Archaeologists take a while to get things published, so here's the scoop: analysis of residue in a cup found at the Chaco Canyon Peublo site in New Mexico (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaco_Canyon) has found chocolate. Archaeologists have long thought argued about the extent of "Mexicanism" at this site, actively occupied by the 'Anasazi,' between 950 and 1150AD. Now we know that they traded south for luxury goods such as cacao beans. http://gamblershouse.wordpress.com/2009/07/29/reevaluating-mexicanism-in-the-post-chocolate-era/ Which is, of course, why the lost city of the Jaguar People is hidden in the canyons of New Mexico. (The poor Eagle People, on the…

So I'm going to make an assumption. Since your interested in Pulp Hero at some point you've seen an old serial. As a result of this assumption I'm going to ask 3 questions. 1. Which was your favorite 2. Which serial villian would you most like to put in a pulp game 3. What evil plot was your favorite And remember no matter how many times they show the hero in the car going over the cliff, next week you'll learn he got out an hour earlier:)

WORLD OF KONG INTRODUCTION The World Of Kong: A Natural History Of Skull Island is an art book filled with design and concept work from the people at Weta Workshop for Peter Jackson's film King Kong. Presented as if Skull Island really existed, the book shows dozens of animals created for the Skull Island sequences, few of which actually appeared in the final film. Each creature has a name (usually given in Latin), a translation of its name, a general size listing, and a few paragraphs of descriptive text. Material perfect for adaptation into the game system of your choice! The character sheets presented here are my efforts to offer the denizens of Skull Islan…

Hello All, I don't know if anyone else has posted this (I did a search for Ada and Ada Lovelace and didn't get any results, but got a ton or results in non-pulp hero threads for 'Lovelace') but I thought you might like this tongue-in-cheek (but very well researched) take on Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage -- Pulp Crimefighters. It's by Sydney Padua. Click on the image to see the rest of the origin!

It seems that Dynamite Entertainment has been doing really well with their pulp characters. The Lone Ranger is a critically-acclaimed series and has gone past the one year mark; Zorro has also gone past the one year mark -- both are good reads and expand the normally very cursory treatment of their origins. I enjoyed the origin of the Lone Ranger -- very gritty and a strong western feel. I like the darkness of the character (particularly the bit about the bullet holes and the mask he wears). I like the pseudo-mystical elements brought about by Tonto and the the silver mine as well. Zorro has great historical depth and surprising elements -- the secret organizati…

Folks, as I was reading the Basic Rulebook, I stumbled upon what might be the ultimate pulp cover. It's on pg. 129 in black and white. Let's run it through the checklist: 1. Zeppelins. check 2. Zeppelins on fire, falling to a fiery death. check 3. WW2 fighter planes fighting. check 3. WW2 fighter planes on fire, falling to a fiery death. check 4. Cats, with rocket jetpacks. check and check 5. Nazis, with gasmasks. check and check 6. Apeman wearing vest and pocket watch standing on the top of a zeppelin shooting at Nazis. check and check and check and check 7. Woman setting dynamite charges on top of zeppelin. check Then, imagine my joy when I …

Hey Guys, I'm letting go of a minty, still in factory shrink-wrap box set of Justice, Inc., from the grand old year of 1984. I've still got my player's copy, but I've got to fund the holidays somehow! Find it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250537573212&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT Would love to see it stay in the Hero family. Auction ends Sunday. Thanks! cP

Out of Idle Boredom, and we all know how boredom tends to effect the thought processes, like most fans of any genre I'll often sit back and go, "Hmmm......I wonder who would win?" So, I compiled a few of these together, and decided to post them here in the various. The rules are simple. Pick your winner, then explain why, and or why not. Simple really. SO, to start things off, I offer up, the first batch of contestants. Contestant 1: The Shadow. Now do folks really ned the background of the Shadow? Well I suppose there is a SLIM chance out there that there is a pulp fan that doesn't really know WHO the Shadow is, or worse, only has the…

Awhile ago I found The Shadow radio dramas at my local library. While listening to them I read a little booklet that came with it wich talked about the history of the program and such. It also had a listing of each episode with a little "TV Guide" blurb about each episode. It came to me how these blurbs were perfect little plot hooks for a campaign. Some could be used as just side treks but others could be develpoped into full adventures by GMs with a little creativity. So, naturally I wrote them down. They have been sitting on my computer for almost a year now so I thought I would pull them out, dust them off, and post them here for your use. Note: When …

I'm working on a noirish Jewish pulp story set in Dec 1913. The story is occuring in Budapest. My ordinarily strong search-fu has failed me. I need info on Budapest's telephone exchanges. See, I told you it was obscure. I know the exchanges were established in 1893, that by 1913 they had 6,500 subscribers, and that they had an innovative pre-radio "telephone broadcast" you could call in and listen to. I don't have any information on the names/neighborhoods of the exchanges, or whether you called the operator with the exchange and number you wanted (like in the US) or just manually dialed. Will rep for answers.

Well it looks as if one of my favorite characters "Doc Savage" is making yet another comeback to the comic medium. DC will be chronicling his adventures, starting with a "Batman/Doc Savage" story real soon (next month I think) then continuing with an ongoing series featuring one of Pulp Fiction's greatest heros ! I'll be lining up for these comics I can tell you. I just hope that they last a bit longer than some previous attempts to translate "The Man Of Bronze" to the comic medium !
