I wasn't sure whether to put this here, or in the Dark Champions forum. Then I thought, "Would it be cooler to fight a Mammoth, made by cutting-edge science, with up-to-the-minute weapons; or to fight one made by Weird Science™ with Webley's and a Tommy Gun (if you're lucky!)?" That's why this article is in the Pulp forum.

Here are the world's big, big fish. I'm sure you can think of something to do with them in your games.

http://www.springsharp.com/ I haven't fiddled with this any, but someone pointed it out on Space:1889 mailing list I'm on, and it looks pretty interesting. It lets you design realistic ships that could have been built between 1850 and 1950. No weird science options, but that should be easily fixed. Anyway, it looked interesting enough to toss out there as a heads-up for the gearheads.

Three Real World™ sites to send your archaeologist--or to use as inspiration for invented, similar (but more interesting ) sites. For biblically-oriented adventure: possibly the city of David and Goliath Among the traditional sorts of places for Pulp archaeological adventure, if it's not biblical, it's Roman.. {NB: this is a video. I have not seen it because my connection at home is dial-up. I have no idea how good or bad it is.} Not your typical adventure type of place, but OK if you want something a little different: Iron-Age fort in Wales Saving the best for last---cities in the depths of the Amazon Forest! (some more info on what made them poss…

OK, so it's not that interesting a critter, and has only been thought extinct for ~80 years, but still----if they were wrong about this being extinct, what else is still hanging around in the deep, foreboding jungles of Indonesia, Malaysia, etc.

Seems there's a nearly forgotten cavity in the Great Pyramid that may solve a mystery. Read, enjoy, then form Pulp plots around it.

A few interesting articles I've come across: Cache of ancient Celtic coins Puzzling burial, with gold & other artifacts Old Christian church in Damascus, dating to ~a century after the Muslim conquest Have fun weaving them into your campaign.

I like this site for the historical documents. Very cool and very inspiring for many many eras, but there are some cool depression era resources and a high school yearbook from a Japanese Internment Camp in 1944. http://content.cdlib.org/ark:/13030/kt138n984k/?order=2&brand=calisphere http://www.calisphere.universityofcalifornia.edu/

I saw this and couldn’t resist posting it… http://abduzeedo.com/15-cool-soviet-movie-posters And, unless you can read Russian, I wouldn’t worry about the captions or anything, just work it into your game… Boddie

I have started a steampulp campaign on HC and I thought some might be entertained by our adventures. The PCs are an eclectic airship crew in an alternate 1897 New England. They include a brash girl inventor, a fugitive circus contortionist, a grizzled Wild West show trick shooter, Wisconsin's answer to Sherlock Holmes, and a MILFy pilot/mechanic. Stay tuned, gentle listener.

I have a player in my champaign that is straight out of the Pulp era. Basically a Topper (Ghostlike) character in my Champions campaign. In getting to know the character better; I'd like to know what to look for in Pulp basics. You know, I'm not ready to purchase The Pulp book yet. I'm not really into the era, but would like to be prepared when questions start to arise. Also any advise you may want to add when using a Pulp type character in a Champions type game.

Hey there, armchair historians. In preparation of a campaign I am working on, I have to ask: Which leader do you think was most instrumental in defeating Germany? You know, besides Hitler.

I've always been a fan of The Avenger; at his wildest, he was one of those characters who stradled the line between "Action Hero" and "Superhero", and his contribution is often less well known than Doc's or The Shadow's. There are some new Avenger books coming out now; hope that some of my fellow Pulp Hero fans will be interested. If nothing else, they're guaranteed to be great inspiration for your pulp games. http://www.moonstonebooks.com/avenger.asp

Operation Paperclip (also Project Paperclip) was the code name for the O.S.S.U.S. Military rescue of scientists from Nazi Germany, during the terminus and aftermath of World War II. In 1945, the Joint Intelligence Objectives Agency was established with direct responsibility for effecting Operation Paperclip. This was primarily for bringing the rocket and synthetic fuels scientists to the US, but I can see many other interesting possibilities. the British had a group called T-Force that was in germany trying to protect various german projects from being looted and robbed etc, although later accounts put it closer to the fox watching the henhouse. we know the Nazi…

The ever classic pulp locale King Solomon's Mines. Pulp-tastic with our without Richard Chamberlain and Sharon Stone, the latter I get mixed up with Kathleen Turner from two other pulp style movies, Romancing The Stone and Jewel of the Nile. As a side note I had to Google and find out what BCE meant.

Okay, not sure if this should fall under Pulp or SciFi or Post Apocalyptic HERO, but I have been playing Bioshock recently. That is one amazingly fun game. Rarely have I seen such a balance of outright creepy and, at the same time, fun. Setting Bioshock is set in an undersea city by the name of Rapture. When I say city, I mean like modern skyscraper city at the bottom of the ocean. This is pulp physics at its finest. The game designers did a fantastic job of merging 1930's architectural styles with some features that appear more sophisticated. Sometimes, while wandering through Rapture, I could almost envision myself is some large city opera house or subway…

There was a story in my local newspaper today about a guy who bought and restored a 1932 Pitcairn PA-18 autogiro. The story, along with color photos, can be found at His magnificent flying machine. I think I'd give my left nut to ride in one of these things.

Happy Halloween, CoC themed adventure
by Guest Admiral C- 2 replies

This is an adventure I wrote at for someone on RPGnet. Even though a full adventure wasn't asked for I wanted to see if I could do it in the few ours I had. I say CoC themed because the ghouls and undead in this could be worked into non Mythos games. Let me know what you guys think and whether or not you can use it. Ironically any adventure I run for Halloween won't be set in the 20s/30s, which is why I posted it in the Pulp Hero forums.

I bought a CD called “181 Kenneth Robeson (Doc Savage) Stories (Ebook Cd)” from the seller E-Books Download on E-bay. It has all 181 books in original format. Most are the original two column format from the magazines, though a few are in single column. While I would prefer to have them as hardcopy, but $5.33 for all 181 can’t be passed up. I thought someone might be interested.
