Ten minutes ago, my wife tested positive.  She has a patient who has been off of isolation precautions for a week and a half who apparently was positive when he transferred in.  There is no chance that we haven't all been exposed.  Wife got tested because she developed symptoms yesterday.   I called work: I'm in quarantine, too, apparently.  Waiting till morning to contact the school to find out about the kids.

Unless we're being swerved, it looks like Godzilla's the villain in this one.  Sigh...I have no interest in that.

And I guess I'm in on the Yogurt and Sushi train as well. I don't have the same gross out rejection I do for Mayo /Sour Cream, but I don't like it. I've tried four kinds of sushi, best I get is "I can tolerate this but have no interest"
 
Not on the 'eat' list (In most states) but on the beverages? I cannot understand the obsession with coffee. The smell isn't bad, but I hate the taste. I have tried it with sugar and cream to soften it, but honestly no. Of all my dislikes, this is the one that has cost me the most in social circles. Coffee drinkers do not understand people who do not like coffee. Some have tried to assure me I just need the right type etc etc. the right blend. They are wrong. And I got flack at the office of yester year because I really didn't care whether there was fresh coffee or not. You would have thought I had let the sacred fire die and the white walkers were going to kill us all now, thanks to my neglect.

The author The Dark Herald is correct in identifying the virtues prudence, temperance, justice, and courage as important. However, he misses the mark in that they are not just for heroes, but are for everyone. This is why they are referred to as the cardinal virtues; cardinal here means basic/fundamental. 
 
For those looking for  more information: notable books on virtue ethics have been Alasdair MacIntyre's After Virtue, and Edith Hall's Aristotle's Way. Other notable virtue ethics scholars in the twentieth century were G. E. M. Anscome, Iris Murdoch (Booker Prize winning author) and Philippa Foot (inventor of the trolley problem). Since the late nineteenth century, many manuals/textbooks have been published on virtue ethics; some are online, and others are in print.  

I am finding these columns to be fascinating, and pretty on point about the traditional heroic values.  The latest one is on Justice, and the History of Zorro.

The Governor is the head of the serpent.  Utterly corrupt, greedy, and grasping.  He is however very intelligent and (depending on the iteration) is a man who with the help of the Capitan deposed Diego’s father as Alcalde.  Physically the least imposing of Zorro’s enemies, he is in some ways more dangerous than the Capitan due to his intellect.  Diego loathes him as a tyrant but needs access to him in order to foil his schemes.  While Diego feels that Governor is a very evil man, he is again restrained from murdering him by his sense of justice.  In his deepest heart, Diego wants the governor to be tried and convicted by the law and not removed by the actions of one lone vigilante.  (Depending on the version of the story, the Governor was allowed to go into exile provided he put Don Alejandro back in his proper place as Alcalde.)

But that was also the first class, so all the early players were up, including Cy Young.  He didn't make it.  Then you've got regional bias...much stronger back then.  Are Boston voters gonna vote for Ruth?  HECK no.  So saying "no one can possibly be deserving" is just a joke because it was never about "deserving."
 
But the BBWAA has always had its share of egotistical <bleep>s.  Mariano had everything...numbers, titles, awards.  Sustained *excellence* for well over a decade.  The reference standard for relief pitchers, GOAT by acclamation.  And a nice guy!!!  Even if you hated what he did to your teams, you still had to admire how he did it.  THAT is what it took to get a unanimous choice.
 
And the impact of bias is still out there;  Jeter didn't get a unanimous vote, on a weak ballot.  The only other player voted in, was Larry Walker, and he barely made the threshold.  So you can't argue "there are 5 I considered more deserving"...it had to be "Derek Jeter isn't an HoF-level player" or spite.  Hey, I disliked Jeter, and particularly loathed New Yorkers' attitudes about him (a la Pats fans and Brady)...but the numbers and impact are there.
