Tech got a reaction from Duke Bushido in Selective Invis...
For a player character who wants to use their Invisibility selectively, I wouldn't charge anything: it's a roleplay of the power. IF that power use starts becoming really useful, then I might charge for it

On the other hand, a home-made villain was made that selectively does that to himself, and to heroes. Here's how it was made:
    Multipower
    u. Invisibility (he makes himself invisible)
    u. Drain vs Dex, AP - make parts of hero disappear, leaving them disoriented, not vs heroes with special sight
    u. Flash attk - Makes the environment temporarily invisible, affecting the eyes

Yeah, another ditto. The players design their characters with END in mind. Some characters are built so that they can only last a short while in combat.

Its a little off topic, but the built-in limitations on Healing feels more like a campaign thing than a rule thing.  As in, they're trying to front-load limitations on a power that should be campaign rules or part of the setting, not part of the base rules.  Its like saying you can only use RKA once a turn so people don't kill opponents as easily.  The rules should just present the power then suggest ways of controlling or limiting it, such as the "spells per day" D&D thing.  But that's kind of a side issue.

And now I feel like a soft touch again. I actually have grown fonder of Hobbits/Halflings as I've gone older (Though I've always liked Bilbo and Samwise long before any movies)

While Tolkien saw them as so close to humans as to be a branch of them IIRC, the vibe I got off Hobbits was that they had a touch of Hearth sprite to them. Maybe it's all the Took talk about fae relations.

Just speaking for myself- I have zero problems with them in Table top settings. They don't have the 'ancient race' angle, but have a built in underestimated underdog aspect that I like; be it pastoral rustic folk thrust into adventure, or opportunistic little guy trying to score in a big world. Sure, you can (And most do) the same with humans, but in some games Halfling is almost , if you pardon the pun, shorthand , for david in a setting of goliaths. Elves have their ancient magics and arrows, Dwarves craft weapons of legend and know how to use them. Halflings, at least most PC halflings, have moxie and the advantage that everyone, even other halflings and sometimes themselves, doesn't expect much from them.  While there is a large diversity of settings with them  (From Shire Dwellers, to Caravan nomads, to Freaking CANIBALS! (Thanks, Dark Sun)) , I think that's my basic mindset: Halfling = Underdog.

And because of that, I have a hard time not rooting for them.

    YMMV

I still play this but just not as much as I used to. Whether it's worth your time or not is something you'd have to decide. However, many people in CO have said it's got the best costume designer in any game, and I have to agree.  Upgrades? If you mean life-time, I'd suggest you try it first.

Tech got a reaction from BoloOfEarth in Printing battlemaps
Our campaign has 2 large and 1 smaller chessex battlemaps that serve us well for the most part. When I draw the map on the battlemap, usually I add something to keep the players surprised. For example, for a Champions game I created an area of the zoo where a white tiger was the target to be stolen by the bad guys. So, I added the giraffe area, hippo area, kobold cage... (yep, that last one got them.)

However, there are times when a colored picture of a battlemap is just so perfect and much better drawn that I can draw. In this case (for those who also print battlemap pictures off), do you print them off on paper, or use transparency film? Up to this point, I've used paper because it's cheaper but the transparency is so much longer lasting and clearer. Is there something better? So, what do you do?

Our campaign is heavily 4th with a alot of other stuff thrown in but almost no 6th edition. Got some 1st, 2nd, 3rd edition and considerable 5th.  I mean, a couple weeks ago, I ran a game where a villain with martial arts was still in 1st Edition martial arts and it didn't make one bit of difference for the game fun. So, yup, the systems can run together.

Assuming you decided exactly how the power would be created, would you actually use it in a game? From much experience, players hate having their character mind-controlled, or at least made useless with a single attack.

This is for you GMs to tell some of your mistakes made before or during a Champions game.

    1) I've written up a clever episode where the heroes eventually run into some robots to fight. It shouldn't be easy but not too powerful that they'll lose. Yes, everything looks good... except I forgot to stat out the robots!

    2) The game is going well, the heroes are beginning to get near to the mastermind's base and the players are really looking to stomp some goodness into the baddy except... the stat sheets for the minions AND the villain simply can't be found. "I had them a minute ago!"

    3) The heroes encounter an impressive villain for the first time and when I read out his speech, it goes flat. (thinking to self, "It sounded better on paper.")

Using Champions 2, I've written up statistics for several of our superteam bases. All of them have a minus to PER roll to recognize them naturally, among other things. I use the Mastermind Option for the team, with each hero giving points towards the 50 pts, then the team leader's total cost is used for how many points the base has. Trust me, 300 points for a base sounds like alot, but it can go so fast.

I use battlemaps when I want some visual to help out the players. Also, the players really enjoy moving their characters around on the color battlemaps. So, we use 1 hex = 2m

It's been a long time since I GM'd Terror, Inc. in a game. A thought came around to me: What is Prof Muerte's end goal? Okay, he's a terrorist and isn't nice. What is his final goal if everything went his way? Is he trying to take over the world, all the financial markets of the world or to get the ultimate lotion to deal with his, um, looks?  Pardon my ignorance if this has been shown somewhere but I'm not aware of it.

Tech reacted to Ninja-Bear in TK for Champions 3rd Ed.
    Hello all,

I have a quick and perhaps odd question. I was poking around 3rd Ed and it comes to Telekinesis. My reading of it seems that TK could not be used to “Punch” any one besides the listed prohibition of no squeezing the target. Am I reading that right? Or am I reading into it? Or has that always been a grey area of those edition rules.

    Anyways thanks in advance

The Hero System avoids absolutes; in this case not taking any damage from attacks. If you're going this route, I agree with LW: don't bother balancing the character. I personally wouldn't go with Desolid though, because Affects Desolid can affect him though. If he's got lots of defenses, Desolid isn't necessary.

Some time ago, someone came up with a couple charts where you could get 100% Damage Reduction for PD, ED, etc. You could go that route since you're going for an absolute effect, or you could just give the villain 100 PD, 100 ED, etc on Power Def, Mental Def, etc. Of course, if you're going to go with the villain not taking damage or balancing it, don't bother trying to justify it: just write down on the sheet: "Cannot be hurt" and leave it at that. You're the only one who's going to be looking at the sheet anyways, since you're the GM.

We celebrated the 40th anniversary this weekend. I had made medals for each player. I also made one special medal (which I kept) for all the bad character concepts that have ever been made. Do you realize that's 2080 weeks for so long a campaign? Also, my brother made a video for the players to watch before the Champions episode started. The video simply ended: "Now, let the game begin!".

It's hard for me to believe I'm saying this but come this June, our campaign will be 40 years old, along with the 40th Anniversary of the game Champions. It's actually mind-boggling to me, that any campaign could be that long. The campaign is older than my friend's marriage as well as some people in the campaign. I'm planning on buying some plastic award medals that you can put your own emblem inside of and giving them out in June. By the way, this is the same continuous campaign - never stopped or retconned. It's gone through changes over the decades and has seen players & characters come and go, but the core players are still playing some of the same characters that the campaign started with.

So along with saying it's been 40 years, I also want to say that it is the Champions game that is so durable and flexible that made this happen. My hat off to you, Hero Games and more specifically, to Champions.
