

While some of my characters would take it in stride, let's face it: they're not the interesting ones to write about. So....

Jack Diamond would immediately make for Captain Zapper's apartment (if he's a local) or hotel room (assuming CapZap had the good sense not to use his own room for such an encounter) and make sure something valuable and obvious disappeared. When Zap complains about it later (and if he's lost one of his 'trophies', you can bet he'll be complaining), Diamond says something like, "Oh yeah, we had reports of someone burglarizing the area last night. We tried to call and have you check it out, but we couldn't get hold of you...."

Thunderstrike would be tempted to borrow a uniform and a room service cart. Returning to the door, he'd knock loudly and announce, "Room service! Champagne and strawberries for Captain Zapper and guest!" Oh, wait, the guy didn't tell the girl he was actually Captain Zapper? Oops, my bad.... :sneaky:

ColdFire would teleport beyond the door, lowering the temperature in the room 15 or 20 degrees. When Zap made to cover himself, she'd walk quietly over to him, lift his robe/towel/blanket/whatever, look, tilt her head, and frown slightly, and say, "So it's true what they say about shrinkage." And quietly turn and walk away.

Morningstar would break down the door, get right up in Zapper's face, and say, "Isn't this ironic? I was just telling the rest of the team, 'If he doesn't have a damn good reason why he ignored our page, he's screwed.'" [raises mace]

No he wasn't. What you've conveniently left out was the qualifying first sentence and the second sentence which gives new information. What you're changing is that this is his "duty" and that he's not a volunteer (which 99% of superheroes are).

Your character and company are in Los Vegas' date=' Nevada (insert character appropriate reason here). Your visit has been uneventful right up until you receive word that a gang of violent thugs with submachine guns and a couple of low-powered villains are holding up a nearby cassino![/quote']This implies that you're here for another reason and that the casino robbery is a crime "on the side."

Regardless of the "agreement," made prior to this, the majority of responses seem less than heroic and noble and on an even lower scale than what Captain Zapper was doing.

Methinks Morningstar doesn't know the meaning of ironic. ;)

Re: What happens in Vegas...

It sounded to me like the attack on the casino was an unplanned interruption, not whatever the group and Captain Zapper had been in Vegas to deal with. If he was ditching the group on the whole reason they were in town, that's more serious.

Shooting Star would be a little annoyed that he was a no show, but not enough to go looking for him. His personal life is not her problem - she has plenty of those herself. She doesn't really want to know. When they next met up, she'd be "Next time, make sure we have a way of reaching you in case there's a real emergency." It was no big deal - but if it had been a serious matter with better villains or a doomsday device or something, the group still would have no way of reaching him. But she wouldn't be comfortable with harassment of the Captain, because she doesn't want to be held to a 24 hour standard of readiness either.
