Re: A Thread for Random Musings

Our genius computer services department did it again. They decided to upgrade (aka break) our catalog computers during the busiest time of the week. Why didn't they do this, say, over night? You know, when we're closed? Two reasons as I can see.

1) That require that they disrupt their precious 9-5 hours. (Everyone in the library has a schedule that is flexible except computer services.)

2) That don't give a crap. They're not on the front line trying to deflect customer complaints and soothe tantrums. I think they're laughing.

God I hate this place.

There are those of you wondering where our esteemed president is.

I should tell you all now that she was deposed on July 4th by yours truely and I have been running things ever since.

I know that all of you were looking for a spectacular coup with lots of blood and violence but being sneaky I decided to do things this way instead.

Do please carry on as you are.

Just do so now in a climate of fear.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

OddHat was told via email his new computer would arrive today. All that has shown up so far is a DVD to prevent Spyware from DHL. I am sitting at home waiting for it to show up but I have a funny feeling it's not going to today, in which case one of us will have to sit at home every day until it does.

Well, at least this isn't Japan where packages could arrive at any time 24/7 practically.

Edit: We got our computer. It was sitting in the apartment office. Apparently no one considered it their job to tell us.

There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

In last night's dream, I was some kind of on-call exterminator. When my cell phone rang, I would leave the house and walk across the yard into another, partially-constructed house, which would be launched via an enormous catapult to the site of the reported infestation. I spent a lot of time finding the necessary equipment and wedging it into the frame of the catapult-house so that it wouldn't come loose when fired.

I wonder about my subconscious sometimes.
